Brenda,

The same offer goes to you, if you can't find it let me know.

Judy

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

You are so sweet, Judy... thank you! I didn't have an alterior motive there, (honest), just had to go back and look again after beckygardener asked about it, I need some purple in my pond! I'll be checking out Lowe's this week! Thanks again!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I really don't mind, but if you can get it at Lowe's it will probably be cheapere than postage. I looked at our Lowe's today and they were sold out of this particular plant.

I love to look at ponds too - they are all beautiful, big or small.

This one's from last year. I changed some of the plants with a Japanese Maple here but I don't have a good picture of it.

Hmmm... I just realized I don't really have any pictures of the pond itself on this computer. Here's one, but it's not the best shot of the pond.

SongsofJoy, I have seen various pictures of your stream and pond on other threads and just never get tired of seeing it. It is just wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing the pics and inspiration with us.

Yes siree! Me, too! Absolutely beautiful and serene looking! What a masterpiece in your yard, Songs of Joy! :-)

Absolutely gorgeous, Songs of Joy!

I guess I have what could be called a water feature rather than a pond. It is 12 days old today. Today's project is to move the rocks and plant some tropicals at odd angles and then place the rocks in a more natural position.
Now just what is "natural" when you have a horse trough? lol

There are 5 baby koi from wallyworld and 3 algea eaters (need to learn the proper name), 2 lillie plants and 1 star grass. Indeed, this is waaaay to small. Just can't get ready to dig up the whole back yard.....yet...

Out to feed Betty Grable and Spot...haven't named the other three.

Lou - I like it!!! Your water trough looka really nice, IMHO! If you don't mind me asking .... how much did you pay for it?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

The trough itself was $109.00 at Tractor Supply. Have gone through 3 pumps/filters trying to find the right one. Think the latest purchased at HD is going to work. It was $99.00. The three plants were $72.00. The koi were $4.58 each. The bottom suckers were $3.89 each. Oh, the pump for the waterfall was $24.00.....and then there is the fish food and the chemical to remove clorine....probably a few other misc. but can't think just now.

Oh wow! Hadn't stopped to think.....over $300.00 so far. Also have purchased plants to go around it and haven't gotten them in the ground yet.

In the grand scheme of things and what an inground pond would be....not counting the digging.....I guess it is a bargain. Already have to check the babies several times a day. The sound of the water is worth it as well.

Probably told you more than you wanted to know. Almost forgot, it holds 360 gallons of water. 2x4x6

Nice! Thanks for the cost breakdown. :-) What's the dimension on the trough? It looks great!!!

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

My ''water feature'' is more a large water hole for the cats. Nigel (the night heron) stands guard.

The other day an iris fell over and looked like an odd lily in the water.

LouC,

Have you looked at UV light to keep down algae? My last attempt at container water gardening worked pretty well, but algae was a problem. It is late enough in the season that I will probably wait till next spring to set up again. However, I am watching your results with delight. I am getting some great ideas from your setup.

SongsofJoy...if you don't have some of those pictures framed and on your wall....you SHOULD! Gorgeous. The stream looks like it could be in the Smokey Mountains. Perfect. Nice job.

LouC...FUN! Good training for when you take the dive into a bigger pond in ground (mark my words...you will).

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Becky,
The trough is 2' wide, 6' long, 4' deep. They had a lot larger size but it would have dwarfed the sitting area where I have it placed. The majority of the water troughs now are built of some sort of rubber....actually Rubbermaid brand. I preferred the galvanized because it is the one of my younger days. Thinking of "smear painting" it so it is not so bright. Will wait to see how the plants tone it down.

Lou - Nice size. I actually like the shiny metal look. It's eye catching even with some plants in front of it! Nice work and great idea! I can only do container water gardens in my yard do to a number of issues, so yours looks like something I might try in the future! Thanks for sharing it! Love everything you did to get it that way. :-)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

gardengus - Cute! Perfect and compact little water feature. :-) The Heron is a cute garden prop!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Lovin' the water trough!!! It really looks great. I agree, I like it shiny, but either way will be great. The rest of your plants, yard and garden look awesome as well!

Gardengus, that is sweet!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

LouC - great idea and very good how you designed the surrounding area.

gardengus - love that waterin' hole

DG has the greatest people on earth. Always compliments and encouragement. Thank you very much. Many of the things I have done I learned in the two years I have been a member of DG. The information freely shared is tremendous. Struggling this year with too much rain...did I really say that? Many plants didn't need quite so much water so fast and have taken a hike. Thank the Lord, the lakes are full again after 5 years of drought. Can always buy another packet of seed.

Oh how cozy and comfortable looking. I could sit there for awhile and if you don't have skeeters, I could probably curl up and sleep through 'til mornin'!!!

Oh yes the mosquitos are ever present. Have discovered liquid Deep Woods Off. Of course it is deet but so far science has discovered nothing better. Read an article last year that say it has never, ever been proven that deet causes cancer or anything else. It allows me to enjoy the outdoors and not stay inside all the time. I have found that this particular one doesn't stink or feel greasy....it is in a pump bottle. I can spray once in the morning and stay out all day without getting bit. Miracle as far as I am concerned.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Lou - Thanks a really lovely set-up! Very cozy and relaxing looking! :-) I aspire to have an area similar to yours! :-)

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Gardengus, I love your little "water hole", you have it landscaped very nicely.

And LouC, is that MOSS I see on your patio?? In Texas?? You MUST have had a lot of rain!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I wish it were. It is dwarf mondo grass between the rocks. Takes a long time to get established and begin to spread. Hopefully it will fill in in my lifetime. lol Have also added some sedum in various places. Last year with the 100+ days for almost a month a lot of it died even with constant watering.....the rocks got so hot it cooked the plants. Gardening in Texas is always a challenge.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Great water features, everyone!

LouC, if this is the kind of fish you were refering to as a bottom sucker, it's called a Plecostomus. :o)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

mgh, thanks, yes that is the one. The fish in the background is beautiful. Apparently you have an aquarium.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks, LouC. Yep, we have a 46 gallon aquarium. That fatty in the background is my fish. LOL We just lost the pleco in the picture I posted. Don't know what happened to it....just died one day. My DH cleaned the tank and we bought another pleco....not as big as the other one we had. We also bought another fan tail and a comet. One of these years I'll have an outdoor pond though. ;o)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

My water feature begs the definition of "pond". All the same we love it already.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

It fits your space nicely, Lou, and looks very nice!

Very ,nice .Are the fish KOI? Looks like they all wanted their photo taken.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Lovely setting. I'm glad to see you have a bench so you can enjoy it! It's so peaceful to watch fish...

Nice job.
