Hi....I'm located in the deep south and we are in the midst of a terrible drought. We are under govt imposed water restrictions. In my area we can only water twice a week (by hand..no water hoses or sprinklers). So I try to come up with inventive ways to capture waste water. The plants I have are mostly blooming annuals. My question is...Is there any way soapy water can be used? Thanks for any help.
Plant watering in a drought
Yes soapy water can be used, bath water, hand basin even kitchen so long as you dont have food particles in it, the soap wont harm the roots, it will even help keep aphids at bay, dont use clothes wash powdens from washing machine as these soaps have chemicals addes to them to whiten/clean your clothes, all others will be ok. WeeNel.
Another idea...(we have those same restrictions too)...you know how you wait for the shower to warm up...while it is doing that you will be amazed at the amount of water you will catch in buckets before it is warm enough for you to hop in.In Australia we now have a "grey water system" that channels all the "grey water in the house to a holding tank....we use it on the gardens" but not on the veggies
a word of caution check that the soap products that you use are not
too alkaline as this can cause problems with some plants...as a general rule it really does not cause too many problems and lawns seem to love it.
