What's Blooming?? # 6

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Southern Maine, on the coast. Cute town, lots of painters (not me), the Maine coast, marginal way. Not as busy or crowded as the Cape but still some commercial stuff nearby for the kids.

I like having a familiar place to return to and I like seeing new places. Maybe summer for familiar and new for winter would be ideal.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

If the Winter place is warm.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Couple of Unknowns that bloomed today.

I LOVE the color and big fat face on this one. Even if it has no name, she can stay *lol*

Can you believe that Wikapedia already has a synopis for each chapter of the last Harry Potter book? and no, I did not peak . . . so I don't know how the book starts or ends.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I just read it - I'm not a fanatic like you people. Okay, who does not want to know and what plants do you have to buy my silence?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I've been camping again this weekend. The weather was beautiful and no Colin this time (got lots of R&R). I just quickly looked through all of the blooms and they are beautiful. I returned home to coneflowers blooming in garden #3 and a butterfly enjoying them even more than I did. Eleanor

I haven't read the book yet but I'm going to read the snyopsis. After reading a couple of chapters in any book, I always go and read the ending cause I can't wait to find out what happened!! It doesn't ruin the book for me as I like to know how they got to that point!! Eleanor

thanks for the great shots all

Beautiful pics from everyone. All those gorgeous lilies. This is crocosmia 'Distant Planet'. It is in a new bed and a new plant for me. Just starting to bloom, but I think it is a keeper.

Phlox also starting up here. Can anyone ID this one for me?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

ngam, are they easy to grow? I haven't tried them as I thought they wouldn't survive our winters.

The phlox..if I had to guess I would say it's "Laura".

Thanks for the ID on phlox, I suspected that might be it. The crocosmia is supposed to be a hardy one (zone 5) maybe. It is from Seneca Hill . I have not ever grown them either because I didn't think they were hardy here. Thought I would give this one a try. Will report back next spring if it comes back. http://www.senecahillperennials.com/index.php?page=plants-b-c

New blooms today - Luna Red Rose Mallow. The blossom is huge - must be about 8" diameter. Eleanor

Nice Eleanor. Not fair - you beat me with Luna Red. I photographed it about ten days ago but have not been able to download the photos.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Luna Red is really nice, but I love that daylily and how the hosta blossoms accent it.

pixie:

Your DL looks like Lime Sorbet to me. How tall is the plant? Lime Sorbet grows about 2 to 2 1/2 feet. Just a guess.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Candyce, I found the tag...it was buried in the dirt but readable. It's called 'Dorethe Louise'

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Darn! I wasn't even close!

I'm glad you found the tag though. They are created to make life easier - they just don't want to always appear when we call them!

Here's my Liatris Ligulistylis .....and it appears I've caught a tricky Monarch flying upside down, lol!

I love your shot of the butterfly, aspenbooboo1 :-) Love your flowers as well

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Cleomes, black-eyed susans, and Salvia.......I love the color combo and the butterfly shot is nice too.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I like that combo too aspenbooboo1. Is that salvia Black and Blue? Do you have to replant every year or does it reseed and come back?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

A little OT here but since it rained all day here I thought I would share a shot of some Christmas balls my daughter and I made recently.

There's some blooms in there if you look real hard *lol*

Kim, a little Xmas in July? very pretty ornaments! I bought one like that at a craft show. do you sell them?

everybody keep those DL's comin'...they just get prettier :0)

Eleanor, it's nice to see the first rose mallow...so striking! I started some from seed and they are about an inch tall. just hope they put on enough growth to make it thru the winter.

where's Al? I d-mailed him my first dahlia...Lucky Number

Ruby Dwarf is nice but Lucky Number is heavenly!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Nice blooms everyone!! Thanks for the comments on the daylily and the rose mallow. Eleanor

Whitehall, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, Ngam, that's salvia guarantica 'black and blue'. It's my first year planting them, but they are really nice plants. It doesn't get any more blue than that! Hardiness zone is 7 :-(. I'm going to mulch heavily and cross my fingers they come back next year. Also trying to find info on collecting seed so I can start some indoors in spring. I use cedar mulch in my beds. Is it possible anything could reseed considering that?

Nice dahlia Grampapa, love the colors! I have been (im)patiently waiting for mine to bloom... seems like it's taking forever! I started from tubers and had four beautiful plants, but then decided I had to move them and ended up breaking the stems on all but one plant.
