DAILY PICTURES Vol. 15

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I was afraid my little Flycatchers had moved on, but I spotted one of them yesterday.

He's adorable! Great pic tiger!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Janet, marvelous woodpecker images - I wish I could see one, too!!

And, Tigerlily, that little face is the cutest thing ever - great photo!!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks folks. I wish the ones of him on the feeder had been clearer. Couldn't believe how crisp the one of him on top of the telephone pole turned out.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

No kidding, Janet! You could almost imagine him peeking over, wondering what you were doing!!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I have no idea why I am up so late tonight, but here I am working on last night's pictures. It's not the clearest of pictures, but it gives you the idea anyway. They were awfully cute - and that baby, as big as its mama, was wanting more more more!!

And this sweet hummer - had to laugh, though, when I downloaded the photos . . . I had probably 20 images of empty hummingbird feeders! Fast little buggers.

This Pine Siskin making me feel guilty because the fountain top was empty! (The fountain doesn't work - needs a major internal repair job to stop the water from leaking out.)

Ahhhhh . . . at last! (Almost looks like he's saying, "Mirror, mirror on the wall . . ."

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Thank you! It was a great evening for bird photos.

My Red Head was back this morning. :-)

Here's another shot of him

He'd fly off and the Red Bellied would fly in quickly to take his place.

While I was standing there taking photos, I saw a streak of red fly into the mimosa tree. It's going to seed right now and is not at it's prettiest. The cardinal was trying to dress it up a bit. :-)

Very nice pics!

Oh that Red Head is so handsome! Thanks for the great pics Janet!

All I saw today after work were hummers.

I know you have always enjoyed the Red Bellies Pelle. They are in abundance in my yard, both in the front and in the back. That Red Headed fella though, he's not a frequent visitor.

I haven't spent much time in the front yard until recently. I'm wondering if I just haven't been out there to see him. He seemed to be "familiar" with the trees around here. And I also noticed that he shares with other birds, whereas the Red Bellies usually scatter any other birds off the feeders. They do wait their turn, but then they seem to get impatient.

I wish the Red Head would use the feeder just outside of my office window. I could set up the tripod and take some better close ups. Maybe I'll take the other feeder down so they have to use that one. Oh Man, I love being sneaky! HAHAHAHA

Nice pic of your young fellow chisolm!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Wow, Janet - superb photography!!!!

And, fchisolm, delightful hummer!

Marlton, NJ

Well I'm really being completely over run hear with the House Finch so I've decided to let some of the feeders go empty in hope they will disperse a bit. They are emptying the feeders at an alarming rate.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

There's a lot here, too, Pelle, but also tons of Goldfinch, Grosbeaks, Towhees, Pine Siskins, Song Sparrows, Chickadees (both Black Capped and Chestnut Backed), Hairy & Downey Woodpeckers, Flickers, and a variety of other sparrows. We don't have Steller Jays right now because I'm not putting peanuts out because of the darn crows. They are everywhere at this time.

Marlton, NJ

Well, I'm leaving 3 nyger feeders out with seed so I don't lose the 4 Goldfinch that are coming around and I'll also leave up the peanut silo and the no no feeder that just has BOSS in it. But I'm definitely taking down the 2 other feeders that have a mix of safflower and boss. They emptied a fully loaded Squirrel Buster feeder in 1 day, it shouldn't go that fast in summer.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

I took me a few minutes to figure out "boss". I thought I missed some new type of seed! (black oil sunflower seed, right?) Tee hee :)

Marlton, NJ

Yes thats right- sorry Grandmaggie. :-)

today my dee dee posed for a pic.

After it cooled off late in the day the usual ground feeders stopped by.

Oh I love the Dee Dee pic! Great job!

I'm going to take down the Boss feeder now. I'm still being over run w/ House Finch.

The Chickadees are only coming around just before dark since before then it's all House Finch covering the feeder. (Fingers crossed)

fchisolm, are those Collared Doves? I have one around here, but the ones in your pic look darker. Mine is almost white.

~Kris

edited to say - oops, I just saw on another post that they are Collared Doves. Sorry to jump the gun.

I caught a Goldfinch eating zinnia seeds.

Nice pic al! Did you grow them from seed? I've got to get some zinnias, our local nursery stopped selling them last year due to complaints about mold but I had never had that problem.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I've had company for past three days, my youngest son, wife and oldest daughter from the coast were here. Had a wonderful visit. When we were coming home yesterday from a quick sightseeing trip we saw this Great Horned Owl sitting on my fence. So as soon as i could park the car, we tried to take pictures. I was surprised that it sat there for quite a while, altho we could not get close. Here is what i got using my telephoto. He is a very large bird and was very interested in the small birds in the crabapple trees.

LOL, Oh I'll bet he is interested in them. Nice pic Ruth!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Yes I start my zinnias from seed - late May or so, they flower by mid July. Bees and butterflies like them too.

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

bigcityal, a great shot of the Goldfinch. You couldn't have ranged the colors better if you tried.
Our weather is too cold here for Zinnias. I've tried a couple of times. If they survive, they don't amount to much.
I don't have any Goldfinch, but do have yellow Arnica, which looks nice with the blue of my friendly Steller's Jay.
