Jasmine- Maid of Orleans

Northport, NY

The flowers on my Maid of Orleans Jasmine plant fall off as soon as they open. Why is this?

Hi yjing, when you say the flowers just fall off as soon as they open, are they turning brown, then fall off, are they finished flowering, or are they just falling soon as they first open, as these are all different problems, if they just open and drop off, then check that the plant roots are not too dry, if it is grown indoors, then could be the air around the plant is too dry,in too bright sunlight etc, so give it a misting when you water, or indoors and in a dry hot room, water more feed it AND mist it, it sound like the wrong growing conditions, maybe needs repotted and watered, how long have you had the plant and how long has it been in the pot, tip it out from the pot and look at the roots, if all dry and overcrouded, then that is the problem, if outdoors, then pos needs fed and watered, hope this helps, good luck. WeeNel - Thanks for all your suggestions. The jasmine flowers indeed have been falling off as soon as they first open. I will try giving the plant more water as you suggested, and misting it as well. Haven't had the plant very long. Bought it a few months ago from Logees and have been growing it in a small pot on my windowsill. Hope to have the plant for a very long time as I do love the fragrance of the flowers. Thank you again! - Yjing

Hi yjing, take your plant off the windowsill as the sun through the glass, acts like a magnifying glass, that is like you stuck in a car in the heat of the sun and being unable to get air, in the situation it is in, the plant is dehydrating at the spead of lightning and that will cause flower drop also, I would move it away from the window, but still give it sun LIGHT, that is maybe in a position where the sun shines into the room but not directly onto the plant, you should also give it a liquide plant feed maybe once per week as it is useing a lot of energy producing flowers, when it has finnished flowering for this year, repot it into a bigger pot with some nice rich compost and less water as it will need to go into a rest period, once it starts to regrow in the spring, then feed and water it slowly at the start then increace as it forms flower buds, this should help you get many years from your lovely perfumed Jasmin, good luck WeeNel.
