Irish (scotch) moss question

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone,
Is anyone growing iris moss. I have some round stepping stone leading to my hose spitgot so I decided to plant irish moss in between the stone. The problem is they are turning yellow and not looking too good. They are in full sun and get a lot of watering because of being so near the hose spigot plus I water twice a day.
Do you think I need to move them somewhere else. I bought four plants and I've only plant 2 so far. I'm not sure if I want to put the other 2 between the stones if they are only going to die. Should I move them?
Thanks Sue

I have 3 of each and they are in full sun. They get watered sporadically (we've been in a very bad drought). They've doubled or more in size since buying them last fall. One thing to watch out for is fertilizer. I put some slow release around them and some fell on the Irish moss and has caused a small burn (at least I think that is what caused it). The Scotch moss is growing faster than the Irish though.

The one Irish moss is growing despite the burn.

My Irish & Scotch moss are in the shade and love it. The info stick that came in both said it was a shade moss. I use Verinica - Golden Creeping Speedwell in between my stepping stones and it loves it. They get full some there. I also use one of the Thymes (I think it's Magic Carpet) that grows very close to the ground for in between my stones. This also is in the full some.

Check out the "Stepables" website.

I'm surprised that the mosses are doing so good in full sun. I may start plugging some between our stacked rocks this fall.

Mine are not in full sun. I killed my first plant by doing that so I wouldn't do that. The Veronica I described above is lime green (there is a dark green too) and I plugged it in some oyster shells I have stacked around my mints. It is doing wonderful and loves the sun.

My two scotch moss plants that are in the sun are turning yellow and dying. I have two more I haven't plant yet. I think I better choose a different spot. Maybe under my birdbath. I guess I'll dig up the 2 that are on the verge of checking out an move them there too. It can't hurt.
Maybe I should look for something else to put between the stepping stones. Something that likes sun.

Thanks everyone,
Sue

Sue, try a low growing Thyme or the creeping Veronica I mentioned above. Both do great in the sun and will look great between stones.
