Gram, yes you got the name right. Mine are starting to show some real color now. I'll post pics soon.
Cat, I got some Bleeding Heart seeds, too. Thanks for the info, they will get planted very soon.
Dave, This is too hot. I bet you had the air on in your car, right? Too hot. My strawberries are cooking, lol. (They are about done any way, lol.)
Much to my chagrin, I forgot to bring some Blue Eyed Grass seeds.

Es gleicht, vielleicht auf dieses Thread, man braucht nicht ubersetzen.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, me too, Andy.

Please?

AA flight 1095 tomorrow is me. :)

dave

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

oh, he's jetBlue. Well, at least now you know where to stay next time you're in town. And don't be sneaking in and out of Logan.

xxx, Carrie

I always fly AA to Dallas, or Continental to Houston, or JetBlue to Austin (all these are non-stops!)

dave

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

In Logan. my DH works in jetBlue's "operations tower". Because he was working the St. Valentine's day storm, nobody sat on the ground in Boston for hours.

He says to ask you if you were in the military. ?

xxx,
Carrie

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Carrie, I always fly jetblue whenever they fly where I want to be, it is a great airline

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anyone wishing Blue Eyed Grass seed should DM me. They are not the fancy kind and they re-seed easily. Easy to weed out when young but they love cracks in walk/drive ways. Dead heading is highly recommended if grown in a flower bed. They are perennials for full sun. They are so heat tolerant Dave could grow them in Texas. lol

I've been trying to remember the name of the girl who I was speaking to about our web sites. Who else here has a photo site? I should know this but I can't remember the name.
We were talking about improving membership and activity when we got interrupted. I visited her site a couple of times a while back, too. (Senior moments can strike at any time, lol.)

"Girl", Andy? Girls are usually under 21. There were a few of those there - was it one of them? The rest were women or ladies!

The only German I know is what JFK said to the people of Berlin when the embargo was taking place. Something like "Ich ein Berliner" trying to let them know that he, too, was a Berliner. Unfortunately, it literally translated "I am a doughnut"

They liked him anyway.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Dave47 ..LOL You are right.JFK said "Ich bin ein Berliner " and donuts are called Berliner in some regions.

Where I grew up a donut is called "Krapfen" saying it in in high german which is taught in school or in regional dialect "Kreppel"

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ja ja, Dave er hat gesagt " Ich bin ein Berliner". I also think you know the word "wunderbar" " bei mir bist to schoen" the Andrew sisters? but you are just a baby next to me; also 'kaput" " Auf Wiedersehen"? And probably quite a few more.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Maria,
how is your gardening going ? are you still into DL ? and how is your husband doing ? write me a d-mail if you have a chance.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Carrie, it's all in your perspective. I'm old enough to call all the women 'girls'. Well, the nice ones anyway.

Providence, RI(Zone 6a)

Kassia~ I LOVE your turtles!!! What kind are they? Where did you get them? How do you care for them? How long do they live? I'll see them when I drive down sometime this summer to meet you and Seandor, OK? :-)

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

the turtles are Eastern Painted Turtles... I found them (eggs) last year... my gift for becoming a gardener!!! they are easy to care for... just change water every day, feed them turtle food... and they may outlive me... please stop by.. they are so sweet!!!

German speakers: my husband and I each learned German as American English speakers in good US schools. I was in Frankfurt for 2 hours once and he has never been to Europe, poor soul. We have a running disagreement. Where does bitte go in the sentence? DH says "kommen Sie mit (mir), bitte?" and I feel in my ear it should be "kommst du bitte mit (mir)"?

xxx, Carrie

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Carrie,
I am very familiar with Frankfurt. My hometown is Aschaffenburg which is approximately 30 minutes going south.First Frankfurt,Hanau,Aschaffenburg,Nuernberg,Munich etc.....

Now to your question. One can say "Kommen Sie mit bitte ? or "Kommen Sie mit mir bitte " or one can put 'Bitte' in front of both sentences.
Your husband is using the word 'SIE" which is proper german in addressing a person you don't know or don't know well.

Carrie, the same with your sentence. You can put please( Bitte) in front or at the end of the sentence.
You are using the word ' DU' which is used to addess children, family members or people you know very well.
German people can be very formal, distant but after you get to know them you have a friend for life.
One more thing. It is ALWAYS the older person who offers the informal 'Du" to younger people to address them with.

Kassia, sorry for hyjaking but since we are in the rose forum :-) the word Rose is also Rose in german,a slightly different pronounciation thou.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Brigitte, no problem... I am glad you found Maria... and you both started all the german speaking... very interesting!!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Eglantyne,

So we're both right. And I, too, find his use of Sie remarkable. We dated for a few years and have been married for seven, yet he still doesn't feel comfortable using "du" with me! Men, impossible.

Vielen Dank.

xx, Carrie
