Hi everyone! I just got some of the wonderful Eon plant markers (Thanks Mendy!!!), and I was wondering if I could benefit from some of the mistakes of others. How do you label your plants? What info is most beneficial to put on the markers, and how do you keep them looking neat? Thought I'd ask before I got started, because I have been known to start projects like this, and then change my mind halfway through and have to start over. :-) Hoping you guys can save me from this fate, this time. Any suggestions?
Yokwe,
Shari
Plant markers
Hi Shari, cant say I have heard of these markers by name, but my info on plant markers start with the common mame, then the proper name, the date planted, the flower or leaf colour if tree/shrub, when it flowers,
annual, perennial, etc, I know this is a lot for a small label, but if you stick to some order, you can shorthand it with the exception of the names, like date I just ad 06-07 for june this year, pi is pink pu is purple and so on, try it out on a bit of paper the same size as the label and see what happens, I use both sides of my labels to get it all into the one label. good luck, WeeNel.
I don't put much information on my markers, usually just the botanical name of the plant, and if I sowed seed I add the date of sowing. The rest of the information - where and when I got the plant, whether it was bare-root or in a pot, what kind of plant it is (such as shrub or vine or perennial), where I planted it, when and what colour it flowers, and so on - I write on an index card and keep safely indoors.
Thanks folks! Appreciate the info!
I spray painted my hunter green, used the water proof vinyl labels from a different Co-Op... i put the name of the plant, where I got it and the year... then sprayed with the UV protectant spray to keep it from fading.
hmmmm....good idea!
gee weenel, have you ever tried granite tombstones? that is certainly what i was picturing with all those proper names and dates etc. Maybe that's a new idea, mini granite tombstones! it would be so decorative i wouldn't have to have any garden art.
my rose bed would look like a cemetary. a new garden theme.
no more bedframes with flowers growing in them, or waving silhouettes. I could junk my gazing ball and statuary. lol!
Len....some of the worlds most beautiful statues and flowers are in cemetaries. You may be on to something!
you could probably get a good deal on granite that has broken into smaller pieces that they would have usually used for countertops or tombstones.
weenel may have just started something!
Thankks for the info everyone!
