How did you do this? :)

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh, great, Dave, thanks! Glad it wasn't the new feature causing the slowdown.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Just to balance out a log of the negativity, I have been seeing positive comments about the new feature from folks who haven't come here to post....thought you'd like to know.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

It's gone? I have to say that I really liked it. I found several threads I had missed when doing some research in Vegetable Gardening this morning on tomatoes.

Didn't think it could slow down a site because before we had the last 10 posted threads and that didn't slow it down.

Anyway, I found it helpful and also just plain fun as it brought some folks to mind I'd not thought about in awhile.

Dea

It wasn't slowing the site down, but if it upset a lot of people then it's not worth the enjoyment that it provided the few that liked it.

Making it a preference option is too much work when I have other items on my TODO.

I dont really like the new feature. Perhaps if there was SOME similarity to what I was reading before-but I havent had any interest at all in any of the suggested posts that have come up. I feel it would definately help if there was an on/off button for it, If I want to go back to really old posts, I can do a search.

IMHO, I think there is going to be alot of really old posts resurrected that are probably better left where they are.

That's kind of what I thought. We get a new Coffee and...thread every day, can you imagine how often that is going to get selected at random? At least the non subscribers can't read it.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Ah bummer...I'd like to see it tweaked a bit .

One of the good things about it was it brought up old topics & photos that newbies would not see otherwise.. that was a good thing in the AVforum.

No biggie..

I'm not sure I understand why people were upset with it, in Prayer requests I can understand why you might not want to bring up potentially painful memories, but in any of the other forums if you don't like it you could just ignore it so I don't see the problem. Dave I hope this won't discourage you from continuing to try out new fun features!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

That was my thought too. If it could be tweaked to suggest threads on the same topic, it could be a useful tool. Skip the 'personal' forums like Prayer and Parking Lot, etc.

Maybe we'll try again sometime later, but only when I am ready to spend some time tweaking it.

I'm sure you have enough to do w/o listening to us banter .

Did you ever do daycare in a previous life???lol

ThanksDave

Starkville, MS

I wasn't upset about it!

I understand now that a server being down was the main cause of the slowed response, but I still maintain that this new feature would be better offered as an "on/off" feature rather than as an absolute.

I would hate to be considered as a negative subscriber - I have only kicked in to state an opinion. As for ignoring it, I do. I just would prefer the option to turn it off and go my own way.

Thanks, Dave for working so hard to give us so much! Please don't quit trying to keep this site the BEST ever!!! You have given us so much - we tend to think that you can do it *all*!

love ya,
ginni

Dave
Thanks so much for always being willing to listen to our opinions. I was mainly concerned about the clutter, and reserrection of old unrelated gardening threads. I appreciate all you do to make this a wonderful site.

Thank you, Dave.....

Dave's the MAN!!

Thanks, Dave!

We appreciate you.

Thank you Dave. My pages load faster now.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

If the new feature wasn't what was slowing the pages down, then my only real concern was the difficulty that it provided for a visually impaired subscriber. I'm capable of ignoring it. But I also agree that it could be useful if it could somehow be tweaked to be more relevant.

I really appreciate that you care about how your subscribers feel.
Thanks so much. If you bring it back please make it optional.
You're the best.

It is so rare nowadays to find a place where "management" really listens....Thank you so much!

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

I liked it. I miss it. I found some really helpful threads.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Earlier today I saw a similar link to other FORUMS at the bottom of some pages - though this one doesn't seem to have it. I think that's better than the list of threads because linking on the forum will bring up a list of current threads instead of reviving long dead ones.
Ann

Ann, I noticed that too!

I think I only saw it once, tho, and not sure what Forum I was in!

They are at the bottom of the home page. Where the threads you are watching and your favorite forums are listed.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I like the new feature as I told you this week you just keep making things more interesting for all of us. Cindy

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Now that's pretty fast tweaking!!!
Cool...you're the tops Dave!

Having been around here for a few years now, I think there were about 400 members when I joined, and having watched the growth and expansion of Dave's little garden website, I have to agree, Dave does listen to us. We ask for things and he invents them, how cool is that!! We see problems and he fixes them. He probably doesn't always agree with us, but he does work hard to keep us happy. Thanks Dave, we appreciate you more than you could ever know.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I see you're a real old-timer, Mary.

But you're right. I've only been around about 2 years but I've certainly seen it too. thanks, Dave.
