September 8 Plant Swap: Plant trades thread
Susan, I'm sorry too.
Susan - I keep forgetting...how far south of me are you?
I'm sorry you won't be there too!
hart - you did notice Gita has sea oats started in pots already? you may not need to dig yours up.
Chantell- I will try to dig up some milkweed for you. All it has for roots is a thick rhizome so not sure how it will like being put in a bucket. If not then have seeds too. Also seedlings from anise hyssop of three years ago.
Gita- you might want to come earlier to tour the yard, see what I can give you, transfer stuff to my van. So , ten or later is fine.
Jill- your address would be fine, I can mapquest the directions. (but you are probably about to dmail directions all around anyway.) Are you loaded with green peppers or cukes or zucchini by the way? I plan to buy those for dipping, and carrots.. ..and ? Assuming everybody has had their fill of cherry tomatoes by now, except me.
I never have my fill of tomatoes!
Shall I bring just wine, or jazz it up and bring sangria? Or mojitos ?
ALL THREE. DUH.
(KIDDING - don't get stressed out)
Who me? Stress?
I hope that we'll be able to roll me into the back of your station wagon so that I can help you carry all of that drinkage... PlantsShmantz.
No worries; I plan on just hooking you up to a straw.
Oh Happy Day!
OK, I will take the responsibility for "cutlery" again if you want me to (let me know about how many) - all I have in the plant department are some epis if anyone wants them - will also hit Costco on Friday for appetizers - I have a busy week ahead of me so any cooking is out of the question -
Hi,
Chantell it is over 4 hours to my house from your... You live at one end of Va and I live at the other... Thanks.. I think I knew what ya were thinking but would never expect that of anyone....
I will missyou all.. I am sure there will be another and the next time unless Good Year is ready to blow up they better not take my husband... :-)
Hugs,
Susan
I started responding here, then realized this is the plant thread... Sally & Becky, please see the food thread... I'm not trying to be picky, just trying to make sure I don't miss something!
:-)
Hi Everyone - I am sure gonna miss all you great folks this weekend. I will be there in spirit though.
I loved Critter's idea about doing a mid-winter seed exchange or something such as that. I hope that this group will continue to plan get togethers and I really hope that the next time suits me better than this.
I am going to list what I have to offer and see if there are any takers. I will be glad to mail any that any of you say that you want. I have forgotten how to make letters bold, so I hope that you all can read this okay.
OFFERING:
Sedum Autumn Joy
Pink Peonies
Artemesia
Castor Bean Seed
Rose Campion Seed
Red Celosia Seed
I may come back through here and read others offerings again and see if there is anything that I would like to have from some of you and am hoping that you and I can either trade, or ship for postage cost, or whatever. I do NOT need to be reimbursed for postage on any that I send out.
You all have fun and I will be participating the same way that Susan51 plans to. So, every hour or so someone needs to find the computer and report how things are going with the get together. I am going to miss the food as much as the plants. ha-ha
Have a great time All.
Ruby
Does anyone want any Forget-me-nots "Victoria Blue"? I'll only dig some up and bring them someones wants some.
Really gonna miss you Susan and Ruby (and your hubbies too!) Too bad we can't set up a webcam. But we'll check in.
Bobbie: If you have any extra forget-me-nots, and only if you have a moment, I'd love some. No worries either way.
Ruby- we'll miss both you and John. I hope you are having the same beautiful(although too dry still) weather we are getting in central Mayland!
Happy, Xtra? Do I have Xtra? These things seed all over the place! I love them though, lots of spring pretty spring color. I've been weeding, cutting back, and marking what's died back so I won't accidently plant something there next year before it comes back in the spring. I'm back out to the garden now so no problem digging some up while I'm there.
I think I might have a few NOID Hemerocallis day lilies I'll pot up too. http://davesgarden.com/tools/journal/showimage.php?eid=138701 They'll be small side shoots, but I guess they'll be OK.
I had forget-me-nots for years, started from 3 plants I bought that re-seeded and re-seeded until I had a wonderful colony. They one year they all disappeared, never to be seen again. I'll never know why.
I gave away loads of forget-me-nots this Spring. I may have another kzillion to part with next year as well, if the trend continues, so check with me then if you're in the market.
Thank you!!!
I'd be thrilled even w/some Forget-me-not seeds if that's easier.
Hmmm... I don't think that I have any more seeds, but I'll check and let you know, Chantell. I'm happy to send them to you if I find some.
Chantell, I made up four pots of forget-me-nots. If no one else is interested, you and Happy can split them. I also have seeds I can bring, Victoria Blue, and Victoria Pink. You're welcome to them.
If anybody has a female winterberry holly, could I get cuttings to try and root? I bought a male but need female. Or I could ask the nursery guy if I could exchange for something else. Its sort of attractive and will flower but I want berries too.
Ya'll are great, thank you!!! Now would someone please give my orphaned Ficus a home!1 :)
Benjamina? My house is useless for indoor plants. Too dark and drafty. *sigh*
Oh yeah, Sally. We are having beautiful weather here in Central Virginia also. Three days in a row that I didn't have to turn the air conditioner on. I love that.
For anyone wanting Forget Me Nots, I have loads of the blue/purple ones too. I regard them as weeds in my garden because I have so many. So, I can either mail the actual plants or wait until next Spring for another swap.
This is so exciting, even if I am not going to attend. ha-ha Ya'll keep talking.
Ruby
I've been following along since the "beginning", thinking maybe I could try to squeeze this into my schedule but not gonna happen :( Missed June and now September - maybe next year?? I'm sure everyone will have a great time - I'll be thinking about you! :))
Debbie
We'll miss you, Debbie!
Oh, sorry Debbie! I think we do need that midwinter tea party I've been talking about... I'll see about finding a date after the holidays. :-)
Chantell, I've got a ficus already, so I don't think I can help... but they're wonderful plants! Why is yours orphaned? :-)
Oh, I am so jealous!
Now how did your cat climb the ladder?
No, but he strung the lights himself.
Ah come on...it's screaming I NEED a younger sibling... Truth be known...it gave all appearances of being D-E-A-D. I bought something else to put where it was....dumped him into the yard as I needed his pot. Now he's growing...w/green leaves all over him....ugh!
Well, I was going to offer to take it, but I'm actually looking for a female, so .... sorry, and good luck finding him a new home.
