Will I ever have female flowers on my pumpkins or watermelon

Tucson, AZ

Kind of important when you want to grow veggies huh? All my flowers are male. I do see one itty bitty female forming on my pumpkin, but that is it.

It takes time, more so with open pollinated cultivars. sometimes up to a month, but normally about two weeks from male flowering.

What a beautiful watermelon Farmerdill. I did notice today a tiny little female watermelon flower with the beautiful mock mini fruit at the base-not open though. I think I am so intent on looking for them because we have no bees and the ants are vicous so pollination is on me.

I think HR is saying, "Be patient..." :)

Growingup, no bees? I'm over on the east side of Tucson and we're doing fine. I am thinking of planting desert lavender close to my garden, though, to encourage "repeat business!"

Great point tucson, I agree. HR is correct, that we need to wait and we will be rewarded in the end. TY for your friendly response.

Well, the female flowers are there, but not blooming. Hopefully they'll bloom soon, I'd like some pumpkins for the holidays.

The little boys always come on before the little girls...when the vine is about 6/8ft pinch out the tip and this should prompt the little girls to come out.
