A local tour company is offering a day trip to Logee's in Danielson, Ct. Has anyone been there and is it worth the trip?

I've been there and loved it. It probably would depend on the type of plants you like. If you are focused on perennials - forget it, but if you love tropicals, begonias, citrus, unusual geraniums and wonderful vines like passifloras, don't miss it. Check out their web site www.logees.com and and see what you will see. The greenhouses are old but filled with glorious colorful plants. As you can probably tell, I'd go back in a skinny minute.

LOL That is what I would need. A lot of fat hours actually, it is about 1000 miles away.
Logees was the highlight of the year we lived in Boston.

They are in CT, not that far from Boston. My parents bought plants from them when I was young; they have been there a while.

I have bought plants via the internet, and they have arrived in great shape. Most of their plants are considered tropical; shipping may be curtailed in freezing winter temperatures.

I think I was there 25 years ago, before the current owners. I'm not even sure if it was open to the public then. It's probably a much larger operation now. I can still remember the heavenly scent of earth mixed with exotic flora. Go...go!

It is run today by the son of the original owners I believe.

It is run by the son and isn't really big - but has tons of plants. Most are hardy in zones 7 and up, a few zone 5-6, some cactus, some orchids. it's like a jungle - there are even vines growing on the bathroom ceiling. The asiles (?) are very narrow so if you're not a peanut I wouln't get dressed up. I think all their stuff is good quality and the owner, if you can catch him, is a nice and knowledgabel guy. But seriously, I've gone there in the winter - 20 degrees - and left my coat in the car. So bring water. It's not a place that you want to hurry thru.
