Sun 6am-1pm Partial Sun? Light Shade? Full Sun?

I read in one book that full sun is 6 hours of sunlight, but another book of mine specifies that "Full Sun" refers to the hours of 10am-4pm. I have a large area that receives morning and noon sun, but no afternoon sun at all. Is it full sun, partial sun, or light shade?

Light shade would be the kind that you have under high trees. I would guess you have part sun.

Hi Kirstywins, I have a lot of trouble with all the different books and labels etc, I always go with part sun is where the plants get morning sun, they even might get a bit of evening sun with this, but I call it part sun, light sun to me is when plants are in say dapple shade, that is bright but not directly in the shade or sun, and full sun is plants that can take all the sun, morning and hot afternoon sun, it is to me more about the heat of the soil pluss the light as in UK we dont get too many days with full sun, you will soon learn about your own light conditions and shade, hot spots and cooler areas, as you get to know about the soil and the plants you want to grow, just dont forget, warm soil equalls less moisture as the real hot sun will dry it out really fast where as the cooler shadier places will stay slightly moister. always remember that the labels on plants are general guidance, they cant know all our growing conditions, good luck, Weenel.
