Chinese Lanterns

Manchester, United Kingdom

I am a complete novice and would like to know the best care for these plants. Is it best to cut down the plant at the end of season or just leave them alone. Can anybody help please.

It would help to know exactly what sort of plant you're talking about--there are several things that are known by that name and I wouldn't want someone to give you wrong advice because they think you have a different plant than you do.

Here are several that go by the name Chinese Lanterns, can you take a look and let us know which one is most like your plant?

There may be others too, these are what turned up in Plant Files when I searched for the common name Chinese Lantern.

I didn't realise there was more than one type mine is the Physalis Frantchetii.

Hi Stuart, I live in Uk, Scotland in fact, I have grown this plant called chinees Lanters, it relly is lovely with it's little Orange lanterns hanging down from the stems, but done no research on it so before I knew it, in 2 years, I had a whole bed full of it, it sends out root runners like it was entering the Olimpics, it really is a very invasive plant and will travel for miles, so be carefull where you plant it, if I were to do this again I would plant it in a large pot and sink that into the garden in the hope it will clump up but the root run will be more restricted, thought you might like to know this. good luck and happy gardening. WeeNel.
