Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? Part 5

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thread getting long, needed a break from grass cutting lol so hope this works....

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

It worked!!!!!!!

Morning! Having DSL problems so that was my worse for yesterday! The withdrawal is terrible. Still having problems but not as bad.

Best thing yesterday:::: hosing the dog down and watching him have fun!

What I learned::::I think it was divine intervention yesterday because I got most of my plants planted yesterday and will finish the rest on sunday!!!!!!!! Yea!!! But I sure am sore today! Here's a picture of where I was working.

Betty your work is breathtaking. Mine is far from that level but I still enjoy doing it.

You all have a wonderful day and hope it is what you need!

Vicki..sure is beautiful...are you planting a lot of trailers?
Isn't it the worse when you can't get on the system...
With working home today it give me so much time to play, but I have to watch that I can hear telephone..so only certain things I can do..dying to finish grass..got about 1 1/2 done this morning..made sure it was right where the gazebo and new chair is sooo now that I've fed/birds I might sit and listen to the sounds of the water and get a book and read..probably gardening book lol
Have a great day..

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Lovely, Vicki...thinking about doing something like that in my back yard, but the hill slants upward from my deck, so it would be reverse of yours.....AND i have no rocks.....would have to go buy some....yuck, having to buy rocks!

Wonder, you are in my prayers today......always.

And, Betty....send me some of your energy.....I have to deal with the results of a weeklong visit from an almost 3 year old tornado today.....will be cleaning cleaning cleaning all day long!!!!!!
And thanks for starting a new thread......

Prayers to you all today.......and hugs if you need them, will check in with you as the day and my cleaning dictate.
Happy Friday!
Sher

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Hi all!

Betty, where do you get all that energy? Could you please send some my way!!

I will start with the worst yesterday: Flight to Chicago was cancelled and I was stuck in Pittsburg for 5 hours. More worst - Not going to Chicago to visit Summerkid and the UMW RU tomorrow. I am not a happy camper. I keep thinking everything happens for a reason but....

Best: Met a really nice woman on the plane to Pittsburg, we got along like old friends and kept each other company during part of my layover. The airline is supposed to give me a full refund. We shall see.

Learned: The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. The challenge is accepting the change.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hate to hear that for you, bluekat, summer's quite a character and I'm sure you were looking forward to meeting her.

And betty, I like your blue heron. Herons are all over where I grew up :)

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Sher a reverse would be so pretty! I have to walk down to see mine and you could just sit on your deck and enjoy it. No trailing plants. some of that green is thyme and I just pull up what is in the way and keep it trimmed with the weed wacker about twice during the summer.

Sorry bluekat!

Thanks for the complinents!

Gotta get back to cleaning!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bluekat..how absolutely devastating for you..you were so looking forward to going...omg..know there's always a reason but so disappointing..

Taking breaks from working in extreme heat this morning...
brother in law just dropped in for few secs..have the music blarring in back yard..doesn't bother anyone...anyway..I was playing old cd of Jim Reeves...if I wasn't depressed when I got up this morning I sure am now...wow..heartbreaking songs...yuk/yuk so he told me to get myself into the house and put something jazzy on...which I did..lol

Only had 4 calls so they must know I'm working from home...maybe I can talk boss into doing this every Fri. during summer...lots of luck with that...hmmmm

A few weeks ago I purchased a beautiful bird cage...just hung it in a tree and put bird seed in it..wonder if they'll go in it..I'll have to sit and watch...bye again...see you at next break....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Stormy stormy day here......awful. finally lightning/thunder stopped.....big plant over on my deck......doesn't look broken, just over.....and too stormy to go outside to fix it. Pot looks OK, though...so it will be OK, I think. Hope my boys are out of this bad weather, heading north.
House in OK shape for guys to get new mattress, etc into first bedroom....but sure hope they don't bring it in this rain. Maybe wrapped in plastic.
Betty, cute idea for birdcage.
Isn't it funny how we run here everytime we take a break?
Creatures of a fun habit, aren't we.
back to work.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

OH Kim what a bummer.I know Summer as so happy about it. That must have tail spinned your up attitude.

