LOL... great photo!
Ficus trees are like that... they'll drop their leaves at the slightest excuse, but likely as not they'll leaf right out again like nothing was ever wrong!
September 8 Plant Swap: Plant trades thread
Isaak, if I told you once I told you a thousand times, post under your own name! Geez, you all with dogs don't know how easy you got it.
I didn't know there were computer geek cats. Is he trying to chase the mouse pad???? Maybe he can get a job at Best Buy for the Geek Squad as a mascott.
plants? what plants?
Sally--
You are toooooooooo funny!!!!! That's what I like about you. A really great sense of humor.
I agree! This thing will be all about food and Holly's mixed drinks.
Plants????------WHAT plants??? Haaaaa...Haaaa.......
Drooling already......................:O/ ,,,,
Gita
Those photos are way too cute! miatablu, what a great pic - just the reason why I need a new "pocket" camera so I can catch all those photos I always miss because I have to run for the camera! Used to have a big ole Coon Cat who climbed ladders - made a nervous wreck out of me LOL
critter, what is it about cats and computers? It's either on the keyboard or on the shelf directly above the computer - when it's dark in the morning and the tail slowly drops down over my screen - yikes! gotta love em though :) Mid winter tea party sounds great!!
Time out for plant talk. Sally, I just noticed that you listed your new Black Runner EE babies. If no one has claimed one yet, I'd like to have one. Went to my Lowes last night and they had a bunch but haven't marked them down. They still wanted 21 bucks for them. OK, now back to the important stuff!
Thanks Debbie, my camera just broke (yay, it was so old) so I'm waiting impatiently (booo) for the new one I ordered to be released, a new compact Sony with a 3.5" touch display, sweeeet!
Oh, I'm looking forward to checking out your new camera! That display sounds like something to drool over (don't worry, I won't literally slobber on your camera).
If anyone need a replacement or extras of something they got from me this spring, I'm likely to have it "out there." Let me know, and I'll try to dig it up by Saturday morning.
I was doing a little weeding (it's really a jungle out there because it got away from me while I was dealing with migraines)... I noticed that I have a lot of little wild cherry seedlings, if anybody is interested. If we scout around, we might even be able to find a 1 or 2 year old sapling, LOL.
While I'm on the subject of trees... there are probably some little saplings in the tree line, too, that could be dug if you want them (wild cherry, mulberry, and sassafrass are the main possibilities)... HOWEVER, please beware... don't just wander back into the fence row of trees at the back of the yard, because there is a lot of poison ivy back there.
Since I don't expect to be messing around in the kitchen on Saturday, I figure I'll have enough time to run around with everybody to find whatever plants they'd like (either dig divisions, take cuttings, etc.). If you want to pot up things to take home, please bring some extra pots... I have half a yard of container mix, so we can pot on the spot. :-)
Critter - I can bring you some vinca - don't forget I also have whatever that ground cover was that we did the trade for.
Oh yes! Is it doing well enough to share? I do have one pot of Mazus that made it through the summer (at least I think it that's what is in the pot, LOL) -- I think it came from Happy.
I appreciate the vinca!! I've got some Berlandiera seedlings (the "real" chocolate daisy)... I know you like flowers for cutting and fragrance, so remind me to send one home with you!
I've updated my list (as if anyone's really interested in actual plants) :-) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3918967
Jill, camera won't be released till Sept 24 so I won't have it at the swap dang-it. I pre-ordered middle of August. I'm not use to waiting this long for anything (stomping feet and whining). When I finally get it to show to you, I'll bring some wipes. http://www.e-fotografija.si/templates/?a=1044&z=94
I have a TON of mazus, if anyone wants some.
I can always use more groundcovers! I want to add the mazus to the bed that runs along my neighbor's fence... I think it'll go well between the peonies and the shorter iris there. I'll be planting creeping thymes along the very front of that border.
Happy, the sweet woodruff and the ajuga you gave me this spring are going in the daylily & daffodil bed in the back... thank you!
Does anyone want any Epis? Having been as busy as I have been the last months I have no other plants to bring, no time for digging, barely had time to water - and I need to find good homes for a few of them
I don't even know what an epi is, but I'm in the same boat as Bec.
Hmmm...Happy, I could use more - only IF you have time though...it's not life or death..ya know? LOL
Yes Critter...it's thriving in spite of me, so I'll bring you your's. :) LOL Even set aside a container for it - amazed my own self.
