Hello DGers. You may remember initial pictures of the cage we built around our garden. WELL...here it is finally finished. It took two weekends to put up the frame and the entire memorial day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday AND Monday), as well as eight hours yesterday and three and half hours today to till, put up the chicken wire, put in a walkway under the door, and zip tie the chicken wire closed (so there won't be any gaps for the critters to squeeze through). Hubby and I are TIRED. Here is a picture my hubby took this morning as I was burying the chicken wire (4 inches under) and doing the last of the zip ties. I also got the corn planted and will get the rest of my stuff planted today or tomorrow.
I will take more piks once everything is planted. I can truly say that this stressed me. I was worried about my plants getting root bound.
Here it is!!!
FINALLY
Also, hubby had the idea to attach a sprinkler hose to the ceiling. It is SO cool! All I have to do is turn the water on and it sprays from the ceiling and the sides. That's the black hose that you see hanging down the side.
I have to say that I feel truly blessed to have this garden. I am praying for a bountiful crop this year, even though I got it started late.
Oh that's wonderful! May I email your photo to my husband? I want something very much like this.
Sylvi...go right ahead....
Garden6....let's hope not! If they burrow under 4 inches of wire underground, then they can have at whatever's in there! :o)
Noobie~ That garden cage looks great. WOW what hard work. I bet you are really tired because you can tell by your pic you spent a lot of time on it. What kind of critters are you trying to keep out? Have you had a lot of problems in the past? I have never seen a cage like that before. You must have some big critters there. LOL
Not big...just persistent. Squirrels mostly and rabbits. The squirrels destroyed over 70 ears of corn last year. No matter what I tried to keep them off they just kept coming back. So hubby built Fort Knox for me. :o) LOL.
I am so glad that I don't have a squirrel problem here in Stansbury. I hear a lot of gardeners having problems with those pesky critters. My pest problems right now are slow moving slugs and snails. They eat all of my lettuce at astonishing speeds. LOL!! It sure looks like you are going to win this year. I am looking forward to your pics of your garden when it is planted.
Lissy...it is all planted and I am going to take piks later today. I squashed a slug that was trying to slither his way to my newly planted lettuce. We have so many squirrels and rabbits and birds in our neighborhood. It's like wild kingdom out there and I don't understand it with us living only about 20 minutes from Baltimore.
Bad news...I lost the corn. I guess I waited too long to get it in the ground. Good news....I had plenty of corn seed and someone at a local nursery says it's not to late to plant seed, so I planted a whole bunch of corn seed. Can't wait for it to sprout! I'm so impatient! :o)
I have even come up with a new name for my garden: Anointed Gardens. I pray over my garden and my plants every day. While I was planting the name came to me. I pray the Lord provides me with a bountiful harvest.
Great Job on your "Caged Garden". Are you planting just veggies or will you have flowers also? I will say a prayer for your Anointed Garden and wish for you a very bountiful harvest! The Lord is Good, he gives us all what we need.
I look forward to seeing your photo's as your garden progresses, and your plants grow and thrive!
Congrats to you and your hubby on a job well done!
I'll be able to get better piks once everything really starts to grow and get bigger. I am praying for a bountiful harvest. I am growing:
watermelon
cantaloupe
honey dew melons
pole beans
corn
eggplant
cukes
maters (cherries, plums and big boys)
collards
lettuce
peppers
Looking Good!!!
One thing I have to say....you're one determined woman!
Thanks Melody! ;o)
Garden6 if you make the trip from Kansas you may have whatever you like!
Sounds good to me! I'll save you a basket with a little of everything!