I love that rock terraced garden and wish that color of green exhisted here. WE are in drought years so there is hardly gren period.

It would be cool with the deck and adding a cool view from it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

hello there, got 3/4 of the grass cut..couldn't wait to storm just for 1/2 hr. more...wind is blowing everything...thunder/lightning...dog is trying to get under bed ...lol...hope you are all safe!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought you might enjoy!

I PROMISE MYSELF!!!!!!

I promise myself, to be strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.

I promise myself, to talk happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.

I promise myself, to make all my friends feel that there is something
worthwhile in them.

I promise myself, to look at the sunny side of everything and make my
optimism come true.

I promise myself, to think only of the best, to work only for the best and
to expect only the best.

I promise myself, to be just as enthusiastic about success of others as I am about my own.

I promise myself, to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievement of the future.

I promise myself, to wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a
smile to every living creature I meet.

I promise myself, to give myself so much time to improve myself that I have no time to criticize others.

I promise myself, to be to large for worry, to noble for anger, too strong for fear, and to happy to permit the presence of trouble.

I promise myself, to think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the
world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.

I promise myself, to live in the faith that the whole universe and world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is me.....

Check out what I just wrote on Kay's and my thread part 2.......
said the very same thing about you.

Glenview, IL

Hi All,
My computer is down at home...Waaahhh. So i am at the library for just a few minutes.
Everyone have a glorious weekend.
Paul and Family in my Prayers.
i had a very busy and great day
Worst loosing my comp.
Learned -i don't care for internet at library only get 15 min.
ok by it going down.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Know it's only 8:10 but guess who'se exhausted..

Best Thing that happened to me today was having Kyle (11) and Noah (9) over for lunch..of course having a restaurant (pizza parlor) next door sure helps to entice them...lol

Worse Thing that happened today was getting a call just before 6:30 a.m. this morning from Bernice (next door neighbor) whose daughter and family are going through some pretty horrific times..asked if I could pray for them today..guess they were going to get all their things and DH changed locks and had barracated himself inside the house...so tragic..drugs and alcohol...had it under control for many years and then ????? Told Bernice I had put a prayer thread for them and would certainly pray....she was distraught, couldn't stop crying..guess she'd been up all night...I never visit her home that she doesn't have the bible out praying for someone in need..now it's her turn to need....

What did I learn..not that earth shattering...but, the young lad, I always call him "little boy" when I speek with him..can never remembe his name...anyway my paper with all the sale flyers always was at the end of driveway...rain or shine..anyway, I called him a few weeks ago and gave him $2.00 and said to purchase a treat at the store next door..surprisingly LOL I get my paper delivered to my door, infact, tonight he knocked and said he didn't want to leave it out incase it rained...sooooo cute...worth $2.00 a week!

So, I'm off to bed, storm that passed through brough cooler temps..thank goodness....great for sleeping...

Hope today was special..remember, "If we are ever to enjoy life, now is the time. TODAY should always be our most wonderful day.."
think Thomas Dreier gave that quote....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

this little old lady is tired tonight so this will be short.....
Best: neighbor stopped by as I was cleaning/rearranging furniture, and she decided to stay and help. she is the sweetest and we really had a good time....looks like a different place.

worst: not a bad day at all, except when my boys left this morning and Ethan cried to stay with nana....of course, nana cried too.

what I learned: When people offer to help, accept it. And when you are redoing your house after a loved one has died (spouse) do NOT feel guilty because it is excellent therapy, and my hubby would be glad that I am able to find pleasure in something so mundane. He did not want me to "mourn" but to always enjoy my days. Of course I felt a little guilty anyway....when I moved his chair to a different part of the den, and his books to a shelf in another room. But it all got me through the day.

You are in my prayers....special ones for Betty's friend and family.
Hugs to you...
sher

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Well I guess the best thing was my friend emailing me to come over because she was having a bad day and wanted to be with me while I was waiting my breast ultrasound results.(didn`t get them) but it calmed me, she distracted me all day on purpose. She said I looked thinner the last 2 times she saw me, yeah! then dh said, Babe you look so hot, I`m going to buy you a crate of tank tops like that. Those were the best things.

