My grandfather passed away last week and I have a peace lily from his funeral. I absolutely cannot let this plant die nor can I keep it inside. I have a courtyard right outside my bedroom door and would love to plant it there. I have an area that gets no direct sunlight. Would this be an acceptable place to plant the lily? Also, do I need new topsoil or is the soil that's already there going to be okay? I have TONS of other plants in my courtyard.
Need quick peace lily help
Hi Caelanller: Welcome to Daves Garden! I love Peace Lily's and have a couple. There are some that get quite large and others that are petite in size. For the most part I think they would all take the same kind of care. Peace Lily's do well in full shade, no direct sun at all! Hot sun would scorch these Beauties. They like to be watered regularly. I usually water mine once a week. Here's the link to one of these plants in Plant Files with some information you can read: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57837/
Good luck with your plant and again, Welcome to the Garden! You will love it here! Very many kind and generous people in this garden!

Caelanller,
If you put the peace lily outside, I would leave it in it's pot (so you can bring it inside during the winter) as it will not likely survive the winter in your area. I have one from my stepdaughter's funeral that I don't even put in morning sun. I have it where it gets indirect light from an east facing window and it's doing beautifully. Hope it survives for you. Plants like that are special. BTW, welcome to DG. Stop in for a visit in Mid South Gardening forum. We have several MS members there (at least one from Starkville too).
i grow mine inside as they need very little light.........don't even grow them near a window.........I will take a couple of pictures for you.l..............when they start to droop just a little, I water very well.........lots of water..........
The leaves on the very large ones break easily......wouldn't want them in any wind at all.
You can see on my big one that it is starting to 'droop a little'
***I raised a couple of leaves so you can see the bloom that is coming..
