Happy Birthday PIRL!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes Harper - you and Dawn too!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, onewish. I really did have a great day and the DG people added so much joy to it.

Now if I could only get Dawn to put the RCMP on the move a little faster and, Harper, I don't need you trying to lure them away with bribes of refreshments.... etc. You can have them when they're weary from being here.....deadheading, cutting back, staking, mowing, edging, digging, weeding and mulching...aside from turning the compost bins!

It's rough enough, at my age, trying to lure anything but wasps!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

and here they are, lined up awaiting pirl's instructions ;0)

pirl, sorry I'm late. hope you had an absolutely fabulous day! you must tell us all about it (starting with what you decided to have at the restaurant). you are right about 'Sundays don't count'. it's in the same category as 'cookie crumbs have no calories'.

Victor - I think it's 42. My family has a lot of bd's this time of year. I always buy a bunch of cards ahead of time and then try to remember which one goes to who. They are all mildly offensive so you can't go wrong.LOL

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

WONDERFUL! Lined up and ready to help me in the garden. Just the way I like them.

Funny, Al! I love buying cards ahead of time, too, but they sometimes sit here as the birthdays glide on by.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Al and Arlene, Leos are my favorites!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Libras are my favorites.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Get out! Really? No wonder we like each other so much! Hey, I think I'm coming out to LI the weekend of August 11. You doing anything? I think that's what Stephen said anyway... gotta double check. I'll have Sam with me.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Libras are my favorites, too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Brunettes are my favorite.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I think we knew that, Victor!

I'll Dmail you, Harper: looks great!

Yankee Cat: I can't recall a single Libran that I didn't like. Of course, my mom was one! So was the real PIRL.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Didn't we do the astro signs / Chinese calender signs already?? I am Capricorn & Tiger.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

For anyone who really puts any stock in astro signs, are you aware that you are not the sign you think you are?? It's off by one - my birthday, Jan 1st, really makes me a Sagittarius, not a Capricorn. The discrepancy is due to the 'wobble' of the earth's axis. When Astrology started, thousands of years ago, the orientation of the axis was different. As it changed, the correlation of the signs to birth dates was never revised. It will continue to shift over time of course.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I've been told, often, that I'm "off" so now I know it must mean my astrological sign. Thanks for cheering me up, Victor.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hmmm, never knew that Victor!

Thanks pirl and YC!

Pirl, I just got back on Sunday from 2 weeks away in Vt and Canada. I expected to find a lot of dead plants in my containers, but my watering gal did a good job and so I am sending you a picture bouquet with my belated best to you. Patti

Your color combinations are fabulous, as usual, Patti. Thanks for the greetings. You picked two great weeks to be away!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday!! (Belated)
So sorry I missed it. I hope you had a great day and you drag out the celebration as long as possible!

another Libra friend,
Dave

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's easy to see why I love Librans. Thank you, Dave. I did have a great day and loved the zucchini blossoms more than the chocolate mousse cake!

(Zone 4a)

Have the RCMP arrived yet? I think those darn mosquitos might be holding them back. You should see the size of them and now they attack in sworms!! Those poor riding rcmp. It should be too much longer now LOL

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Dawn, didn't you see the picture? pirl has them lined up and ready to work in the garden LOL

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

speaking of mosquito's we bought one of those propane mosquito traps this weeked. I LOVE it. We actually sat in the backyard at night without repellant on!!

(Zone 4a)

Hahaha grampapa yes I did see the picture...that cracked me up. I didn't realize they were already there?! I bet they are begging for mercy to be let go from pirl. They probably can't handle all the gardening chores she has for them hehehe!!!

dpoitras that is pretty cool. So are you saying you highly recommend those traps? Gosh those skeeters come at you with knives and forks here...they are just terrible!! After 7.30pm I am out of the garden otherwise they eat me alive....and I just HATE using repellent - I never use it.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Pirl! How did I miss your birthday? This bouquet is for you :-) (sorry, picture is slightly out of focus)

Best wishes for the upcoming year - you have been a good DG friend to me (and everyone else).

Dawn! RCMP attack in swarms?! I've been missing out so many years!

Dpoitras - I've never had the pleasure of even seeing one of them. Photo, please.

Thank you, Seandor. The flowers and greetings are so nice.

Loretta - Thank you for the beautiful rose. Pepi's is still our favorite, not the Frisky Oyster where we went Sunday night.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, I too would like to see a pic of ANYTHING that control mosquitos w/out controlling butterflies etc.

Bats.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Ugh!

We have bats that zoom about every evening. Just last week I caught the cats playing with one in the upstairs hallway. I fled down the stairs!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have bats flying around all the time but I still can't go outside for even a few seconds at dusk - I really get eaten alive. And I get welts.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Have you tryed wearing a cross or garlic?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, but then the Italians swarm.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

You are too funny, Victor :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Grazi.

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay here goes. And yes so far we aren't disappointed with the purchase. Picture is kind of dark. Can take a better one tomorrow if necessary. The packaging says it only attracts biting bugs. emits a scent, heat, and carbon dioxide, what biting bugs are attracted to.

I am definitely interested in how you like it over time. I have heard conflicting info on them.

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

Will let you know. A bit pricey but so far worth it. it has a sensor so it only runs at dusk and dawn. 4 hours at dus, and 3 hours at dawn. It also won't run if the temp drops to 55 or below

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

This is the second full season with the mosquito machine that we have. The best thing that we have ever tried. There is 80 acres of woods all around my yard with wet lands, bogs and large pond/lake.The mosquitoes would eat me alive early morning to noon on the east side of the house never mind waiting until evening. A cloudy day forget walking out there at all. I hate those nasty sprays too. This works with propane and really works great, even after only one day when it gets switched on there is a big difference. Like dpoitras says it just draws the females in by co2. A drastic reduction in the biting buggers.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Where did you guys place it on your property? I have read that it should be at a downwind location away from where you hang out. Isn't there also an attractant that has to be replaced regularly? How often do you empty it?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wouldn't it also attract good bees?
