My neighbor has a Smoke bush (tree) growing in a shady area. While it has beautiful leaves, it does not bloom. It has shoots(offshoots) sprouting around the main trunk which is 12-15 feet tall.. My question is: can I start cuttings or dig up shoots to start my own plants.(With his permission of course.) I'm a novice, so pls give detailed instructions. thanks.
Smoke bush propagation
If they are suckers, they won't have roots, but will be attached to the trunk just below the soil. If they do have roots, then, yes you can certainly move one and start a new plant. Beat time would be in September, when it is not so hot. I am near Detroit, and I know your weather should be the same. According to Chuck Gadica, (weather guy on WDIV channel 4 detroit), we are getting cooler weather tomorrow and for the next week. which means you will be too, right? You could do it then. Just remember to water!!!
