My squash blooms, closes the bloom then dries up and falls off along with the stem it's on (with no squash in sight).
I have the plants (summer straight neck) in a 5 gal pot, on my patio, 5-6 hours sun.
Do the squash need pollination? I have it sitting next to a balloon flower which attracts bumble bees, but I haven't seen any bumble bees on the squash. How can I pollinate it myself?
Thanks for any help!
squash blooms
If no squash is in sight, then you are only seeing male blossoms. It is common on older cultivars for male blossoms to appear a week or so before the first female. The female blossom will be on the end of a miniature squash. If you have bumbles or their look alike Carpenters, they should take care of pollination.
Thanks, Farmerdill.