Ok, epis are going south!
You just need to post a link to a PF photo of a blooming epi! I've got a couple of starts on my windowsill, so I'm still at the "trying to figure out if I can grow them" stage. I'm already looking forward to throwing an all night celebration when my "Queen of the Night" blooms!
Jill,
I just finished digging up ALL my Vinca ground cover for you! Believe me--You will NOT want any more!!!! I have 2 big boxes full--packed! They are in soil, as best I could, so if you give them a sprinkle now and then, they should last for a few weeks. There are TONS of them!
Miatablu,
I have so many baby "Pregnant Onion" bulbs I am bringing--all in little pots. Some rooted, some not yet. You do not need to bring yours.
I am curious--just how big has yours grown since the Spring Swap???
My original divisions have grown as huge ass when I divided them all. They grow quickly! I took some of the itsy bitsy bulbs to the lady that runs the Roadside Veggie stand last Spring, and hers are the size of small plums already.
Happy,
An Epi is an Epiphylum. They are in the Orchid Cactus family. Go tot hat Forum and you will see and read all about them.
OK! Gotta go get ready for work.
Gita
Speaking of parties ... are you growing Evening Primrose? I cannot say enough wonderful things about the show that it puts on at dusk during the summer. The whole plant comes alive as the blooms open in the blink of an eye. I spent many an evening with DH, friends, and vino at our own Evening Primrose Parties. Fun Fun Fun.
OK Gita. I'll leave the pregnant onions at home. One less thing to bring. Don't know what I'm going to do with them now. Wait, I got it! The girls in italian class get a little gift tomorrow evening :)
Wrightie, have your evening primroses tried to take over your little corner of the universe? I've been debating whether or not to sow some seeds... I'd love to add a few patches of them, but I don't want them to become the dominant plant out there. Then again, the "dominant plant" in the little orchard area right now is Johnson Grass, and almost anythinng (except thistles!) would be better than that!
Nope, but it's only been in the ground for two seasons. I like it so much that I bought another plant from FSG this Spring and stuck it out back. That one is taking its sweet time ... but then again, that is the story of 2007 for me. Worst gardening year ever - due to both man-made and Mother Nature-made events.
Gita... THANK YOU just doesn't seem sufficient! You can pretty much ask for anything you see in my garden or containers... if I have more than one, I'll dig it on the spot!
Does anybody want a spider plant in a hanging basket? It's a green one, and it probably needs up-potting, but it has a lot of spiders!
Chantell: Is it mazus you want? Just checking. If there is something else, let me know.
happy - yes, that was the name of it...couldn't remember until critter posted about it. It seems to be making a nice ground cover...can't wait to see those pretty little blooms next year.
Anybody want Egyptian Walking onion? The bulbils from mine are "walking" their way across my iris bed, and I just pulled up a few clusters that were trying to root in the strawberry border.
Jill: Do you eat the Walking Onion?
Chantell: The mazus makes a tight ground cover, but be forewarned, I had hoped for a carpet of blue this spring, but it died back to the root in most places and so was sparse when it should have been blooming. It filled in, but a little late for my taste. I'm hoping for better luck this year.
Happy, I haven't eaten mine yet because I want my patch to increase... but yes, according to the PF notes, people eat both the top offsets and the base bulbs, as well as the new green shoots.
miatablu- I sure do want to give you a EE Runner baby. You gave me several things this spring and I don't remember giving you anything.
Want more/ some of my Sensitive fern or Ostrich fern?
I would like one of the NoID DLs~~or one of your other items, if they're claimed.
Sally, no one's claimed any DLs yet, so at least one is yours now, or more if you want. And I did get a sensitive fern from you last swap and it's doing very well. I think of you each time I see it :-) Everything I got from everyone is doing well and reminds me of them. If you have more sensitive and ostrich ferns I'll take some. I can always use more because mine don't seem to spread like other peoples do, but don't thin yours out just for me.
Same here... if you're trying to cut them back, I can use another fern or two for my mom, but don't thin them on my account. (You gave me a lovely big sensitive fern that I brought down to NC for my MIL, and I'll bet it's doing great since it's on her new irrigation system!)
I have Sensitive Ferns - if you want...I'll dig.
Oh, Chantell! THERE YOU ARE!
OMG - I was lost and didn't know it...
and I think that you ~still~ don't know it.
"I once was-as lost but now am found...." Hmmm....anyone know of a single park ranger with a nice smile? I ask so little.
