Canna Seed question

When starting cannas from seed, does it matter which end or where on the seed you nick it to start germination. Also, once it germinates and the little "nub" appears, does the nub get placed in the growing medium up or down, or does it matter? Canna newbie! Thanks for your expertise!

i have only grown canna from bulbs--didn't know you could grown from seed--when you grow them from bulbs they multiply like crazy sending out new bulbs under the ground --they are very easy to grow and almost can't kill them!!
