Planting suggestions for "holey" rocks

Satsuma, AL(Zone 8b)

I went caving a couple of weeks ago and scored some great limestone rocks (taken from an area being logged).

There are a few with plenty of holes (some holes go all the way through); I would like to use these in my gardens somehow; I would like to know if there are any recommendations of small plants which would do well if I stuck them in the holes. Some type of succulents come to mind, but I don't have much experience with those.

These would just be placed in the garden somewhere. See the pic for an idea of how big these rocks are.

Thanks,
David

I don't have limestone rocks with actual planting holes but I have a lot of river rock that I have started to plant with small plants such as sempervivums, sedum, blue-eyed grass, wave petunias, and even some prostrate junipers in hopes of softening some of the edges. I remove the rock, push the plant into a crevice making sure it makes contact with the soil, backfill with soil if needed, and stack the rock back around the rootball.

I do have one lava rock that has a variegated weeping fig planted in it but then I have to bring it indoors in winter.

Thanks. Sedums came to mind earlier, too; I'll be on the lookout!

I've done it with Hens and Chicks.

Here is an awesome planting that someone posted in the succulent forum:

Wow!! Thanks much. That looks incredible.

The crazy thing is that there are rocks that big where I found mine...

After seeing that picture, I wanted one of those rocks, badly!

You are so lucky to know where to find them
