Wonder, we call them rakes, but they must be scared of me, I get no fight from them. :)
Darius, still thinkin bout you, lady, hope you're feeling better.
Best: 2 days of rain in a row. Around here, that's enough said..lol BUT, I also mulched yesterday, and it seems like every time I mulch a dry bank we have, we get torrential rain and it all slides down. It rained hard and the mulch stayed put for once.
Worst: Not sleeping well last night, which actually wasn't so bad, I'll sleep good tonight.
What I learned: Apparently I don't look right in stripes, at least that's what DD told me. She said "That shirt doesn't match you", today. I thought it was kinda funny
Best Thing/worse thing and what did you learn today????? #4
Good evening all...rainy day here again today..all those plants I planted on the weekend will love the burst of energy they are receiving..now for the sun....
Best thing that happened to me is being here 1/2 hr. while the girls came painting..hated to leave them..wanted to sit and paint as well..but, went to Penetanguishene for the burial and then to Toronto to work..so tonight I'm a bit on the tired side...
Worse thing that happened to me..I would say the burial..so tragic...I think I'll have a family reunion in Aug....we've all had so many funerals and that's all our get togethers so maybe I'll get a theme planned and we'll enjoy each other's company rather than meeting in the funeral home....
What did I learn to day...well, car gave me trouble..second time this week..had hoped it would hold off awhile as I spent all my $$$ on the house...but, just might have to go shopping for a new one...took a ride last week in the SMARTcar and am quite interested..boys say I'm always shopping for wood etc. and it wouldn't meet my needs but..just might make the plunge...they are so CUTE...
I'll post a few photo's to show you what the girls and guys are painting..don't mind me, just want to share their talents...
ok, ok, just one more..the other pictures are of 3 other girls doing same design so I'll not post it...but they have me pumped to paint again so I just took out a blue heron that I cut..dimentional..body and 2 wings..then I make the reeds and cat-tails (6 in total )for added dimention...this piece takes about 40 hrs. of painting because it has hundreds of feathers...so, I'll post each night how far I got..taking it to work..lol....that will entertain me..will look great in my garden..I've made about 5 and guess who doesn't have one...
He's 24" wide x 10" high...
Best thing today: got out of school early, got my mumps, measles and rubella booster shot, grocery shopping, house straightened and trash out front. Whew. Oh, one more thing....bought a ticket to Chicago to go visit Summerkid and go to the upper mid west RU in Madison WI on Sat!!! I am soooo excited!
Worst today: getting up @ 6:30 almost still dark!
Learned: Betty is far more crafty than I will ever be! and high winds will destroy newly transplanted tomatoes.
sure do hope you don't mind my posting the craft photo's..these individuals had never painted before and only in the past few years and many are of the older generation, but the work they do is wonderful..all are amazed at themselves..no wonder I love letting them use my craft room while I'm at work...but then, I came home to a nice spaghetti supper..so that's quite a trade...lol..
I think it's great. I wish I had more time to be creative and I enjoyed seeing their work, thanks for posting the pics.
Tropicanna, you are a sweetheart!
I can't imagine discovering such a fine talent at a "senior" stage of life. I think it's wonderful, and I love looking at their work!
Sharran, so you've a black and white cat too. Me too.
Best thing about today was visiting with my little neighbor/dumpling/sweetheart little girl named Hannah. She's such a doll, and very photogenic. I take a lot of pictures of her. Like this one.
Worst thing was an early morning phone call from my 87 year old mother-in-law who asked if we would come over because her dog died during the night. Long story and I won't share the details, but it was an awkwardly sad morning.
Lesson of the day, well, it's kind of personal and has to do with family relationships so I think I'm better off keeping my feelings to myself. You know how it goes sometimes.
Hi Betty,
I love seeing all your art-so beatifully talented you are. Your Students as well-Thank you for sharing. Don't have a cat but couldn't help notice the tower of claypots you had in the back round of all your wonderful plants. I am trying to figure how you have them attached.
