need hot pepper wax recipe

Kernville, CA

Does anyone have the recipe to make hot pepper wax to spray as an insecticide? I would like to make it rather than spend $40.00 a year to buy it. Thanks Ann

Tig, I have the recipe for a hot bug brew that has hot green peppers in it, but it's not really a wax.

It is made up of 3 hot green peppers, 3 cloves of garlic, 1 small onion, 1 tbsp liquid dish soap, and 3 cups of water. Puree the peppers, onion and garlic, pour into a jar with dish soap and water. Let stand 24 hours and then strain out the pulp. Use a hand held sprayer to spray bug infested areas, soak tops and undersides of leaves.

Is there a particular bug you want to get rid of?

Hi fly_girl,

Thanks for the recipe. I am trying to get rid of an aphid infestation on cucumber, watermelon, squash. If you have any ideas, I am glad to hear them.

Ann, you could try the above elixir, I bet it would work and it's safe ingredients for veggies.

If you have them really bad, you may already have some ladybug larvae working on them.

Sorry I don't have any other solution......my milkweed gets aphids and I just put a glove on and squish away, or spray a water and dish soap solution, so far that has worked.

Hi fly_girl, I put dawn soap with powdered cayenne pepper, then poured it on the soil and drenched the remaining leaves that were still viable. I learned that I had a big problem, because 10 days prior I had cut 60% of the leaves off, because of infestation. And they came back in just as big numbers. Flea beetles are starting to take over now. I learned that they are coming from the soil. I do organic gardening. I'm going to have to get some organic soap, so I don't kill the microbes I add to my soil. Ann

That sounds like a good plan of attack.
I try to use the least poisonous method too and sometimes it seems the bugs are just laughing at me.

Keep at it Ann!