Worst, not getting good news with a good follow up plan on my lump, or hearing about Betty`s big thunder storm and wanting to fly to Canada to be in it with a big quilt on me.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Funny you should say that Dawn....we had a huge thunderstorm this morning, too.....tree limb broke in my yard, plants blew over....and I wrapped myself in my oldest softest quilt and lay on the couch and watched. was an awesome storm!
Then I went on to work on my house, but I could have stayed wrapped in that quilt in the storm for the rest of the day if i could have.
Nite, now.

Pacifica, CA

evening all,

betty sorry about bernice sending thoughts her way
vicki, the rock wall turned out lovely

best: i got organised at work and went through the pile and cleaned up all the paper work
worst: one computer died with a line of people, had to hand write all the orders only able to take checks only, customers got crabby, our corporate office promised us a new computer on tuesday it was a hour of fustration.

learned:its friday and im going to enjoy the next three days off!!!!

everyone have a safe weekend liz

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

You guys too have a great one, it is quiet on weekends usually.

Shar man I am so jealous of storms. We are in such a drought, it is almost like being dehydrated and every inch of your body longs for water. I may move to Washington or Oregon one day or atleast somewhere pretty, with pretty good weather, not real humid and lots of rain. i don`t think they get much thunder there come to think of it. Back to Ohio I guess.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hey guys..

You know that old saying ' it never rains but it pours'?

well my DD was rushed to hospital this morning for emergency surgery... gall baldder.
if anyone has had that they would know the agony she has been in, begging me to help her and that she cant take it anymore.
they have her pain controlled now and she is awaiting surgery.....
that was the worst thing.

best thing.. being able to be there for her and the children,,,, riley is ok he doesnt know the differnce but chloe is unsure...

will keep you posted.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Was wondering where you were to day, Wonder. So sorry to hear about your daughter's pain....prayers for her and all your family.
Let us know how she is, and about the children.
sher

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh nothing worse than fear of something bad happeninf to your children or not being able to help them. will pray for her and whole family too.

Ocean Springs, MS

Had a good day.
Worst thing: too much to do
Best thing: got most of it done
What I learned: even if I have a graduate paper due by 12:00 tonight, staying at the beach until 9:00 tonight for a hot dog roast with the kids was more fun and got the paper finished by 11:00 and emailed to my instructor
Wonder, got you and your family in my prayers
love to all, julie

Pacifica, CA

good morning all,

wonder prayers are out to you and your family.

hellnzn 11,im trying to figure out where you are, is is near southern calif?

betty, your mighty quiet this morning what are you up to...lol
did silly kitty show up?

well i got my list of garage/estate sales/ free stuff so im off to see if i can do some damage
have a wonderful morning all liz

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Mornin everyone!

I slept last night so can't recall yesterday...lol

It's early, but already:

Best: My Ti plants (cordyline) survived the winter here in zone 7b.! I was not optimistic but tried anyway. I was convinced they didn't make it until I saw some tiny shoots this morning, last year was my first trialing non-hardy tropicals in this zone (I'm young and this is our first home), so I am proud.

Don't have a worst, and am not looking for one on a Saturday..lol

What I learned: Hope is a great thing. Even for little things, cause our lives are really more composed of little every day stuff, and it's still important to have a little hope and take risks.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well hello there, busy/busy morning and aft.
Contractor came and finished everything he was contracted to do..now getting new quote for all the window shutters/closing in and making door for storage area under back deck, finishing back deck enclosure, new back entrance - basement door 7 new windows...and then new house..if lots were not so small nowdays I'd have sold and purchased new one..but I'm in an area surrounded by trees, almost a double lot and in nice area soooo here I stay..

Then my darling aunt Muriel-mother's side (her only sister) works from morning till night in her garden, well she called me over and came back with 3 garbage bags of plants..so got them planted..one is a morning flower...the actual plant leaves look like dandelions, very close to the ground..each morning they've beautiful large yellow flowers which close as soon as morning comes..you must pinch them off in order to have more the next morning...strange...she must have had all total about 80 flowers this morning when I got there..hated to see her pinch them off...