Oh and after looking again you kitty is pretty too.
Best-Today- A lady riding her bike in the rain tried to chain her bike at an ashtray and was told a little more harshly than needed be. She then unchained her bike and was trying hard to find another place-I pointed to the direction of another bike rack, which she hurridly went to. As she was already arounfd the corner I looked down and found her lock! I picked it up walked to where she was just starting to search for it. She thanked me as I walk away. As I was standing there by the ashtray-She was hurring to the train station and gave me the biggest smile and offered me to have a nice day. I in return thanked her and her the same-Then I watched as she caught her train!
Worst-After this mornings exchange...I decided not to worry about it until I know it's for sure-but it's not the end of the world just huge disapointment-that I don't know yet. maybe something will work out.
Learned-A kind act always wins.
Judy
Bettypauze, thank you!
I just found this thread.
Best thing today: Making it through another day; being with my family; finishing some of my graduate assignments; knowing God is with me always
Worst thing today: Father-in-law's cancer is more advanced than we thought; in his lymph nodes in his neck, arms, chest; only a 50% survival rate; my husband doesn't know yet because he is sick in bed and has been asleep all day
Thanks again.
love, julie
Black and white tuxedo cats are the greatest, Nap....love them and their big round eyes.
Best thing: Son took me shopping in his truck, so I was able to get all kinds of much needed things, and baby Ethan helped us put up new lights and mirror in the guest bath. But don't ever let Ethan know I called him baby, cause he's gonna be three in about a month!!! We all had fun.
Worst thing: had to visit the funeral home that took care everything when my husband died in April......they are wonderful people, but I hate everything about the place because it brings it all back. But the good thing, I got everything paid, so don't have that worry hanging over my head.
What I learned: some days are extremely wonderful and extremely sad at the same time.....this was one of them.
Have a good Tuesday, oh and Betty.....I love the painting, keep showing us!
Judy, I saw those planters at the Philadelphia flower show and still regret not buying a set. They are not the same as the stacking planters that remind me of a strawberry planter. That one has up to 6 pots each on top of each other at an angle. Do tell Betty, where can I get one!?
We are talking about the pots in this picture: http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3570428
-Kim
Betty their pieces are beautiful and I am looking forward to updates on your piece. I painted crafts and even sold a few pieces. But there is no way I could of made a living with it. I still do something simple now and then and that takes care of the urge to be creative for a bit.
worse thing yesterday::::a small paver dropped on my foot and I got stormed out in the evening.
Best thing::::we got more rain.
What I learned::::Which I do know but need that reminder once in awhile. How blessed I am with my health and life.
Here is a picture of the fish in their above ground pond without water lettuce yet. We get that cool temp at night sometimes. Maybe today!
Blucat,
The people that "DO" the plants at the HD do this all the time to display some plants.
I believe you put a strong rod (like an re rod) in the first one. making it go through the drain hole into the ground for anchoring. Then they somehow angle the higher pots on additional rods (???). I don't think you can use the same rod, or they all would stand up straight.
T never examined the details.....
Not much help--but an idea...
Gita
hello all,
welcome julie
ves, nice looking fish, wish i could put those in my pond but the racoons would get them for sure!
betty, good job at your plant sale, what a group of artists very nice work they do, how sweet spagetti dinner, betty your truly gifted in friends.
best; boss had to get a tooth pulled she's good now but took the day off, so we played in the a/c all day we turned out that air at 48 whoo hoo
worst: having some stomach issues went to the doctor to find out acid reflex is what i have.
learned:that menopause can cause this acid problem
well off to work all of you have a wonderful day
liz
Bluekat76....
I have directions at home, but for now I'll give you what I can remember doing when I made quite a few for gifts...
Materials:
Copper pipe ...believe it to be 1/2" - two pieces...1 - 12" and 1 - 4 feet
1 ccpper 't'
2 copper ends
3 pieces of copper sheeting 6" high by 10" long
and 1 piece 5"x5"
1. take the 12" pice and 4 foot pipe and solder them in the 't'..the part that comes out
will actually hold the first pot that will be angled...
