Pretty weed or ugly flower?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

These are growing and spreading all over my front yard. This is the first time I saw a flower on it. I think it's kind of pretty but as much as it spreads, I think it must be a weed. Anybody recognize this plant?

Looks like a mallow, many of them are weeds. Not sure what kinds your zone has.

Yes I am glad you called it that because that is what we call them too......great in the compost ;)

I checked for you and it is a mallow ...while I checked I found that not only is it a herb but it was (the roots ) used to make the first original "marshmallows"......it is used in herbal medicines...so weed or prize your choice! myself ...if you like them then they are a prize

Yeah keep it. I used to pluck out every single weed, then when I researched them I found a lot of good uses. For example my Guinea Pig loves dandelions and crab grass. Wormwood and Mugwort keep away bugs. You are lucky to have that mallow.

That is Common Mallow, and you can't kill it with Round-Up or anything else sorry to tell you! I have researched it like mad to try and fine something to kill it out of my lawn! It is taking over in the back really bad!! REALLY BAD!

I am really, really sorry you have gotten it! It is so much worse then Field Bindweed!

I posted a question about this in another spot I will post the link to this one. It has what info I found about it there. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/729443/

Also this is what the Texas A&M Extension office here in town told me!

Herbicides that are labeled for control of mallow in turf are as follows;

Dismiss Turf Herbicide (FMC)
Quicksilver (FMC)
Shutout (Helena)

Hope that helps!
