Pirl's Photos of container gardens Part 2
So glad to see this thread continued!
I just ordered one of these containers because I thought it would be so perfect to keep a new little herb garden, really neat. The one I purchased has 4 tiers and is about 24" in diameter. It's looks a little plasticky (is that a word? hehe), but did I read on this thread about paint for plastic pots?
Has anybody ever planted one of these?
Kat - now that's a cool container. Haven't ever seen one of those before.
Oh good N2 - Sometimes I feel like I've been living under a rock when I see some of the incredible things people plant and plant-in, on this site! hehehe
Cool pot Kat; where ever did you find it?
Patty
I thought that too Patty!
I think it was Pirl who mentioned a rail planter on the first thread. I went on an internet search and came across these. They have them in all different sizes ranging from 12" - 24" and they can be stacked 7-10 high. They also have a self watering system in them also.
Some clever lady from NJ invented them and they listed different places to buy. Hammacher Schlemmer was one, but this place had them on sale for nearly $30.00 less!
The balcony/rail planters look cool too!

Gee, just when I thought I was running out of space...I'll have another 12 pots to plant! hahaha (taking up the room of 3 (wink)) :)
Kat - you'll have to show us yours when you get it. Thanks for the link.
Are there any Northerners who can comment on Angelonia or Gaura? I bought both and they're both new to me.

Finally found the perfect pot at the perfect price. Sams club discounted this one for me by half because it was damaged at the top. I paid 17.50 for it and its huge. I needed the perfect pot to put these in next to DH's garage so he wouldnt make me move it. I just did this today so its not as nice as it will be later. It has Praying Hands hosta, red astilbe, begonia Wink, Red Dragon sedum, vinca vine, a new guinea impatient and a neat coladium that didnt come with a name.

I have had Gaura twice and not done well for me. The first one was gorgeous for about 3 years and then nothing appeared one spring. I replaced it and it the new one died that year. I asked my local nursery specialist, whom I trust, and she recommended a sunny dry location with good drainage. I said I had that and she stated that my soil appeared too rich. I add a lot of compost to my soil and Gaura likes sand. She said they do well near beach edges and rocky areas.
I personally think it is one of those plants that either likes where you place it or not.
I bought another this year (I think they are great) and planted it in a planter on my patio in the sun. I hope it makes it.
Good luck to you!
Nice arranging Dravencat
I like the combinations Dravencat. Very pleasing to the eyes.
Janet
D-Cat, Lantana.
rsquared- guara is native to the SW USA, I am surprised when people say it returns at all in northern gardens. TX does great with that plant, CA too.
Anyone know why they added the 'Other threads you might not care about' field at the bottom? 2002, that is a pretty dated thread/information. But I guess if your a true 'surfer' it would keep you interested.
Dale,
Dave added that feature today. It choses completely random threads. Each time you refresh, it will put different threads there.
I think it's pretty neat because rarely do I ever have the time to go back that far. Interesting things I might never see come up. The key is remembering that some things may be "dated". I've only been on Dave's for a year, so I bet there have been some excellent ideas that I haven't seen yet.
Pretty photo you have there. :-)
Janet
phughes and Janet, thank you.
Dale, (smacking my head) yes lantana, thank you!
Ive had a clump of guara in my front yard for about 4 years now, it came back great this year but I also have alot of sand in my soil being as Im right off the Chesapeake Bay. Maybe the sand is the key because I bought it as a very small clump and now its about 2 feet or so around and thats with splitting it for trading.
OK, Patty!!!! Remember you are going to help me make lemonade out of lemons next week on my front porch with me.................glad you are scouting around for these great photos!!!!!
I’ve been a widow for almost 13 years. I’ve dated this very sweet and wonderful man for about the last 2 ½ years. He know’s how much I enjoy my garden. Came in tonight with this big box…
We were on a plane a couple of weeks ago just browsing through the Sky-Mall catalog and I guess I said…that’s really cool! So wierd, as I posted the other planter info earlier today that I just happened to see at the same time, and nearly ordered this one!
This is my new planter!!! Love it! Upside down Tomatoes!!!
What do you think I should plant on top?
This is just pure fun!!! Can't wait to plant it!!!
Sounds like you'll be needing some gourmet lettuce to make a nice garden salad. :-)
What a sweetie!
Yeah or herbs. That planter is really neat and your absolutely right what a wonderful sweet man!
How cool is that Kat ! Sounds like you need to keep this guy. What a thoughtful thing to do for you. You need to get to planting and show off "your" new planter !
I vote for the herbs - in FL, prostrate rosemary would be perennial and maybe drape down a little.
He's a keeper, Kat.

Are those yours, Dale?
Dale, did you design those poor tortured phallic topiaries? Do you just maintain them? I like the white lilies coming out of the white boxes - they look clean and fresh. I always think of FL as humid and muggy and with people running from one AC to the next. Those white lilies look like one could stand to be outdoors.

Corkscrews! Of course! And here I thought they were simply tortured. Silly me. If you worked for Disney, would you do whatever you were told? I've known people who worked for Disney, paid mostly in free impatiens and petunias, lol.

ladies and gentlemen, lend me your ear.....just because dale posts professional jobs, we still want our homemade containers, por favor!!! (no offense dear dale)
gail
beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, but I get gessie's point too. They were selling plants quite like that at the high-priced grocery store. [Of course, the one we go to, near our house, sells wilting geraniums.] I still adore Dale's posts, and teasing Dale makes my days so spatial, I mean special.

Do ya think, carrie, that the rest of us don't adore dale????...................we do.......we just have to give him a hard time!!!!! Can't pamper HIM?????
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous Dale! Love the Calibrachoa...mine is not doing so hot these days!
Planted my new Upside-down tomato planter tonight...Was going to do herb's on top, but succumbed to Flowers and vines as I plan on doing herbs in the newly orderered "stacking planter" I posted earlier in this thread.
There are 4 holes for tomatoes so I figured I would try 4 different varieties to see which does best - Bonnie Select, Early Girl, Roma and Marglobe - an heirloom tomato. May have overdid it in the flower department though - Angelonia, Sunpatience, Coleus and the coolest sweet potato vine that is a sage green color with a little pink going through it! Tucked a couple little basil plants in the back though. The top planter is 25" square and about 10 inches deep, so hopefully there will be enough room.
Hopefully, everybody gets along!
