im a beginner an dont know much about gardening, here`s my question. When you first plant flowers is it common for some flowers to die and others replace them?

Hi,

Did the flowers first grow to full size, flower, die, and then were replaced later by new ones coming up in place of the ones that died? If so, the answer is yes. Many flowers self-seed. This means when the ones you planted were through flowering, they formed seeds which fell on the ground. This seed sprouted and new plants came up from that seed.

A lot of times when you first plant something, the plant will want to focus on building strong roots so it'll drop some of its flowers. Depending on what sort of plant it is, it may bloom again later or sometimes it may not bloom again until the following year. Also, individual flowers don't last forever, so if you bought the plant when the flowers were just about done blooming that could be what happened too, again if it's a type of plant that will bloom repeatedly then you'll get more flowers, but if it's one that just blooms once then it won't until next year.

Hi Kaylen, yes it is common for the flowers to die, then new ones grow and flower, then thes die and so on, the best way to help your plants are, once you see the flowers dying, remove them, just the dead flowers, not the growing part of the plant, once you deadhead the flowers, you should see new little buds, these will be the next flowers, you just continue to do this till the end of the season, the plants will either die for good, like Annuals that you grow from seed, flower and die all in the one year, or Byannials, these plant seed one year then grow greenery and dont flower till the second year and then die, but perennials, plant seeds, grow greenery, maybe flower the same year, then they die off in the winter and regrow every year after that unless you are in a really cold zone, then you will have to mulch over them and will pos grow again next year, unless you know the kind of flowers you have, it is hard to tell you if they will flower again next year, so if pos, let us know and someone will help, but as with all flowers, you cut the dead ones off to get more new buds. good luck, WeeNel.
