sun
too much rain
woo hoo I got out and got stuff planted. Taking break and hoping clouds don't sneak up on me. lol
Ok I got a few things done and at least the canna bed is ready when the rain next takes a breather I can put the bulbs in. BTW that means yes folks it's raining AGAIN!!
Yes, it's raining in Dallas now, too. But it's a small cell and hopefully will be gone shortly. We did have sun all morning, that was a nice break.
Carla
in the last 10 minutes we have had sun, HARD RAIN, and now sun.
i'm planting and weedeating between storms. Getting things done at least and then time for a break, lol.
I started weeding this morning and got sprinkled on...came in to rest. Just now came in from an hour of weeding...no rain this time...just too hot and tired. I weeded a ENTIRE BLACK LAWN BAG full of weeks and culls....wow! This rain has all the weeds and St. Augustine growing, for sure!
My purple petunias are turning yellow....I'm sure it's all the water.
The angelonia seems to Love Love Love all the water...it has doubled in the last 3 weeks!! Here's a pic...
And you've still got your salvia. Only 2 of my originals hanging on. Very pretty.
That's gorgeous, Connie!
The salvia don't look good...very yellowish....too much rain....
ok, I feel better now. lol
Beautiful. Another evidence of a green thumb. (with lots of elbow grease on the end of it)
watching rain gauge again. 1/2" in less than 15 minutes. lots of lightening and thunder. we are on a hill and am not sure that we are not going to eventually flood. I have the large gauge with the orange float. am literally watching it move up. worried for those with livestock to care for. even a barn or other shelter would not help in this as it would just flood too. in the 90 seconds it has taken to type this....we have another 1/4 inch and moving up.
the rain started here at 4:00 as I looked at the time on the PC. It is now 4:17 PM and the gauge is almost 1 1/4". would that calculate to 6" per hour. no where near slowing down so this could be another of those that they had in Marble Falls last week....19" in less than 24 hours. Oh gosh. those on the rivers and creeks don't stand a chance. who would have ever dreamed........?????
TV giving tornado warnings less than 6 miles to my south. now 1 1/2" rain since 4:00 PM and it is now 4:53 and still going strong.
shouldn't brag....this is my front porch and the water is within 6 inches of the door. on a concrete slab so it can come under the wall. not expecting a full flood but have never had this much rain all at once either. Hailing to the north/west.

College Station is in Brazos County and near both the Brazos and Navasota rivers. I've noticed a lot of people moving their cattle.
Oh i missed the gap between sun and rain, all my neighbors mowed and i didn't. So I'm the one with the grass up to my knees, They did it just to make me look bad, hahahaha. My plants are alll loving it.
Our grass was already up to our knees last week. I was so thankful that DH finally cut the grass. He hates doing that, but I can't because I won't be able to breath the next day. It rained again yesterday. 1 1/4 inches and twice today.
bf tried to change the blades on mine and now it won't start. Lawn mower repair places tell me 3 - 4 wks. If you come to see me, bring machetes.
got ours mowed and weed eated on sat. rained nearly 2" yesterday and some today.
funny thing is... got a water restriction notice in the mail today!~ *giggle yea right
AuntAnne, got a similar problem. BF couldn't keep my riding LM running so I went out & bought a self-propelled HONDA. Hondas are great & very dependible! I am on my 4th Honda vehichle & can not even count how many Honda motorcyles I have had over the last 30+ yrs.
Would you believe he has screwed the new LM up & like you said 3-4 wks in shop, even with the warranty! lol
He is good for feeding the cats but useless for MANY other things!
:~)
Yeah he's sweet but definitely mechanically DEclined.
Heard on the tv that a large majority of the State Parks are closed because they are either underwater or have been. Ft. Worth certainly had it's share this afternoon. So sorry for the people that have lost their homes and cars. Pray that they have enough sense to stay out of the water.
