September 8 Plant Swap: Plant trades thread

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Sorry ... it's the Codeine's fault.

Poor John Candy, he still doesn't get the Ladies.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sensitive Fern would be wonderful -- thanks, Chantell!

Does anybody know if deer eat Sensitive Fern? If they might, then I'll tuck it into the front foundation bed at my folks', where it's at least a little protected and out of their way.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Chantell, you may have more actual Sensitive fern than me at this point. Mine is reeling from the effects of having an oil tank moved on top of them then "D" H re- setting some pavers there too. I think there will be a lot next spring from hidden roots but right now ???
Anybody that had a clump of Sens Fern this year will have a Patch of it next~~~
The Ostrich fern will probably put out one or a couple sideshoots with small sprouts.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I hope you're right about the Patch O Fernage. I really need to fill in my bare spots.

And as for the oil tank and pavers ... that is an example of when it is okay to refer to the *alternative* meaning for DH, imo. Heh Heh.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

being- a husband that holds back water?.......

Checked my fern area- it's really pitiful, sorry.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL - I'll bring what I can...I believe the DS used the weed wacker on some...ugh! At least it wasn't my Passifloras!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Don't decimate your fern patch on my account! The vinca will keep me plenty busy planting in my folks' yard!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ah no worries....heck, I'm thinkin' - I can knock on the neighbor's doors as well...I know they both have some as well. :) Not nosy...just had 1/2 my Plumie land in the one neighbor's yard.

Crozet, VA

While out front this morning I saw that I have an enormous amount of Lambs Ear if anyone would like me to mail them a few starts of it. Any takers?

Ruby

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Alrighty folks - PLEASE let me know if you want anything from my list: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3786192 I really only want to bring items that someone definately wants to eliminate loading and unloading - then again. So...please speak by tonight.
I also have some smaller agaves and possibly some misc Cacti (non-hardy)....

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Ruby, I would be happy to take some off of your hands-as much as convenient for you and others. My address is in the exchange. What shall I send you in return? Postage, $, seeds? You name it.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm not bringing any plants to speak of -- just too much going on -- but I can bring some Begonia Grandis if anyone wants some.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, Happy, you are the flower that everyone wants to see anyway.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh oh, time to pull on my hip boots.

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm glad your not stressing over bringing plants. I wan't to meet the relaxed Happy this time!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

me too!

Chantell, if your obedient plant is purple, I've got a big clump of it here (blooming now, and the bees are adoring it), and I'd be happy for people to dig from it if they want some. I'd love a cutting of your Maypop and Incense passies. And how can I resist something called Pig's Ear??! :-) You're more than welcome to take cuttings from the succulents I've got underplanting the citrus trees in big pots (on the back patio)... you probably know much more about them than I do, so I'll let you do the honors please!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I've added them to the "bring" list. Not sure I know more about anything then you...remember, you're gonna be my winter sowing Guru!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'll help with your WSing if you'll help me prune my succulents! :-)

BTW, I've got "ordinary" milkweed seeds drying on the buffet (pale white/cream blooms, nothing extraordinary but the flutterbyes love it), and if you can find seedlings back there you're welcome to them. I've also got Agastache 'Honey Bee Blue' and 'Honey Bee White' -- seeds are from last year, but there are bound to be more, might even be some ready now. I've also got some orange tropical milkweed that a friend WS'd this year... not sure if the plants will overwinter (maybe dug and stored in the basement), but you (and Gita, who also wanted some I think) are welcome to try.

I'll put together a Wintersowing packet for you (& anyone else who wants some) when I've got my seeds sorted out...

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Mercy...I'd just be excited if I knew what a Milkweed looked like. Everyone talks about them..sure I've seen them BUT certainly I didn't know what it was...LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think mine are A. incarnata rather than A. syriacus, although I admit I haven't made a concerted effort to ID them... see http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/539/

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I have syriaca. Jill , I'll ID for you. Incarnata looks showier. Flowers more upward, leaves much narrower.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Sally! We'll have to be sure to make our way back to the "butterfly garden" and take a look! The monarchs are out in force this week. There was one nectaring on the garlic chives in front all day today (speaking of which, I've got plenty of garlic chives if anybody wants some... and oregano... and thyme... and mint, of course!).

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OK! Last minute wants------

Happy--I would like a couple more Bagonia Grandis. The two I got from you are doing well and blooming on their single stem.

Chantell--I would like a couple more of your Obedient plant. I have only two, single stem ones growing. I stepped on one and broke it off at the base.

Critter--I would like some of your Garlic Chives.

Question: Are we bringing seeds or is that for the mid-winter Swap?
I have a bunch.

