Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? Part 6

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I looked over the side and there was no one and no way to dissappear like that and not be seen, it was a revine on the side of a large 6 lane road.

Two of them again and I had seen them in the park the year before. I thanked God and my dd remembers it to this day when she was 3.

Is that not cool or what?

Sometime I`ll tell you what happened to my dd that was similar.

sorry to any of you who have other beliefs. Myself and a few others drove someone off of a thread they started because we talked about God and it made some people uncomfortable and they left too.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Betty those leaf "molds" are cool, I was thinking you used the rubber pre-made ones *LOL* silly me! You and my sister could have such fun together, she is like you talent wise but likes to spread it around to friends so she can "martyr" herself but for family we have to beg to get anything fixed or done, LOL and then we never hear the end of it, so it's better just to pay someone else to do it.

I haven't given my best or worst in ages so I'll do yesterdays

Best my Father was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross yesterday (long overdue) at Fort Rucker, AL. He already has several medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star just to name a few. Needless to say we are very proud of him, he on the other hand was very impressed with it all *LOL* I think my step-mom had to bribe him to get him to play nice and go.

Worst was of course I wasn't with him.

What I learned was that my Dad is laid back about these things.

Oh Dawn, how very lucky you were...you couldn't talk to anyone better than I..I truly believe we all have angels looking after our wellbeing...you just have to believe in them...others think it's fantasy, but for those of us who see so much goodness..they are there...

Araness...sorry you couldn't be with your 'father' today on this his special day..no wonder you are very proud of him...

As for the leaves, we did hundreds last year, in fact, entire driveway was almost covered...had girlfriends/husbands almost every weekend doing some for walkways..I enjoy showing them how to do them and watching their excitement...biggest thing, is waiting till tomorrow aft. to turn them over and see the finished project..you can scrub the rhubbarb leaf off but I leave it and they dry and you can just peel them off just as a snake skin comes off...and guess what..while friend Anne came over to paint her blue heron this a.m. I basecoated your Victorian Santa and traced pattern on..soooo I'm ahead of the game!
You do know that after next Sunday-July 1st..we're on the downswing to Christmas..now am I not a ball of sunshine...giving you this tid-bit..lol...

So now for my best of the day....garage sales early this morning...purchased 3 lamp bases....will post photo tmr. as they are still in the car..tried explaining them but photo will do better...when fall comes, I'll rewire and make stained glass shades and getting the leaves poured I wanted to do for front walkway..and...setting in 3 steps to back garden, need 2 more..maybe tomorrow...

Worst thing...mixing the cement my nail, the one I dropped the rock on and thought I wouldn't loose started to lift..I've cut some of it off, but I'll have to watch I don't get infection...

What did I learnt today...same old/same old/ 'not as young as I used to be' ... tire much to quickly...am doing the old adage lol...early to rise - early to bed... or is it the other way around...

Anyway, I made rhubbarb pie this aft. with the rhubbarb from the leaves and rhubbarb sauce...cooked some corn and now I have to decide if I've got enough energy to eat it...got the chills, electric blanket going....had to wash my clothing as I had about 1/4 of the cement on me...lol...to I'll fold it, put it away, eat something and then I'm closing this day up...got a lot accomplished..that always makes me happy...hate wasting a day..if today is my last, I've made it worthwhile..just a kidding..good Lord I'm sure has a few more planned for me...soooo dear friends...have a great evening...don't let the bed bugs bite!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Betty, i cant believe the stuff you do! gosh i would fall in a heap for a month!

you do lead light work too??? wow i am sooo envious!

helln, that was a very cool story......
dont worry about beliefs and such.... its of no offence. It would be different if we used our beliefs as a weapon so to speak or push it on people. I think part of this thread is understanding one another and getting to know each other. knowing what makes you tick and respecting your beliefs is part of that. Peple dont have to agree.. so never worry about that.....Im sure everyone would agree....

DD is coming today so i will give you an update later... will try and get a pick of Rylie my DS for you. he is really growing fast!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

sorry, i dont getthe rubarb thing... what are you doing with them??

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

wonder, rhubarb pie is a great dessert......betty will have to tell you. It is an old dish that was served many years ago in the mountains of eastern KY and surrounding areas...probably lots of places, but in any case, a wonderful dessert.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

I wonder where I could get the leaves...DH likes to eat the rhubarb raw (gagyuckbarf) but I bet given enough concrete LOL and lots and lots of space and time I could turn out enough of those that looked nice.

Betty it's never to early for Christmas for me, I loved this last Christmas because for once I got to have it in my own home with my DH family. Was our first holiday together and I had a blast with the kids.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Araness that is something to be proud of and the fact that your pop is so humble that much more magnifant. I must do some leaves too.

I don`t apologize for my beliefs but some people on DG get real angry about even mentioning God, because they are athiests etc. and I am not trying to make anyone feel bad, but as you said Wonder, we are all trying to get to know eachother and where we all come from and why. This is the most important part of me and it is a big part of what makes me a compassionate and careing person. If someone wants to know where compassion comes from, it is from the core of my soul.

