How did you do this? :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Or am I late in noticing? When I posted something to a thread in Parking Lot, it came up at the bottom with "Other Parking Lot Threads you might be interested in"

That's pretty cool!

Dea

Neat feature, eh?! :) I'm experimenting with adding little features like that at the bottom of pages. When you get all the way to the bottom of the page, I figure it's nice to have something new and interesting to click on.

I just noticed it myself and I like it too!

I just noticed it too and came to say how wonderful it is!!!! Dave's Garden can never leave us.......

Dave,

What criteria are you using to determine which threads come up?

got2Bgreen, it's 100% random. :) In fact, each time you reload the page you'll see different threads.

I like it!

Is there a time parameter?

I see one of mine was started in 2003. I'll have to click on it to see if there are current posts.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I think the general concept is neat but would prefer if it were threads that were somehow either related or current. But I guess that would be very difficult to do.

I just noticed it ,too.
I like it & think it might be a cool feature but I wonder about if it could be made related to the forum you are on . I also wonder about the issue of it bring up old threads that might need to stay "dead"

Some threads just need to stay buried..lol

You amaze us with the cool feature you add!!!

edited thought process. :)

Very cool feature, Dave! I really like the randomness. Cyndie

I like it, too. Thanks, Dave!

LOL

I just asked this question in Coffee and.....(Parking LOT).

I thought something was wrong with my computer, or maybe it was malicious spam.
Am I paranoid or what?!

I'm glad to know that dave did it-I can rest easier now.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Personally I dont like it much...I feel I can judge what I might be interested in myself..

...but thanks anyway...

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I'm with earthling.

And I can't say for sure that it's related, but ever since about the time I noticed them, I've found DG pages take a long time to open. My hi-speed lite is not particularly fast but I know there are quite a few who still have dial-up. It the random generation of those links is slowing down the page opening, I especially don't like it.

I don't like it at all. All of those are old business and we've already covered that. I get aggrivated when someone starts asking questions about things that happened 2 years ago. Is there a way I can disconnect it?

Also, don't you lose your reply if you go to one of those?
Is that what's slowing DG down so much?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

DItto.

I really dislike when a old thread gets started up a year or more later, rehashing the same old stuff that was already discussed and sometimes ad nau seam. ( mostly because most peeps do not want to read 'all' previous postings).

Bad Idea IMO ☻

Waaaay Cooooool new feature.....thanks Dave!

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

In general I'm kind of neutral --- would probably not even have noticed it if others hadn't started commenting. Can't see myself ever using it. What puts it into the negative camp for me is that it is apparently giving a lot of grief to one of our visually impaired members.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Maybe Dave can make it so that each person can decide if they want it displayed. Maybe put it in the "My info" area under "preferences".

☺☺☺ Great idea got2Bgreen ☺☺☺

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I think if the posts were selected because they contained content that was related or relevant to the thread I'm reading, that could be helpful and fun. Kind of like the way Amazon does the "other readers who selected this book were also interested in...."

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Would be good to have an option.
;)

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I can already choose to "watch" threads that interest me. I'm not sure what the point is to having such old threads resurrected.

My two cents worth,
June

I agree ... I'd like an option. It seems to clutter up my screen. :)

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

....but this is NOT Amazon....

I read the ...coffee and....daily, and have no need to be referred back to old episodes of it. Same with the rest of the forums...if there is something that interests me, I will read it when it is new and fresh, not yesterday's news..

...but thanks anyway.

Well, I like it. :-)

I like it, too. :o)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Seems like it's slowing down the page loading quite a bit. I mark the threads I want to follow, and don't care for a random selection of other threads which are not of interest.

Starkville, MS

My server is slow enough without this added feature.

I am not particularly interested in going back to 1 or 2 or 3 years ago at the expense of the loading time. If I want to return to the past for something specific I use the search feature.

If you can install the "on / off" option it would be great. I could turn it off and others who enjoy it could still play.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

I agree with tgif!
What do you like about it Dave and why?
;)

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I agree with tgif and sugarweed. On/off option would be great. I'd choose OFF!!

Susan
=^..^=

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

My slow dial up was slow enough to load before this was added. How about making it optional, something like a box to check if we would like to see additional related threads displayed? Some of our threads take 3 minutes or more to load on my computer as it is.

Sorry, Dave!

But, I vote for OFF, too. I post pretty often, and altho I've looked at them each time-have never been tempted to go re-hash things.

I'm on cable, but it still seems to take longer for pages to load.

Can we have an option to choose, since it seems some love this idea.

Thanks, Sashagirl

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

I actually like it. Although I'd prefer them to be of threads I haven't viewed in a while, it does remind me to look at other threads and visit other forums.

I'm fine with it.

I, too, have noticed that DG is awfully slow lately, and I have DSL. If what's causing it is this new feature I would also like the option of turning it off. So far I've seen nothing that interests me and I certainly would never be interested in 2-4 year old threads.

Marilyn

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I like the feature as long as it's not what's been causing things to be slower lately and from reading the other thread it doesn't sound like that's what is to blame. I know some people are concerned about resurrecting old threads, but I don't necessarily think that's bad, I've only been here for a few years so I'm sure there are some threads from the past that have good info and I might learn something that I wouldn't have otherwise. And it's pretty easy to ignore it if you don't want to look at it.

The slowness is the result of a server crash from last night.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

My DG is much slower also. And I would prefer not to have the feature if it's just random. I know it's not pertaining to the thread just viewed or posted to because I just had a Prayer Request thread in my list that was the thread abt dear Doris's passing. I found that to be inappropriate and I would request that Prayer Request threads and Parking Lot threads be excluded from the random list. I don't feel the need to reread our ramblings from year's past. I can see that some threads abt the same topic discussed in the current thread/post could be useful.
