Show Us Your Water Gardens ....Big Or Small We Love Them All

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

A work in progress. More like an extra large bucket than a pond. Hold 360 gallons, 2 lilies,
1 star grass, 5 baby koi, and 3 plec...something...algae cleaners.

Love it, love it, love it.

Wind is so high today (gusts of 35-40mph) have been checking it regularly to see if it is white capping. lol

omg! Didn't check to see that I have almost taken over this thread already.
Sorry, guys. Will be working the next 10 days so maybe you can get ahead of me. lol

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

LouC - not a problem at, post away, we love the pictures and your postings. Question, does that metal tank heat up the water?

Tampa, FL

Great pond Lou!! An artist's garden for sure....good question judy...i was wondering that myself? Especially if there are fish in it? sue

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't know yet. Have only had it filled for about 3-4 weeks and it has been unseasonably cool and we had over 2 inches of rain again this weekend.
It is mostly under a canopy and just a small part is in part sun. If we have the usual Texas weather of 100+ we may be dropping ice blocks in to keep from boiling the baby koi.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

ice blocks - lol lol I heard that!! (I couldn't help but use that old worn out phrase)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Now I was a little girl when my grandmother and great grandmother had the old ice blocks. In fact, when I was married in 1961 I seem to remember that we had the option of crushed or block ice when we needed it to go to the lake or a picnic. Actually, I have an ice maker and will probably just dump the contents every day or so.

Time moves too quickly and with it our language, of necessity, changes.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Lou

Lordy I'm right about the same age as you so I didn't think it odd you used "ice block" I was just thinking cool down those expensive Koi and I'm the one who used the "old redneck phrase" of "I heard that". Didn't mean to suggest you were using old phrases, please forgive me if that was the way it sounded.

Judy

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

nononononono.......I thought it was great that we recognized the same old phrases. I really intended to see just who would recognize "ice blocks".

And about those "expensive koi". lol $4.58 each at wallyworld. They are just babies about 1 1/2" when I got them two weeks ago. So surprised for the first time they came to the top today when I fed them instead of hiding until I went away. They have grown a little bit but not enough to stand against the doorway and measure like I always did my kids.

Oh shoot! I did it again. I scrolled up a little and there it is all itemized, the total expense of this fantastic pond.

Obvious just what my condition is. repeat,repeat,repeat,repeat,repeat,repeat,repeatrepeatrepeatrepeatrepeat.......

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Part time job starts tomorrow. Dallas' World Trade Center....sit behind the desk and check ID then make badges.....not brain surgeryBUT must be AT my desk by 6:45 am next 9 days....doors open at 7 AM and there will be a rush every day....stay until after 6PM. My stamina lags from what it used to be so I may be in the bed for a week after this experience.

Have to wear black slacks and white or red tops. Got to go finish pressing everything so I will be ready everyday. Don't think I can keep up if I have to do it in the mornings.

See ya later.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Good luck with the job, Christi Lou! You might want to put a thermometer in there regarding temp, but it's pretty shaded, isn't it? Maybe someone with more experience will chime in here...

Brenda

When I was a kid my my mom would freeze water in a quart paper milk container. We didn't have an air conditioner, so she would put the frozen "ice block" in front of a fan. It sure made the air much cooler. I just had to add my ice block memory, lol. Anyone else ever done this?

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

Never heard of the ice block in front of the fan but sure is a thing to keep in your mind for a needy time. Like when the power is out and we're running out little generator :~)

Wow, Mystic!! Another fab. water feature...how creative...lovely, loverly!!! I use that shade of cobalt blue in every way i can in my gardens and ponds. too!!.love your froggie...i have a small water snake that has been a live-in visitor for 2 yrs. now...as i know he is harmless..he takes some of the overflow of swordtail fish...so i don't mind...he has gotten so tame i can gently pull his tail and he doesn't move...it's not everyone's idea of a pet! lol! Gorgeous water fall...alot of thought went into this! sue

Simpsonville, SC

Thanks Weeds.. I thought I was the only one who didn't care if a snake was in there pond...lolol I had a king snake in mine last year for awhile, he was only about 8 in long, and my friends thought I was crazy, I said he's only a baby and will be on his way soon...lolol

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I was knee-deep in my pond last fall cleaning up when I was scared out of my wits by a water snake. After the initial scare, I was quite fascinated by it and the way it slithers on the surface of the water. I never saw it before or after that day though. We don't have poisonous snakes here so I knew it was harmless. But I was still a little leary of wading again!

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

fishknees, wonderful water feature. More pictures please. I'd love to see the context.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

I never tire of seeing your ponds, Fishie! More pics, please!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Somewhere down there are water and fish. The pond is situated at the end of a curved deck where the "Garden Thrones" are. You know....those favorite chairs that we gardeners have the entire garden planned around!?

Love your tree fern. How old is it? Is it in a pot?

Great picture.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It is 4 years old now and in the ground. It's actually tripled the size since the photo. It kicked into high gear this year, not sure why exactly. It also gained in heigth, so now I look underneath it at the pond,

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

WOW! Great ponds there rjuddharrison! Are those ALL water lilies growing in the larger pond! If so, I am impressed you've got that many! Very nice both ponds. And I love the smaller one for the tranquility that it conveys! You've done a very nice job creating that one! :-)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The umbrella plants are from the pond, the spotted ones are Hilo Beauties Elephant Ears, and the rest are caladiums and what not.