Thanks, Gita

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Happy swapping everyone :)
I wish I were closer and could go too...maybe another time if you do it again...have fun!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

You're welcome to bring seeds. We can spread them out in the living room for swapping purposes (they won't blow around there). I'm not sure if I'll take the time to try to sort through my stash during the swap, but I'll be happy to look afterwards for anything that's on somebody's wish list.

Gita, you and I will take a stroll around the yard with a shovel, and I'll dig anything you'd like! At this point, I'm not sure I can promise to do any potting up before people arrive, but I think it'll be a pretty relaxed day, and we'll have plenty of opportunity to raid the garden. You can't miss the garlic chives, as they are in bloom along the front walk. Every one that's on the street side of the walk can go home with somebody -- please! LOL, those are all volunteers because I'm not good about deadheading them.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Ok gang - I am now as ready as I can be - got all my mixers for frozen concoctions - my "door prize" and a little something, something for our hostess!

Oh and, I hereby officially offer to host a mid-winter get together if anyone wants to have one and don't mind driving to Woodbridge :-) I most certainly do not have the biggest place - but, my door is always open :-)

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hummus - Done
Chicken Salad - Done
Cheesecake Pecan Bars - In the oven
Plants - What plants?

Bec, when's your's? I'll start cooking now. Seems if I don't have dirt under my nails I've got pie crust or some other food there (not at the same time for those who might worry).

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I have no idea when mine will be - I figured we'd collectively decide when - cause I am selfish and want EVERYONE to be able to make it :-) Logistically that might be impossible - but, you can't blame a gal for wishing!

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Cheesecake Pecan Bars - Done

Now I can concentrate on drinking my wine.

Not that I wasn't drinking it while I was cooking, but now I can give it my full attention :-)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Hmm. Checking calendar to see if I have anything planned for tomorrow. OMG, the swap. Egads! Better see if I promised to bring anything. (Sound of scurrying.)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Ooh, those sound so good!

I got everything set up for the food (as much as I could think of, anyway), but I'll do the actual mixing of dips and making of cocoa krispie treats in the morning. I got out the warming tray and a couple of microwavable warming pads, so that should take care of Gita's Mmmeatballs and Elf's crab balls.

Lemonade (with slices of key limes added) is in the fridge, and some assorted soft drinks are in the little fridge in the morning room. I brought up the blender and the smoothie maker... I think we'll set up the bar area on the counter to the left of the sink.

Let's see... probably ranch dip and bacon dip (although I can do onion or Knorr's veggie dip if anyone prefers) for the veggies, bruschetta and chavre-pepper spread for the bread, cream cheese with pepper jam and Krab spread for the crackers, cucumber pickles and pickled peppers, and the cocoa krispie treats... I think that's all that I have planned, and if we run short (as if!) I've got chips & salsa and cheese & crackers on standby!

LOL, I just realized I'm typing all this on the Plant Swap thread...

"Plants? What plants??"

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hey, Happy -- did you ever turn up those nametags? Actually, I wonder if we even need them since we're not such a large group... I do have Priority Mail labels that would probably work, LOL!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I have them somewhere. Have to remember to add them to my list of stuff to bring . . . .

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Remember, the most important thing to bring is YOU... anything else is just a bonus at this gathering!

(BTW, please remember that you've got a couple of cases of water in our garage that need to go home with you!)

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I know everybody except Lastelf. So I think I can figure out who she is :)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Hey Becky...Woodbridge is a bit far for me...but I'll try to make it...ROTFLOL...seriously going to bed NOW!!!
Critter - Ummm re the sensitive fern...he didn't wack "some" he wacked ALL...I'm so sorry.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

No problem... the sensitive fern was an afterthought... I do have a little division of it yet from this spring that I'll take to Mom, and as I said I think all that vinca will keep me quite busy planting up in Pittsburgh!

Crozet, VA

Okay Wrightie - Gonna go out shortly and get some things to pack up for you. A reimbursement for postage is fine. At the moment there is not a thing that I can think of that I need. So, check you mail later in the week. These will go out early on Monday morning.

Wind.......I will be in Mt. Laurel on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Can I offer to bring you a box full while I am at it? I am already getting a box ready for my niece. Remember, I have loads of this stuff.

I can't wait to begin reading how the day went yesterday at the swap. I got a bit side tracked and didn't remember to come on here and see if anyone was updating or giving an hour by hour, play by play. I hope that everyone had as much fun as we did at Hart's.

Ruby

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

If anybody saw anything they wanted at my place and didn't get... it's your own fault! LOL, no, seriously, just let me know and I'll make a note.