Victoria Harbour, ON

True words Dawn, I really do think the tragedies we experience in life either does you in or makes you stronger and more compasionate...think we are the latter...

Well it's 7am - housework done, yard work done and I've an entire day ahead of me..so I'm going outside to see what project I can round up...the front walkway will consist of the leaves that I made yesterday, they need to be turned over..would like to put them into position on the grass and leave till next week, then I simply move them over and know where to cut out the sod as it will have killed grass underneath..but, one of the stones took 1 1/2 bags of cement so difficult for me to lift and move...will have to call son over and see if he can give me 1/2 hr..he's so busy right now, flies to Calgary every week, has kids in sports, re doing his home, doing finishing touches on the "Foxy Lady" so we can get her in water next week and I'm sure he'd like an hour to relax sooo hate to ask him for 'time'...knowing me I'll slug and slug and get it done....well, thinking of heading to home depot/Canadian Tire so I'm off and will drop in later today..enjoy your day!

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

betty im already tired just reading how many leaves you made lol
did i hear home depot................. i was there yesterday my mom got me that bench i wanted for my bday so i got it out now so now off to napa to see the inlaws oh boy

Liz, I love your bench but I can see little pot people behind it, could you possibly take photo of it? Aren't we just so lucky to still have mom's..mine did an entire king size bed top in cross stitch..now just have to get it quilted..I quilt but lordy lordy it's a big job and my elderly Aunt said she's love to do it for me sooo I just have to sew two parts together...should take Mom to home depot and hint around when I'm near the benches..was there the other day and didn't see one, but I'll look today...went outside and turned leaves around, now I'll let sun dry the leaves off..where there is a will there is always a way..I was able to turn them over so I thought, light bulb came on, why not take an old blanket, roll it over onto the blanket and pull it to area I want it in...now isn't that a smart idea....it is, until my back gives out lol...here's photo of leaves this morning...taken step by step photo's because girlfriend want to instruct a neighbors mom who is here from PEI and of course can't take these on plane...so I'll share another photo...

Wonderful leaves, Betty.....makes me want to go right out and make some, but don't have large leaves. AND don't think the maple leaves in my yard are quite big enough.......maybe an elephant ear would work.

and the pot people, liz, how fun!!!

Lots of projects going on today, but we have rain, so think i will go shopping.
Have a great day, will check in later.

Amen to that Darius..how are you feeling 'sweetie' not overdoing I hope...rain or sunshine in your neck of the woods?

Sher..just got back from town...had a list of supplies, purchased everything other than what was on my list...lol...spoiling myself again...so now, I'll change into my grubs and off to work outside...

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol I love the pot person with the matching gloves and boots...to bad she can't have a hat too!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

still raining, haven't been shopping yet, still playing with kitties. Dreary day, worried about my friend Julie who is undergoing chemo, mentioned her earlier on another thread. But today I can't get her off my mind long enough to settle on any one thing.
also sundays, especially rainy ones, bring me way down. Projects inside to do, but cannot concentrate.
Maybe later when I get this lump outta my throat.
Tell me some fun stuff so I don't dwell inside my head and my heart, I need a break from it.
Jazz and Daisy are helping, but they are involved with themselves, and it is hard on an old lady to roll around in the floor with them. Besides I don't have a tail for them to chase.

Good Day to all-

Liz-I just adore you little pot people and the garden space! How fun and magical is must be to work or sit and ponder in that section.

Helln-Wow - that is an incredible story. Sounds to me that Angels do walk with you.
I have beleived in the Spirits visiting us or helping us in many different manners. Like Betty has said one only needs to see.
Once, when I was very young, the brother came into our room. He was naked and wanted the sister to scratch his back! I was Racking with fear. Holding breath and didn't make a single sound. She lied and said she had to use the bathroom first-So she ran from the room leaving me alone. In those minutes, which at the time seemed to be an eternity, All I could do was pray. I prayed for help-To my very suprise a sort of peace came over me, and a very misted beautiful white form of the most breathtaking woman appeared sitting on the sister's bed. She was wispering my name in a very calm voice.
She didn't say anything else but Judy, Judy-As I watched in awe, suddendly the door flew open and the mom came in wanting to know where the brother was. I just pointed and was told to leave the room, Gladly I did. That very angel has comforted me many times after that. She has weeped, as a warning signal. That was the first of many that she had appeared, either by sight or sound...In the end I am always at ease and unafraid.
...Giggling here on you take of birdie, DUH is so right never though of it they way you did.

Arness-Congratualtions to your dad. I can feel you proudness-A smile and a hug comes to my mind.

