Powdery Mildew on cucumbers plant

Hampton, VA(Zone 7b)

Hi all!

Yesterday when I went out to the garden, I noticed one of my three 'Bush Champion' cucumber plants is starting to develop what looks like powdery mildew. It looks like the same thing my bee balm gets from time to time, that's why I think it's powdery mildew.

I have some other cucumber plants, 'Sweet Success' and 'Burpless'. I have not seen any signs of the powdery mildew on them or the other two 'Bush Champions'.

Anyone know what might cause this or if it could possibly spread? All the cukes are planted in the same area.

Thanks!

Some cultivars are resistant to powdery mildew, but yes it does does spread rapidly under damp conditions, A fungicide containing copper or a homemade one using a couple tablespoons of baking soda per gallon of water will work. It like a wet acidic environment so any basic material will work. Some folks use skim or powdered milk.

Thanks,farmerdill!

There have been times where I have watered in the evening because I wouldn't have time to water in the morning. Could this contribute to the plant developing powdery mildew?

Some folks I have talked to have said it does, some have it doesn't. I guess it just depends on who I talk to.

I think it does because the water can't evaporate off the foliage of the plant as quickly in the evening as it does during the day, when its warmer and you have the sun. mold/fungus thrive on cool, moist environments.