2. now center this pole in the middle of the 5" x 5" piece of copper piping
3. each of those 3 pieces need to have a bend in the copper about 1" in on the 6" side
this fold will make it easier for you to solder onto the pipe below the 't' and above the
5" plate..it will now look like a windmill or like fins if you like...and this is what holds it stable in the earth in the pot..
4. solder the cap on the 't' section that is open and also on the top...
Now your main unit is finished...
When I did the fins, I got a piece of wood i.e. 4" x 4" to lie the rod across and then held the 1" section to pipe and soldered, then rotated and added the 2nd and then the 3rd...
REALLY is better if you are two of you doing this...
Then you need a large pot for the bottom, and 4 for the top...
Put the copper unit in the pot and fill and secure with earth..I water it so it packs well and really secures the rod...then the first pot sit on the 't' and on an angle..then each pot as you add it angles itself from the pot before it..
Know my directions probably sound very confusion..but if you do 1 step at a time you'll be fine AND I'm always here to help..think each unit cost me about $15.00 or $20.00
thank goodness..thought I had lost my post again...
Morning...
Seedtosser1..sometimes it doesn't take much to make someone elses day and makes you feel like a hero...bet you were walking tall...so sorry you had a disappointment today..but sounds like you are handling it ok...lol...
froggies_girl..Julie welcome to this friendly group...what horrible news to have to give your DH..sure won't help him feel better any time soon...was it the flu DH had today?
Nap..isn't she the cutest thing..how I wish there were little girls in my area..would love to spoil one...keep thinking of joining 'little sisters' but never seem to get there...how tragic for your MIL and of course for you and DH, having to go and help out..not a nice way to start the day!! Was the dog ill for some time?
Sharran..what a wonderful day you've spent with family..and yes, you can both enjoy and feel sad at the same time...but you've done great..focusing on the family...Now you've one less worry...settling with funeral home is now behind you...each time I visit the funeral home in town, I remember my visit downstairs choosing casket and cement casement..yuk/yuk...Roger's cousin works there and he always goes through the funeral..you can believe this or not...had over 120 flower arrangements..ran out of flowers at 3 shops..of course it was New years day sooo they had to be brought in..they put speakers outside for those who could not enter...so he goes on and on and on about it..sure wish he wouldn't...remember Roger came from a family of 11, whose father came from a family of 13 each who had more than 8 children each and then friends/friends and more friends...so quite the funeral! I kept all those floral cards as a reminder of how much he was loved...make it easier somehow..I'm rambling again..to get back on track...am hoping you have yet another sunshine day....
Ves522..you are right in saying you can't make a living in painting..that's for sure..but sure is nice selling some to help support our craft addiction? most of the time, I give it away, would rather treat someone than selling it for less than it cost...i.e. that Blue Heron will take 40 hrs. of painting, now who would purchase it? Not me, but then, I can do it, enjoy seing it in my garden...omg..so painful..you are lucky it didn't break anything..
I still haven't purchased fish because of the commitment I'd have to make looking after them in the winter...but I bet it's so peaceful, sitting watching them...
Liz...sounds like you enjoyed your day at work..any more teeth to come out (lol) maybe she can make further appts. in heatwave weather...enjoy today as well...
Gitagal...you are on the right track with the how to's...I've added my instructions..although it sounds confusing, it's rather easy..just better though when there are 2 of you...
Errr, thanks Betty :)) Remember what I said about me and the tool box?? Just reading your directions has my eyes glazing over. LOL I think I will buy one when I see them again. Maybe Judy would like to give it a try!
Gita - they are all on one rod just leaning back and forth with each pot. If you see one out there give me a holler.
-Kim
tell you what Kim, I'm going to be teaching my niece how to do some so when I do, I'll post you one....
