Not really, guys, but I do have a couple questions. I bought three "million bells" hanging baskets in, oh, I'd say around April. They're beautiful, and once I figured out how much water they like, I've been having lots of success with them. My problem now is that a) they're getting way too big for the hanging baskets they're in and b) because, I'm sure, of "a", they're starting to look a little unkempt. I tried to split one of them up and managed only to tear the poor thing to shreds; needless to say all the branches were tangled up and there was just no way to separate them out without doing major damage. The ones I salvaged aren't dead - yet - but I don't know if they're going to really come back, either. So what should I do? I can't just keep putting them in bigger and bigger and bigger hanging baskets; they're so heavy now I'm surprised the roof doesn't cave in. Should I plant them in a big container pot or in the ground? Or *is* there a way to separate them out without totally destroying them. I'd love to give one to my neighbor, but so far haven't been able to figure out a way. Anyhoo.....thanks in advance for the advice :)
million bells, million questions
Chrissy in OZ is right, they are not really able to be split up, you now realise why, give them a good haircut now, especialy as they are in a bit of a shock period due to you trying to move/repot them, cutting them back now will take some of the stress from them, good water and liquid feed will help rejuvinate them faster, dont expect a million flower on them till they settle, then will start to put on some more growth, only then will they start to make flower buds again, after that, leave them alone other than plenty water and a feed every week, you should still get a good show from them as it is only June. good luck, WeeNel. P.S. the weight you are experiencing is from the extra wet soil in the larger container, so next year, dont plant so many tiny plants in the same basket, but maybe 2 pots for the same amount of plants.
Thanks guys. I'll give 'em a nice trim (heck I'm due for one myself, now that I think of it - hehe) and see what happens. When I bought them they already had 3-4 plants per container, so I also know not to do THAT again! I'm gonna be a gold medal class weight lifter before it's all over with. Anyhoo, thanks again.....