LouC, I haven't seen any news today but FtW is where I'm fr & where the folks still are! My mom has been saying they are getting it & it is heading my way. Will have to call & ck on them in the morning!
Thanks for the heads up.
Well, would you believe it is raining. We seem to be in an all or nothing pattern. Again, I can actually see the orange floater in the rain gauge moving up by the minute. I just pray that the other areas are not again flooding homes. The official measurable rain at DFW is waaayy under what we have received here at my home. If only I had kept a journal. This is a weather event that will definitely break records.
Raining here in East Texas too! If you walk in my yard it is like walking on a wet sponge. I have brug beds standing in water and these are beds with good drainage! I so hope they don't rot! They all have buds on them too! They are in full sun (LOL) but I don't think they have had full sun but for a day or two since I planted them...
It rained on our outdoor concert after the parade (fortunately we were under a roof) and it's rainin' again now. Interrupted my tomato tieing job! Tomatoes are finally producing, but not like they should.
It rained on us a couple of times in Comfort, We had to go inside when it just got too heavy. Were able to set off fireworks though and that was fun. Haven't been able to do that in a couple of years with it always being dry on July 4th.
..........raining.............
All that rain on the watershed of the rivers has them at flood stage.
Behind our house, Oyster Creek feeds the Brazos, but with so much water in the Brazos, it backs up.
Highest I've ever seen it and have been in the house since '87.
Reported 48' at Brazos Bend State Park this morning.
Wow.. 48 feet or inches?? Either way, that's a lot of water! Those alligators are going to end up in all sorts of unexpected places.. Eek!
It's raining - again, still, yet - more tonight and more
tomorrow. I can't stand it. All my plants are turning
black.
Got water in the family room 2 days ago - even the
French drains were bubbling up water, and the grass
was under 6 inches for a few hours.
My daughter's roof is leaking, the plaster in the ceiling
has disolved in several rooms and the water is dripping
down on her bed. The bathtub cracked because the
foundation shifted a bit. The roofer won't come until
Monday because he is so backed up. I am beyond
disgusted.
Feet, Marylyn.
We have a few in our lakes all the time, but not usually in the creek - Now they will be there!
Mahnot, Watched the tragedy of the floods in Watauga on tv even as it was happening. I remember in the late 50's when NRH was flooded. We lived in Oak Cliff and my parents went to help a friend whose home was inundated. I, too, am very frustrated and gloomy in this weather. Only loosing plants that can always be replaced. Sooo sorry about the water in your home and your daughter's. Laundry area is in the garage and every time I go there to wash the mosquitos almost carry me away. The garden is what keeps a lot of us sane I believe and we are being denied therapy as we also fight the results of rain, rain, rain, rain.
1" since 9 AM today. 1 3/4" yesterday and on, on,
What I don't understand and I'm really PO'd about
is WHY on earth they allow people here to build
on ground that is so visibly sloped TOWARDS the
house, and not away from it. This house is pier and
beam. One end of it is fine, but the other end sits
below grade. They should have graded the ground
so that water runs away from the house, not towards it.
Who the heck is doing the inspecting ? And who is
paying off whom in order to get away with this kind
of shoddy practice ?
Tonight's forecast is for more rain, and more rain, and more rain, and more rain, and more rain, and more rain, and more rain..................ad infinitum!!!!!!
Maybe I should build and ARC?????
Lou, you would need gopher wood for that, and where
on earth would you find it these days? They don't even
know what kind of wood that is for sure. I've never seen
any at the HD or at Lowe's. :o)
Just had my dogs out and it's drizzling here, plus more
and more and more on the way. I've never seen the
branches on the trees so low. Everything smells like
old mold and even the inside of my car smells like an
old shoe. So much for the stars at night being big and
bright , deep in the heart of Texas. All propoganda, if
you ask me.
With city lights we dont see many stars here anyway... at least we did get the rain to stop for July Fourth fire works... There is standing water in the whole backyard this morning...