Betty-my your rubarb leaves are so neat! What great idea, and they look so cool clustered as you have them. I so can't wait till you launch the "Foxi Lady"!
You know Betty, I am just delighted at all your work, and I do hope that you are getting help with all that cement! LOL-I don't laugh about your going to bed so early, In the last couple of days I have awaken at 5:30 and exhausted by 7:30-

Yesterdays best My DD Grad party was a huge success. She is blessed with so many caring people, friends and family.

Worst-She didn't want me to create a photo board, We did anyway, only using the grad photo's I took. and very few baby pics.

Learned, I am so Proud of her and not in the slightest bit shy about it. My girl has learned it is ok to be the center of attention-She worked hard and earned every minute

Another best-I find myself with nothing to do-So I will work on my garde house, and paint my bird house.

I hope your day today is eventfull(in a good way), restfull and just beautiful.

OK, so Jazz saw my tears and leaped upon my computer desk....and I gave him a treat....already knows my moods. Good thing he only weighs 1 pound, if it had been Daisy, she would have crashed the computer!!

Shar,
I am so sorry to hear of your friend- I will keep her and you in my thoughts an prayers today. I'll be able to check in all day today!
Here is a very funny story just for you.
When we bought our very first home, It was a handyman special. We were always working on it. Well anyway DH was very busy working late one day wich meant i came home to a very empty large house. It was fall so it was kind of dark. I went about my business with out flipping the lights, I knew exactly where things were. When all of the sudden. Out the cornor of the corner of my eye, I see at the end of the hallway. On the floor was a pair of legs that were crossed wearing brown shoes. OMG what the heck is that?!? I called out who is that? Nothing no movement, I yelled you better get out of here. I went into the kitchen and returned to see still no movemment. Now, It was a day that I decided to where higher heals to work, (usually always wear flats) and so now I am getting frantic. It's getting darker so i get behind a chair and yell hey my Husbands going to be home any minute. Still nothing. So I call DH and said when are going to be home? I said there's a body at the end of the hall- He says your crazy... I said well I am not staying here another minute-I hang up the phone, grab my key and leave. All I kept think was get out of the house. So no where to go I was 5 blocks to the shopping mall. I had no money. So I walked around Sears for 2.5 hours, now i know the store is getting ready to close and i have to walk all the way back. I was purley exhausted, so I took my heals off and made the treck back. Oh man DH still was not back, the house now dark and there was no way on this earth I was going in. So sat on the front stoop and waited.
Finally DH gets home and is shocked I am outside. He asked what are you doing out here-All I could say was I am not going into that house. It's haunted -there's a body at the of the hall. Se went in he went shaking his head. I stayed put, The light goes on, the light goes off! He comes staggering out saying come hear I gotta show you this. So he takes my hand guides me to the hall and flips the swtich, My eyes grow wide and I screaming see there it is-He bust out laughing pulling me closer and says yeah Babe it's your body.
Sure enoughI scared my self right out the house with my very owns jeans and boots. Must took em off right there in a quick change and forgot all about it!
hahaha-That story is retold by everyone in my family. When we moved here the kids told dad to check for ghosts! Still laugh and shaking my own head.

Hope that brough a smile to you-
Judy

So Sher you asked for something to make you laugh..Judy did a good job of it so now I'll give it a try...

Shortly after we were married we lived in an older 2 story house..Roger came home with a group of male friends...they were having a few, laughing/joking and the boys were upstairs...heard one crying and was toooo interested in what the guys were up to, trying to HEAR, that as I ran upstairs to the children and half trying to catch what the men were saying and NOT paying attention, my neck got caught between where the staircase joins the ceiling...soooo as Roger had to come and pry we out, all were laughing that I was being a snoop...got caught...

worst: healing takes longer as we age.

best: friends abound.

what i learned: you can get through almost anything with pure grit even when your body and mind do not think so. i would have drowned in my pond overflow a few days ago except for sheer grit. 45 minutes in 34º water and no use of one arm would have done me in except for grit.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Betty I think your gardens are beautiful but they need lill people...no gnomes? LOL do I have to send you a cowboy gnome? I want this lill guy for my yard but the DH is being a spoil sport about it.

Darius...OMG, what happened? Did you slip? Is the pond very deep? you could have drowned...34 degrees...you are lucky you don't have pneumonia...water not the cleanest in ponds either..you have to watch that you don't get infection in your fresh cut...wow you are a lucky girl...
you must tell us how it happened....please!

Araness...cute as a button...did go to home depot..apparently they have 3 sizes of Home Depots..and, ours is the smallest so they don't carry a whole lot..was disappointed...

Hi all. Have been very busy - not sure doing what, but I'm exhausted so I must have been doing something! :)

We went down on the James River yesterday - down by the plantations. Beautiful area! I found TONS of river rocks to bring home and circle two trees with. Of course I listened to DH complain (good naturely) about the extra weight on the boat! I don't know what it is but I have a real rock fetish! LOL!

Here are a few pictures from the day - inlcuding our 21 LB baby boy - Murphy!
