Acorn Squash started now?

Tucson, AZ

Do you think if I plant acorn squash now, I can have some decent sized ones for the holidays? I bought one from the store yesterday and loved it so much, I saved the seeds. I washed them out really well, then set them outside for a day to dry out. They look ready to be planted and they are just such a beautiful display, I want them for fall. Any tips on planting them?

Just like a regular squash. They do come in both vining and bush form. If you bought one from the grocery, it is most likely a hybrid and bush but no guarantees. They also cross readily with other C. pepos so if the grower had a mixed patch you could get some surprises. The good news is that they are relatively early ( around 80 days)so if your first frost is three months away, you have time.