Ran into town, bought a couple more of those loungers..have an outer space name..anyway..thought I needed them...bought some new plants which I badly needed, groceries etc. and now I'm back to finish grounds...having company for supper so will use b.b.q. for 1st time..hate to dirty it..lol...

Soooo I'm off for now..changing from town clothes into garden scrubs...guess what, those two outfits I had brought to me from the USA, one is black with large bright hot pink flowers...anyway..leaving Walmart an elderly (probably my age) complimented me..got to Home Depot and two of the men said my but you look stunning..so guess what, rather than those mini micro skirts some of you are wearing (and we know who) I'll be wearing this outfit to town more often...lol/lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got a D-mail from nap..computer down..at library doing a few posts..misses us all..hoping to be back up sooooooonnnnnn....

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Liz you have mail. Trop. You are right without hope, you may as well be dead.

I have a silk tree seedling that I got at the RU. I think I over watered it but I do not know. If I water it, it looks too yellow and if I don`t the leaves dry up more. I took off all the branches now. Any ideas?

Went for a motorcycle ride and to breakfast allready and renting videos so lazy Sat. the rest of the day unless we go to Church tonight instead of tomorrow.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

That sucks Betty about nap. Do you live near Seattle or Niagara Falls?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm about 175 miles from Niagara Falls ...have you visited????

Best thing..more plants/ company for supper/compliments galore..what more could a person ask for

Worse thing..just very bad dreams all last night...got up with sweats..but shock (?) myself off / put on a smile and day went uphill from there...

What did I learn..son always knows when it's supper time..having his entire house painted, came to store for bags of ice, know what that's for lol..saw the big bowl of veg/mac. and potatoe salad and walked off with the lot..said he'd be back for desert.....what a kid!

So, again I'm tired from a full day of outside work/ planting flowers/cooking (which is unusual...1st time I used the new b.b.q.) so, went next door to variety store - purchased 649 ticket in hopes of winning 37 million (all taxes paid) - magazine..in for a bath, then I'll get comfy in bed, read the book and another day begins...

Hey guys, if I win...you can be guaranteed you'll all be coming to my round-up lol...so wish me luck..wonder, you'll be on your way carrying that new book of yours.....

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Gooo Aunt"B". Yes I`ve been there about 5 times , the last time was in 96, I took my kids and my x. I was thinking that you lived on the victoria by Seattle but then I saw ON and realized it was probably Ontario. I have an aunt that lives near you,I`ll ask dad where, I forgot, some place with a lot of Ukrainians. I have a lot of family in Buffalo too. My grandfather taught music at The University there, my dad lived there when he first came to the US. I lived in Ohio as a kid.

bad today, was realizing in church just how comfortable I live as a Christian and need to do more for God, which was also the best thing as well. Nothing like conviction to make you sink and repentance and forgiveness to lift you up to do better.

Pacifica, CA

evening all,

best: finally found some decent garage sales today
worst : dh not feeling well today his treatment makes him stay up all night cant sleep so he didnt want to do to much, i hate seeing him this way only 38 more weeks of this to go
learned:patience

funny story, this morning it was quarter to 6 i was out in the back yard having my coffee listenng to the birds enjoying the sun rising when all of a sudden this was this big rucus going on over head, it sounded like a couple ducks when i finally got site of them it was a male and female mallard duck being chased by a goose, i never saw such a show the goose flew off to the right but those crazy ducks landed on my neighbors roof across the street, they stayed for 20 minutes walked around then sat for a few minutes
then they took off i ran for the camera dont know if you can see them have a good evening liz

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, beautiful sunshine out there to start my morning..worked so hard Fri/Sat. that I've nothing to do unless I take on a project..have some old barnboard fencing..would like to create a little garden area in a corner of the lot..who know's, that my be my 'today's entertainment' but then it would mean more flowers...aunt who came over just could not believe all I had done in 2 years..beds around house, front near yard, back of back deck, around the pond, under the red oak..said no wonder I was tired and in bed early..lol she's just as bad...so another garden??? Should go get a few shrubs to replace all that catnip I got rid of yesterday...ooops just remembered the 8 bags of soil I picked up yesterday..now there's 1/2 hr worth of work...

