I NEED A ALLIGATOR PLANT OR BABIES
Hi JOEY35, really sorry but never heard of a plant with that name, do you have a pic to post here, or even some discription so others can come in and try help you. WeeNel.
I've never heard of Alligator Plant either! And, I live in Florida where there are lots of Gators, the scaly kind that live in the water as well as the University of Florida Gator's!
It's a new one on me too. Be interesting to find out what it actually is.
I did some googling and I believe this is the plant also referred to by some as "Alligator Plant". It's also called "Mother of Thousands". Here's the link to Plant Files - there are a few different ones ... one also called "Jaws of Life" is really neat looking!
That very first one is growing wild at the edge of a wooded lot across the street from my house! It spreads like crazy down here in Florida, those little babies (teeth) fall off and take root!
oops ... forgot to paste in the Plant Files link:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=mother+of+thousands&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search
It is the sort of succunlent looking plant with all the little babies growing along the edges of the leaves, right? They are tiny little plantlets with tiny roots, they fall off of the mother when they are ready and down to the soil were the start to grow. I always heard of them as "Alligator Tears"
Mother of thousands what i to am looking for in Georgia they call it the pregnet plant..alligator tears sounds the best..
JOEY35 who was looking for this plant has never posted again, so maybe he found it somewhere. I'm pretty sure what he is looking for is in the Bryophyllum family ... Mother of Thousands, Alligator Tears ... so many different names for the same plant. It does grow wild in places down here.
I had one as a teen, and loved it! I read that it's invasive in Florida--maybe one of you Fl. members can send her some.
Joey
I just order a alligator plant also know as mother of thousands from E bay for 3.99 plus shipping.
I live in Ga and none of our garden centers here in town had ever heard of them.
I have several I just grew from the babies of my mom's plant. I live in Brunswick Georgia so if anyone wants one.....I have 8 ready to go. They are SO EASY to grow and grow super fast.
Email me at cindy722@bellsouth.net if you are interested! I'll send you pictures of them.
i have an alligator plant.... i dont know much about it. looking for information on how to care for it !
i'll take a picture of it and post it soon.
i just happened to see this thread and i doubt there will be a problem with joey because he/she seems to have disappeared but be a little wary of anyone who posts who is not a subscriber and right off the bat asks for plants....not really the way things are done here on dg.
There are Baby Alligator Plants on ebay. Item # 170282662691. There are others also.
I am new here and i wanted to see what an alligator plant was . Well to my amazement it is a plant i just recieved in the mail from Hirt's Gardens (bad reviews) it came packaged well but it is top heavy and the little pot is full of new babies from the mother . i fell in love with it when i learn more of this plant i will share it with dg members . Just dont know much about the plant or dg as of yet.
