Morning Glories 2007 #05

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

A, a special treat to see all of those lovely flowers. You have
some beauties this yr. Thank you
for sharing.
Karen, love the kikyo

I've been gone for about a week..and I can see that a few gardens are producing some beauties!

Joseph, I'm excited for you about your special plants. Half the fun is the anticipation while they grow. The weirder the better for the mutations!

Gourd, nicely documented collection! .....and SOH!

Karen, thanks for the perspective of the Kikyou. I love the durability of these blooms. That extra substance really helps flower duration in the deep south!

Emma was very gracious with some seed that I'm growing this year....some of them were in bloom when I returned Saturday and I saw a few more on Sunday morning before leaving again....

This is Emma's Gray Fog

Emma's Chocolate.....thanks Joseph!

....this must be mixed up seed....as this was labeled Chocolate Silk....I love the evenly distributed gray with no white margin.....definitely from Emma's garden!

Yowser! Gorgeous blooms. Especially love the Chocolate.

Emma's got it going on with the seed pollination!!! Lovely all of them!!! :-)

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks, guys! Emma sure does have a treasure trove of genetic diversity!

This is from seed from QueenB...labeled "small flowered pink", or something to that effect. Stacy indicated that she has grown this by her front porch for years.... It has the nice pink throat... though I believe that the bottom of the throat shows a little lighter color. Non-variegated green leaves, vigorous grower.

Joseph, here is your Q0751....if you look closely you can see a few red spots.... As this is my first year growing speckled plants, I don't know if the number of speckles is variable for a single plant or not. Hopefully more will show up. The plant is doing fine...even survived a rabbit's nibble last week!

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

This is a sampling of one of my "pink blizzard princess" F2 growout. Clearly shows the variability of the blizzard even on the same plant on the same day. This plant has all the typical characteristics of the Cameo Elegance type plants, except for the blizzard flower.

Thumbnail by atenkley

Gee where did the specks of color go? Are you growing other plants of this one from the lot of seeds I sent to you, Arlan?

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Joseph, I planted two of the five Q0751 seeds I received from you, and only had this plant emerge. It is the yellow leaved version of Q0751...but I don't think that should make a difference...unless there are some modifiers (spot reducers!) linked to the yellow gene. I don't see any seed pods yet, and haven't been home to assist yet... I plan to grow it again next year, hopefully both from seed from this plant and from your original seed. I've not had great luck this year with getting speckled plants! ....maybe I have special "no speckles" soil, like Antoinette has the "reverse tube" soil!

I just like the form of this flower, nothing really so special about the color. It is an F3 generation plant from the same original cross as the above blizzard plant. It's immediate parent was blizzard, but obviously carried only a single factor of the Dominant Blizzard...allowing some of its progeny to be Blizzard free. I use the phrase "some of its progeny" very loosely, as this parent plant produced only a single seed...and this is the resulting plant!

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

...this is just a detail study shot of the "nail type margin" this particular plant very consistently produces. Several plants from this line show this...as does my Cameo Elegence.

Joseph, after bad mouthing my speckled plants, I do need to show you that the speckled reverse tube plant is coming along. Here is one of it's flowers from this Sunday morning. I have two plants from your seed growing now, and an identical plant from another source that was supposed to be "Kushiro".

This lightly blizzard Ipomoea cordatotriloba bloom showed up Sunday with the reddish spot in the throat. I have no idea if it is environmentally caused or what. Just thought it was interesting...and I'll be looking for anything else unusual with these plants...

Arlan, I think your speckled flower could be a normal variant as you see no two are alike. Your next flower may be more in tune with the markings. It is beautiful with or without the markings too. I`d wait `n see on this one.

My giant konoko (not from komeri) I bought from someone who simply took the seeds off their vines with no hand pollination. It appears the flowers Are giant..and how!!! But it is a speckled Not. So far there is velvety blue and another blizzard pink one. I still love these so much. I`m going to take a big chance on perhaps this seller did indeed gather off the giant konoko and the seeds are a result of cross pollination by bagging as many as I can of these and doing a big grow out hoping the speckles will reappear in the 2nd gen. If speckles came back in these with the colors like this then it might make some very pretty flowers. The speckled flowers with white picotees I have seen are absolutely stunning.

All the pictures here have been impressive and very interesting.

I`m getting so busy. I need to answer my mail....sorry to any if I`m late getting to it! :)

Oh I love that last one Karen!!

All I have are leaves to show. Here is another claw shaped leaf, they seem to be getting bigger with age.

Here is an unknown volunteer JMG showing nice leaf variegation. I will be able to identify it when it flowers up.

I have started two types of MGs I got in a trade I made with Chinese gardener Xiong. One is labeled purple red, and the other is small purple blue. If they turn out like the first one I will be a happy camper.

Here's a photo from 2005, one of Cynda's eBay offerings - Star of India, taken with my film camera which I have yet to take a photo this year.

Karen, the giant konoko not is beautiful.

Joseph, the claw shaped leaf is interesting.
My Star of India's were open pollinated,
can't wait to see what I get.

Karen. . .
JUST LOVE YOUR GIANT KONOKO NOT.
Very, Very Pretty!

I haven't had a chance lately to look at all of these incredible blooms, but they are all unbelievable!

Gourd,
I'd like to have some of your water *-*
Can't believe all of your amazing blooms. Really Fabulous!

Arlan,
This is a real killer knockout
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/atenkley_1181616408_357.jpg
AND,
What fun to see some of my blooms.
They are all looking pretty much True,
except -
This bloom has a lot more Blue than what I grew last year that had more Purple with Blue Streaks- I really like it!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3604404

This one that I had labeled Chocolate Silk looks like a new sport, or a stray seed. I need to look that up and see where it came from originally. I have had several Gray MGs and this one looks very much like 'Gray Morning Mist', but I can't be sure yet. I would like to see other blooms of this one to see if it is really one I have grown before or yet another Gray.

Your lightly blizzard Ipomoea cordatotriloba
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3604719
is a very interesting bloom.
Nice!
