I think it was Pirl who mentioned a rail planter on the first thread. I went on an internet search and came across these. They have them in all different sizes ranging from 12" - 24" and they can be stacked 7-10 high. They also have a self watering system in them also.

Some clever lady from NJ invented them and they listed different places to buy. Hammacher Schlemmer was one, but this place had them on sale for nearly $30.00 less!

The balcony/rail planters look cool too!
