Perhaps this option is here and I just don't know how or where to locate it on DG. If so, someone please educate me!
If not, I would sure love to see such an option added to DG. I come across so many good threads or posts that I would like to save somewhere on my account for future reference rather than searching (often in vain) for it again. So much good advice is shared here within this very busy online community!
Bookmark feature?
I use the "watch thread" option to help me keep up with threads I'm interested in. It works for me, and maybe would for you, too. However, there are a lot of them that I don't care to be notified if there are additional posts, I just want to be able to find it again to get that one gem of wisdom from it. I have 969 threads I'm watching. That's a *whole lot* of threads to have to prowl through to find the one I'm looking for. I think your bookmark idea is fabulous. I don't know how it could be best implemented. Maybe if we could have a way to bookmark a thread and add our own personal note so we can remember why we were watching it... I've also seen some journals or diaries that had categories (daylilies, roses, etc) and in each category the person had pasted their links and notated the reason for saving it. That's a fabulous idea, but way too much work and organization for me. :o)
My sentiments exactly. I am also "watching" a lot of threads. And I don't have the time either to add posts/threads to my journal. I want something quick and easy to earmark topics. It would be a huge plus to me!!!
Quick and easy! Yep, that's the idea! We can narrow them down by forum, but so many topics could go in several forums that it's still difficult to find them. I had seen a thread about starting daylily seeds, so naturally, I looked through all the daylily threads. Turned out, it was in the Propagation forum. :oP
I think it would be better if we could just bookmark a particular post...usually in an entire thread it's only one or two posts that we need to actually keep for reference.
It would be nice to have a bookmark option for both ..... earmark a thread or a particular post. :-) Sometimes I want the entire thread and sometimes just a particular post is of interest for reference. :-)
Definitely, both would be best...and since we're asking, a way to give our bookmarked items a "title" would be nice too.
That would be just perfect, threegardeners!!! Let's hope someone (hint, hint) is reading this thread and might consider adding such a feature. I would find it extremely useful! :-)
I have been thinking this would be a great option for a while now. When I "Watch" threads just so I can find them in the future, my "watched" list is really cluttered.
There's a "Custom Menu" tab on the home page that is empty. I wonder if it's going to be used for something? It would be nice to label it "My Bookmarks" that would open into a list of titled subjects we've bookmarked.
Good idea Becky. Hopefully Dave's staff will pick-up on this thread soon and give us his input on space for personal bookmarks.
Hmmm...I'm not seeing that tab.
Dave's staff
I have a staff? :-)
The bookmarks/favorites feature is definitely in the works. It's an ambitious feature, though, but I'm definitely going to create it.
dave
I use this feature a lot. I do it by utilizing "Bookmarks" on my browser. Your browser might call it "Favorites." In any case, I make folders, and within the folders are the relevant bookmarks. Each bookmark is named whatever I want to name it. I do it for a DG forum, thread or individual post. I have Yahoo, but I'm sure other browsers have the same options. I'll certainly move these bookmarks over to a DG-specific bookmarking feature once Dave has it up and running!
Oh Dave! That's awesome!!!!! Thank you! I can't wait see this future added feature. It will get lots of use by me personally. :-)
faeden - Maybe I will do what you are currently doing. Save to my Firefox bookmark and then transfer over when it's up and running on DG. I have soooo many bookmarked links on my system now that I fear having my computer crash and losing everything. I would much rather have it on DG where I would more readily see it, remember it, and probably use it.
THANKS, Dave!!!! :-) :-) :-)
The bookmark feature is ready for testing. To add a page to your bookmarks, click on the folder icon that you see on the top-right hand corner of almost every page of the site.
dave
becky - I'm in the same boat you are. I'm going to test out the DG bookmark feature now!
Oh my gosh .... That was FAST, Dave!!! Holy cow! I will try it out pronto! Whoo Hoo!! :-)
That's super, Dave!! How in the world do you implement these changes so quickly? LOL
Dave - remind us again how to search and find a particular post within a thread, please? thanks!
It is working from my end. Can you possibly do a little tweeking to let us delete a bookmark .... and also possibly add a title comment or is that a bit of an issue to try to do?
It works with both a thread and a post just fine from what I tried. :-)
Nice touch adding Favorites to Your Actions under My Info!!!
NICE!!!! :-)
Well, curiosity got the best of me when I saw that little folder hanging up there in the corner, and I had to click on it. (I didn't know about this yet). It added that page to the bookmarks. I went and did a few things, all the while thinking about that bookmark. I decided to try to get it out of my bookmarks, so I clicked on the folder again to see if I could figure it out, and now I have another bookmark in the folder that I don't want in there.
How do we get them out again?
ROTFL!!!! I kinda discovered that myself! LOL!
I've been noticing this little folder too, great idea becky!
Now I will have to be careful about filling it up too much, like my browser Favourites!
Quick work Dave! All these surprises, I only noticed today the closed forums.
Joan - At this time I don't think we can remove any bookmark. This is a test so that we can give Dave feedback before he makes it all official. One of the suggestions was to allow us to remove and/or rename our bookmarks.
Okay, I skimmed over that part and missed it. Thanks!
I noticed this little folder sitting in the upper right of the page. So I came here to see what it was about.
Of course, before I did that I pressed it a couple of times. Now I have two random favorites. How do I delete a favorite! LOL
I just had to select the little icon to see what it would do. And then I had to select it again.
Or I could just keep them and remind myself not to just point and click everything that is new. I could set off an explosion doing that in real time. LOL
Way to go Dave another excellent improvement. This is one I will use a lot . I have been using my browser bookmark but I really like being able to contain it her on my account.
Being able to do both, remove and rename would be very good. Though I use my diary to cut and paste specific postings all the time or to just the copy the URL address to go back and reference a lengthy posting or site.
I just tested it on a picture that I liked of one of Boojum's iris. http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3550463 which worked great, but it would be nice to have the posting information appear with the picture. Or did I miss it? One thing that is helpful that I tested is that it tells you if you have already entered the item before, so you don't save the same info more than once. I could see having different files, either a general list or better still a customised list (like the status list in the journal) Nice feature. Patti
Dave, you and your staff did good! LOL
You can now edit and delete favorites.
Hmmm... Does the fact that I now have 58 updated "watched" threads, whereas about 5 minutes ago I had none, have anything to do with this? The few I've looked at don't have new posts. They popped up probably just about the time you were posting.
Thanks!
Thanks you, Dave! It's a PERFECT feature! I love it and know EVERYONE else will love it too! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
YOU are the MAN!!!! :-) :-)
Oh my gosh, you are right RainGazer! LOL! Too funny!!!!

Nevermind...I just read your other thread where they were competely unrelated. Sorry to have posted it on this thread.
Thanks for putting up with my aggravation, Dave! :o)
RainGazer, mine too. I thought my puter was on the blink. LOL
Thanks! Dave and thank you Becky for asking the right question!
LOL He started another thread about the database going down right about the same time. I assumed it was connected to the bookmarks. Oops! ;o)
I just thought somebody had *realllly* fast fingers! LOL
Me, too! I was like ...... who can post that MANY posts all at the same time! ROTFL!!!