Liz, your story was enjoyable..must have been quite a scene..at least your ducks stayed still for photo..yesterday I watched Missy climb on the gardening bench, jump onto the 'winter' birdfeeder' put her head in the feeder trying to find a birdie....by the time I got my camera she was off on another adventure...hope the hubby starts to feel better...what was your best garage sale find...

Wonder, how's your DD doing? Are you coping with the little ones?

Julie that must be difficult, studying and looking after a family..hope you get good grades..what is it you are studying?

Tropicanna, have you recently moved north? Nice bringing plants to new location in a move..makes one feel less homesick..do Ti plants flower?

Hellnzn11...you've migrated almost to the other side of the USA haven't you...has your family moved as well or are they all still here...
lots of Ukaranians in Toronto..I'm friends with a couple..Paul/Bernice Filipchuk..they have loads of relatives in Alberta....many migrate and then form little communities of their own..that's true for most nationalities though..Toronto was high in Italians..more Asian now...

Sharran, what do you have planned for today..still want to see photo of what you've accomplished...bet it's beautiful! That was so nice of your neighbor to drop in and help, were you great friends prior to your loss?

Well, know I've not much to do, but will still accomplish something quite fantastic right? lol
so I'll check in on you all from time to time...

Challlenge...tonight let's see in addition to our best/worse/what did we learn..what did someone do that was nice for you and what did you do for someone that was nice for them?...something to think about right?

Pacifica, CA

good morning all,

betty, i bet your tired after all that work i think my best was the iron fencing im going to plant now before it gets to hot

worst: i can already start on this! on the next street probably three houses up theres is a pacific island family omg the elders have been drinking all night sitting in their drivway playing cards, i dont have a problem with anything their doing but, they cant keep a tune
AND WHO WANTS TO LISTEN TO DRUNKS AT 6 IN THE MORNING THINKING THERE SINGERS.....lol

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz...you hit the jackpot..omg...it will look wonderful..can't imagine what you got that treasure for????

Maybe the family was celebrating something special...

I'm on an up and up this morning...listen to Joel Olsteen and if he was nearby I'm sure I'd attend his ministry teaching each and every day...today was on 'being somebody's miracle' doing a little something for someone...so I've begun my day by telephoning MIL
(don't speak a whole lot since DH died as he had asked me not to see anyone in his condition - so I got brunt of the aftermath..but that's ok..invited her and SIL for lunch or supper..think she wanted to say no, said she'd ask SIL and let me know..I'd be very surprised..but...I made an effort...

Called an old friend to say I was thinking of her...

Raked garbage from alongside of treeline of variety store..about 15 teens were having a gathering..I spoke with them laughed with them but when I went out last evening to the store noticed all their garbage so..cleaned it up..SOOOOO watch out community and friends..I'm on a mission lol...

talk later

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey Betty--actually I've lived in NC all my life except I traveled a bunch when I was younger. We bought this house about 3 years ago and last year I really started to get into tropicals cause I'm from the beach and miss that look. We're in the piedmont flatland, and no one here grows tropicals. Ti plants are not supposed to be winter hardy here, but I was pleasantly surprised :)

Pacifica, CA

hi betty,

actually i got the fence for 20.00 and the odds and ends for 10.00 its 27 feet im short 3 peices but thats ok but then i went to a estate sale and got this planter

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Pacifica, CA

hello all,

best: going to a concert with dh i feel like a teenager lol
were going to see charlie daniels/marshall tucker/outlaws cant wait only 7 hours to go
worst;i trampled down some corn stocks just being clumsy
learned:to just roll with the punches

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'd better start going to sales you go to..what wonderful treasures..and you've planted it already..and I thought I was bad...lol

You'll have to let us know how the concert went..nice to be a teen again
