Planting Mountain Laurel

I recently purchased Kalmia (Mountain Laurel) along with azaleas (one of Northern Lights series) . I have not grown either before so this is a new adventure. There were specific directions on preparing the soil for azaleas by mixing in peat moss but none for the Mountain Laurel. Was wondering if I should prepare the soil for the latter in the same way. Discription said that it likes acid soil and is like a rhodedendron but wasn't sure if that was by appearance or plant need. Also the directions for the azaleas said to mix the peat moss in area two feet across and two feet down. The azaleas are less than foot tall with small root ball and the Mountain Laurel is just a little taller with slightly larger rootball. Just read post here on azaleas and WeeNel noted that they are shallow rooted so was wondering if I needed to dig the whole two feet deep. Also have read that both are slow growing. About how many years will it take for them to grow to their mature height?

I would prepare the soil for the Kalmia the same way as for the azalea, they both like similar conditions. As far as how far down to amend the soil--even shallow rooted plants the roots are going to end up going down a couple feet so I would follow the directions, their roots may not go down 2 ft right when you plant them, but when they do go down farther you want them to still be in soil that will make them happy. Sorry can't help you on how fast they grow.
