Bleeding hart bush

I need to know if this bush will survive the winter outside. I don't know too much about this bush.Thank you for your help.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I don't know what zone you're in, but the bleeding heart plants are pretty hardy--at least to zone 4 for sure. I'm in zone 5 and my plant will die back in the summer heat but will start from the ground up next spring. Each year it gets a little bigger with even more blooms.

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

Your Bleeding Heart should be fine as stated above, but if you are really worried about GROUND FREEZING, then lay a mulch over it in the autumn and that will give extra protection, but they are fairly hardy Perennials, they do flower very early in spring and some people actualy miss the flower due to this, but the leaves are lovely too, they really like a dappled shade position and moist soil for the best results but I have friends who grow them in full, all day sun, and they do ok, prob because they are well established plants, Happy Gardening and good luck. if you are from NJ my guess is you are zone 6... my bleeding hearts are in different spots some full shade some part shade.... the one in full shade is huge... going to have to "try" to split it up next spring

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It depends on what kind of bleeding heart you're talking about--if it's Dicentra then all the above info is correct (but I never thought of it as a bush, more of a perennial), but if it's Clerodendrum thomsoniae or C. splendens (which are really more like vines but can be sort of shrubby) then it's going to have to come inside for the winter.

some people also call a fushia a bleeding heart, in which case it is only an annual. Could you post a pic for us and give us more info to your locale?
