weather

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

How is the weather where you are? Hot and dry here. It has been 100 the last 3 days. Need rain and more rain....gn

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I think I need to go outside and do a rain dance! We haven't had any here in so long I forget what it looks like. Our temps have been around 97 with real feel of 103. When I mowed grass today it felt like a blast furnace out there. And this is only June--what will it be like come August :-(

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Hi there. My brother and his wife did live in Vicksburg MS for a while. They are back near Jackson MS. It was hot here again today but not as hot as the last three days.

North-West England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

We've had a VERY hot May here in the northwest of England. I've had to water my garden every day. This is unheard of at this time of year here. Last night it rained so the garden got a really good soak which it really needed. I love the hot weather as I find our Winters miserable but it would be good if we had more rain at the moment, especially (or only!) at night.

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I always hate to lose a day of working outside to rain but right now I'd take it anytime I could get it and be VERY thankful for it! I just got in from watering more stuff this morning. I will have to spend every day this week from about 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. watering all my new trees, flowerbeds, and veggie garden. Then when I'm done, I get to start all over again. gn63--lot's of folks move from Vicksburg to Jackson because there's so much better shopping, medical care, everything. My daughter and grandkids live here so we compromised and moved to Flowers which puts us about 25 minutes from Jackson so we can use all those medical facilities and shopping. Plus we found a beautiful 11 1/2 acre lot out in the country that we just couldn't pass up. We love it out here. And I'm in hog heaven having 5 1/2 acres of that to "play" on. We left the other 5 acres in woods for the deer and other assorted critters and really enjoy getting to sit on our front porch and watch them.

Midland, WA(Zone 8a)

We've had an unusually long, cool, wet spring here, and NW Missouri has a long spring compared to what I'm used to (DC area and central California). We've had rain every 2-3 days, and are what? 10" above normal (i.e. double) for the year so far? Something like that. In April it's not unusual to have a few nights below freezing here & there, but this year we had 6 consecutive nights below freezing, and the coldest Easter Sunday morning in Kansas City history at 19 degrees. This long cold spell deep-sixed the irises all over the Midwest -- most of them didn't throw scapes at all, and the few that did, many of the flower buds just rotted away without opening. Also, in May we usually have a handful of 90+ degree days, 8 of them last year. This year, as of today, we haven't had any at all. They're saying we might get to 90 tomorrow.

What this means, of course, is I seldom find the grass dry enough and soil firm enough to mow, and the lettuces and other cool-weather vegetables are exploding while warm-weather veggies like tomatoes are dawdling. So the gardeners here say the same 2 things that all gardeners everywhere say: both "Amazing crop!" and "Maybe these'll do better next year."

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Hi all...............Not feeling very well today..We live out in the country on a farm. I rent some of the land out to farmers and hunters. We enjoy living here and like to watch nature. Deer come close to out deck. We have lots of birds and butterflies. All kinds of animals are around here. I have a few things in buckets this year since I am unable to take care of a veggie garden. Tomatoes are looking great and been eating peppers for a while now. I will see I I can show you my tomatoes.

gn63,
Sorry you're not feeling well--hope you get to feeling much better very soon. Living in the country is like a tonic, isn't it?Just before we retired, hubby and I bought 11 1/2 acres out in the country and built a house (did almost all the work ourselves). We just love it out here. Like you, we like to sit on our front porch and watch all the critters. Got a young fawn hanging around right now eating any of my trees and shrubs that aren't fenced. It has even found my sunflower seeds I put on the ground around a small red oak for ground-feeding birds and completely cleans it up every night. He came through yesterday morning around 6:15 right up close to the porch. Of all things, it was curious about our dogs sitting up here barking at it. Came to within about 30 yards trying to smell them to see if it could figure out what they are. I figure it's a fawn that mama has given the boot because she's close to having this year's fawn.

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Yes, probably got the boot. There were 9 near our deck out back. They sure were pretty. The Buck waited until all had gone before he left. He was protecting his group. I do not want them to close as they may decide to eat my veggies and things. The weather is a little cooler today but not much. It was 90 today instead of 100. We are in a severe drought area and need rain very badly.......Enjoy your flowers..........gn

Hi Guy's, WeeNel here in Scotland also had to water the garden in May, best May I can remember, however, some places down England have suffered floods and lost all the stuff from their homes etc, we had a great weeks weather last week, but last night we had to put the heating on, today was baltic cold, I had to get my winter jacket out and the torent of rain has started to flatten all my Delphiniums etc, heating on tonoght, would'nt you know it, last week we started to varnish all the outside of our house, only got 36 windows to go, then we need to get 2nd and 3rd coat on, at this rate we will be lucky if we get it done this year, OH well, Global Warming dont seen to be spreading the warmth where it is wanted, Happy Gardening to to all. WeeNel.

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Good to hear from you, WeeNel. We could use some of the rain and cool air here in the USA. It has been in the 100s this week and sounds like a hot weekend. No rain in sight to help us. Things are looking bad now.......gn

North-West England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hi all, the weather has been very strange this past week. It rained a lot last week and was really cold at night too - I needed a hot water bottle again after weeks of not using one! The weekend has been sunny again so I'll be needing to water the garden again tomorrow if it doesn't rain tonight. However, the ferns I planted out last weekend seems to be thriving - they've obviously had just the right amount of water and sun - I'm very happy about that.

Libby, MT(Zone 4b)

Sorry for all you southerners, but I want some heat! We have been haveing cool weather in the 60's for about 3 weeks. My plants need some sun. They are just sitting here doing nothing. Some of them are yellowing on the leaves because no sun and too much moisture (rain).

I worked outside today pulling weeds and I had a coat on. Send me some sun please.

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

We need the rain so lets swap. We also need a little cooler weather. It is like hot summer here. It is staying between 95 and 100 and sometime103. Some of my tomatoes look like they are baking. It is hard to keep everything watered. We love it here in the South but we do usually have better weather. I am getting my first tomato and it sure is pretty and red. We have had peppers for over a month now. Here is to hoping and praying for rain.......gn

Hi Guy's, just thought of a great idea, why dont we all do a house/garden swap, all you folks that are battling the hot dry conditions come to our place in cold wet UK, you can find out what frost bite is like in June, we from UK can come your side of the pond, watch all your gardens frazzle while we laze around on your sun loungers, does that sound good, well from My side of the pond, it seems a great idea, not too sure you folks would come back to a garden though, well we can always dream a little, Happy gardening folks whatever the temp, we sure cant change it. WeeNel.

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

You are right. We can not change it. We are looking at getting some rain tomorrow and a little cooler. Have a great day.......gn

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

RAIN........YES RAIN We got 1 inch of rain. Gn

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

No rain today but I did not have to water today. That was great. Did pick some tomatoes and peppers. Sure is nice to get a few things from the garden. I like fresh from the garden. Have a good night. gn

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Hi. We had 1/2 inch of rain last night. It sure was nice. The Governor has proclaimed this week as the week of prayer for rain. He ask that all pray for rain for out state. I know prayer changes things so I expect rain this week. I hope the weather is getting better for all........

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)

Banks, AL(Zone 8a)
