Early Blooming

I planted some store bought Oriental Lilies (in full sun). It seems that they bloomed really really early. all my research indicated that they should have bloomed mid summer?

Something I did or a product of first year planting? I am almost sure they will not rebloom...but can they?

They have already bloom and they petals are all spent.

Glad that you got your blooms, but they will never flower this year again, these are bulbs, and they only flower once every season, so you have that to look forward to next spring/summer, for now, just let the foliage die down naturely, add a little fertiliser around the bulbs as the greeney and plant food will help build up strength for next years blooms, once the greeney turns yellow, you can remove it if you like things really tidy and put a marker where the bulbs are so you dont dig them up as they should stay under ground all year, they will eventually grow more bulblets and soon you will have a bigger clump of lily's. hope this helps you, good luck. In your opinion, did they bloom early? Seems to me that they bloomed a lot earlier then they should have.

Nurseries generally force all flowers to bloom early, so when you are wandering through the garden center you will say "gosh, what gorgeous flowers!" and snatch the plants up. The reasoning is you would be less likely to buy them if you had to rely on a picture of what it would look like in a few months.

So yes, they did bloom early, no, it wasn't anything you did to them, and sadly you won't have any lilies flowering in mid-summer this year, but next year you can look forward to those beautiful blooms (at the right time). :)

Wow...I did not know that ... but it makes alot of sense. Thanks for the info...and the reassurance that next year the will bloom at the right time ;)
