It's beautiful and so impressive. Are you a professional designer? Did you build it yourself.... please tell me "no" so I won't be so jealous. lol lol

I took this pic earlier in the week. It's taken through my kitchen window over the sink. We landscaped on the left side of the pond last summer, this year we're doing the right...if we'd get some rain :~( The blocks at the back end of the pond is the new bog. It's almost finished dh hopes to finish it this weekend. The pic was taken after the ORVG RU last weekend so there's potted plants EVERYWHERE! The pond is 3000 gallons, so far, and is 2 yrs old.

Lana,

Those RU plant trading do result in lots of "pots" sitting around for a bit don't they. lol lol

Your pool is beautiful and it's so nice to see it with new additions under construction.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks, Judy, I always enjoy posting pics of my pond ;~)

WVdaisy - lovely pond.
Judycooksey - not I'm not a professional designer at all. But I do wish I had put in a larger pond -- all ponders do. But, not too far away is a large Palatka holly tree and I would have had to cut a tremendous amount of root system away -- so -- sigh -- I just have a small one (for now).

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

orchid923 - you did a wonderful job of designing and building your pond.

Tampa, FL

Hi judy, here is a pic...tho i am not sure you will see much of the ponds...as it is a jungle..lol!

WOW great pond and plants!! My little one is begining to be way too crowded. Yesterday many plants went on the compost pile, there isn't anyone around here with a pond or I would have been glad to share.

Judy

Tampa, FL

Thanks Judy! I toss lots of plants into a ditch behind this area...now all kinds of aquatics are thriving there...one must be careful in Fla. as many plants that are sold around the country, are against the law to sell in Fla. as they become exotic invasives, in our waterways...i did have a little cottage industry with the local aquarium shops...i would trade plants for fish food....it worked out nicely for both parties...hey, we will be moving to Maryville Tenn. in 4 yrs. (bought some land in a cow pasture lol) We Love your state!!! It is so beautiful...i am sure my ponding will be sooo different!! sue

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Maryville is in the Smokies I do believe I love that area, which is at the other end of the state from us, we live in Southwest TN.

Thanks again for posting the pictures.

How beautiful!!! Your pond and garden flow together in such a way that it gives a great sense of serenity.

It may only be 100 gallons but you've made the most of it. Very nice :~) fits right into the landscape.

Isnt it fun to look at others pond? I could do that all day!

The ponds are all beautiful. Judy...where's yours?

My neighbor and I spent 10 hours in the pond yesterday. It hadn't been revamped in 8 years and a Clyde Ikens Daylily and yellow iris had both slipped their pots and had started to take over. Today the pond looks much different than yesterday. Here is a before picture....

And here's a work in progress one...

I am envious of all the beautiful ponds here. I am not fortunate enough to have one built into the ground. All I have is one of those cheapie HD pre-fab round pond liners. And it is partially above ground. See photo. (Actually I have two of them!)

Any suggestions of how I could make it more visibly appealing? I would like to hide the black liner with rocks or something .... not sure what. I don't want to bury it further in the ground because of occasional flooding back there along my fence. Any suggestions would be so welcome!

The floating fake lily pad is a solar powered water fountain. (In case you couldn't figure out what it was.)

Here's the other pond. Similar in placement along the back fence. The bags of soil and compost won't be there much longer. This container pond is also above ground. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

I'm with rylaff I could look a pond pictures all day long.

We live in the middle of the woods so my little pool is above ground, cheap construction and I love it. We've had it since about 1999 and only had to replace the liner twice, the last time because I was trying my best to flip out a snake who was eating my goldfish ... of course I was using a rake, whatelse does one use if they are startled, need to take immediately action and had it in their hand. lol lol Bob swore he would never startle me when I have a rake in my hand, 'cause that snake sure took a beating.

I like you little ponds the way they are. I'm not creative so some other person will have to make suggestions on camouflage.

Judy

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

I would plant some type of plants all the way around the outside that would cover the container but not the pond. Like some type of groundcover.

I don't know if you can find inexpensive rocks in Florida, but here's what I did with mine. The pond is an old satellite dish.

Becky, I actually like it the way it is too. But I do have a suggestion if you want to hide the liner more. Depending on how far out of the ground it is you could get some of that inexpensive black garden edging and put around your pool and then fill that up nearly level with the pool and plant low growing grown covers like various sedum varieties or ajuga. I would not make it level with the pond, that way you have no problems with soil washing in with rain or watering. The two types of groundcover that I mentioned are very hardy, fill in quickly and will drape over the top of the edging eventually hiding it altogether. They also have the advantage of prolific growth combined with being easy to control.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks y'all! Some great suggestions and I loved the photos of your above ground ponds.

I use a lot of wood as edging and borders for my garden beds. I really like how yours looks Judy! Would you mind telling me what the lovely purple blooming plants are in your photo?

Katy - Yours is amazing using a satellite dish and all those gorgeous rocks. I wish I could afford to do some rocks, but here in Florida it is very expensive to get rocks that beautiful!

I had originally thought about putting plants around the outside of the pond, but I am worried that it might make it hard to get to the ponds to clean, fertilize, and remove unwanted things out of the ponds without stepping on all the growth around it. I do have Canna and ditch lilies growing right next to the left of the one pond. You can't see them in the photo. And it looks very pretty! But I still need walking area around the ponds.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Becky - it's Purple Pickerel Rush. Survives our winter just fine and I love the booms. I fished it out of a bog area next to a river in our area. It is sold at our Lowe's.

Judy

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Judy. I am going to see if I can find some at my local stores/plant nurseries! Very striking!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Becky, if you can't find any locally let me know and I'll see if I have a plant small enough to mail to you.

Judy

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh! Thanks Judy!!! That's so very generous! I really appreciate it. How fast do they spread? I'm not sure if I need to buy quite a few or if just a couple will do. What do you have them growing in? Are they actually sitting in the pond or next to it?

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

They don't spread "too" fast but they do get big. They are planted in a pots which are sitting in the pool. To give you an idea, what you see in the picture have been in the pool since 1999 only a few offspring have been sent to people.

Judy

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Judy - Thanks for that information. Now I have to rethink my idea. Maybe I can put down a shallow bowl and then sit some potted Purple Pickerel Rush in it and fill with water. My pond container is concave, so I don't have any room for it in there.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

You could also use a bit of liner or thick plastic and dig a hole in the ground, line with liner/plastic, backfill with dirt, plant your bog/waterloving plant in it :~) We got water in our bog yesterday, still have work to do but have a few things planted so far. Here's a pic, sorry it's so yucky was taken just before dark last night.

Good idea! Nice pond and bog garden, Wvdaisy! Are those lotus you have growing in there? I have 2 lotuses currently in large pots. (They are dwarf culitvars.) And one that has been trying to grow, but has something killing the leaves as they sprout. But it's hanging in there. I don't keep plants that I have to baby too much, so if it dies .... it dies.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

Thanks. Yes, I have Momo Botan in the pond and just planted a huge Lotus, cultivar unknown, into the bog. I've seen this one grown unpotted and can't wait to get those huge leaves and blooms!

Lana

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nice!! I have Momo Botan, too, Baby Doll that is struggling, and something called Red Scarf. All smaller lotus plants. First time growing them for me, so I haven't seen the blooms in real life yet! I was thinking about adding the water pots to the same bed as the container ponds. I think I have room to sit them in the back to the right of the ponds. What do you think? Would it look too busy with another container there? They would sit on the dirt, so they would be higher than the pond.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

I love seeing everyone's water gardens and ponds!! Also love that purple pickerel rush, I'm going to have to see if I can find some of that in these parts!
