I claim to be a beginner gardener because I still do not know what I am doing with so many things, though I have been piddling for years.

I am preparing a new plot 1/2 acre in size to grow corn and such.

Thinking I was building organic matter into my soil I had seasoned cow manure dumped and spread about, and a great load of rotted cotton seed trash dumped and spread. I got it worked in nicely but did not plant it the first season. I now have Pigweed from the cow manure I did not have to deal with before, and lambs quarters from the cotton seed trash. These two join the joint grass, Bermuda grass, vetch, and a host of other weeds I already had.

How do I deal with these weeds before I plant a garden.

I've tried plowing them under before they seed for several seasons but it just seems to encourage them.

I have a Super C tractor but my cultivators are not ready for work yet (looking for parts).

I'm thinking herbicides but do not know what herbicide is ok with what veggies.

mow,till plant and weed. you'll never completely eliminate weed seed from the ground, it can remain dormant for years. i would till just before planting. plant then keep the weeds down until the plants get established. then cultivate or hoe to keep the weeds down.
when you plowed last year and left the ground dormant just created space and sunshine for all the weed seeds to sprout and new ones to blow in and opportunity for other plants to spread in on an open canvass. you don't have to eliminate every weed, just allow space and sunshine for your new plants to compete.
