I have a ton of weeds in my lawn like some people already know. I read some threads and had some others advise me to use Preen to prevent weeds from germinating. I noticed on the Preen bottle say do not use it on grassy areas.. Does that mean it will kill the grass too? I want to use it in the spring to kill the weeds before the grass fills in...
Help... I need advice on Preen useage...
What exactly is the name of the Preen product that you have? There is one that's designed for use in lawns so that's the one you would want to get. The ones designed for flowerbeds probably have stuff in them that could hurt grass since grass in a flowerbed is undesirable.
It's Ecrane3 to the rescue... :) I looked in Lowes and that looks like the only one they carried.. I'll ask about the lawn version of Preen then... Thanks.
I don't know how widely available it is, I just looked on their website and saw that there were several different "flavors" of Preen. There are other brands of pre-emergent herbicides that you can buy for lawns too so if you can't find Preen you might try a different brand. My guess is they're more widely available in the springtime since that's when a lot of the annual lawn weeds are going to be germinating.

If you're trying to get rid of weeds that are already there, Preen's not the right stuff anyway, it will keep weed seeds from germinating, so you apply it in the spring and then the weeds never grow (at least the annual sorts). You should probably look for a regular herbicide for lawns, again make sure you get one that's specifically for lawns or else you could wind up killing your grass with it. Those sorts of products should be available at this time of year.
We've tried Roundup and Spectracide.. Killed most except for a few determined varieties.. I think that these are annual weeds though. So, I was just try to get some Preen ahead of time..