I am indeed home, but much more sore than expected. I cannot seem to get comfortable in any position, and really want to avoid the morphine as long as possible. My 2 day stay in ICU was for some complications they found, and now we are awaiting some biopsies. Meanwhile I have a librium cocktail to take 4 x daily, tapering off one dose a day. I'm not sure what's in it but it sure makes me groggy and nauseous.
My brother went home early this morning. The plan had been that I'd be home from surgery Friday afternoon and we;d have the weekend to visit, but he has tests at the VA hosp. in Gainesville (FL) tomorrow and it took 3 months to get them so he's going to be there.
Don't expect much from me for a while...
Darius.we were all worried about you..especially when we got news you were in ICU..
will you have someone nearby should you need them? Bet your brother hates to leave you but it is difficult getting appts for specialists and I'm sure he'd not want another 3 month wait...
Think you should be back in bed and not overdoing it...trying to do little things add up to one big thing tooooo much..so off you go, we'll be watching and praying for you..get lots of rest..talk later
Well it's getting that time of night ...
Best thing that happened to me is some financial matters got settled...so less stress in my life...
Worse thing...grandsons usually play bingo with me, but their sport games went longer than usual and couldn't come...but, I didn't win on my cards or theirs soooo they didn't loose out!
What did I learn...everyone's lives are getting busier with summer coming on and gardening etc. but I learnt that we have developed into a DG family and we miss you.....
Darius-You just take the time you need-Still keeping you in my thoughts and prayer for a full recovery.
Kim-ya know I just might give that balancing pots a try-it'll have to wait but I am sure I have the stuff I need. Printed the directions, What fun it will add to my needs something space. Plus, I am going to the Madison RU too! Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Betty, Yayah for you! Is'nt it wonderful to have the expenses out of the way? This way we get to decide the next on the list-Hope it a fun one.
Worst -Finding out my DS couldn't make it to the RU which meant me too. (thats really from yesterday)
Best: Didn't give up hope, My good friends offered to take me for the day! Prepared almost everything right on target, feels good...ANNND I am so excited.
Learned-Imagination go along way and it's free. P.S. Betty-yep yesterday helped me get throught the day-I love helping people.
OK, Betty.......just for you:
Best thing.......lots of caring friends to remind me that I am a small part of something big. Thanks.
Worst thing.......my house is a disaster, but only from having an almost 3 year old tornado running through from daylight till dark......and that is not bad at all. What fun!
What I learned........(refer to "best thing....")
It is so so good to hear from Darius again.
Bettypauze, I remember the same feeling in the funeral home when I had to finalize arrangements for my dad. Bless his heart, he had pre-arranged most of it. I only had to do obituary and sign insurance papers. The only time I've been back to the funeral home was to help my mom pre-arrange everything. She got really upset after daddy passed away because she only had $1500 in life insurance. To my surprise, she was listed as my dad's beneficiary on his bank account (even though they had been divorced 10 years), so I told mom that rightfully the money was hers. So, we decided to do her pre-arrangement. Now she doesn't have to worry about it.
Hubby is doing better. Must have been some 24-hour bug. I gave him the news this morning and he was more worried about me.
Best thing about today: children loved bible school and are so excited to go back. They go to every one in our area because they love it. When they get excited about Jesus, my heart just sings.
Worst thing: telling my husband about his dad
What I learned: I have angels watching over me- gardening angels
love to all, julie
well hello,,,,,,
im here and plodding along....
best thing.............. walking in the park with my family and grandkids! awesome...
worst thing... i put on a pound and a half last week!!! all that work and i put on!! grrr
so i have made some adjustments and we will see how we go this week.
what i have learned.............glad to have my family.
wonder - there are some who claim that if you wiehged yourself each and every day it will help you stay more focused on what you eat. me, i weight myself every three days but if i over indulge like at a party then i go a whole week before i weigh in. it seems to work for me.
best thing today is driving up to visit my brother and my SIL. they bought a summer home a few years ago in the windom area (thats where alot of people go skiing )sp)
worst thing - my planting will have to be delayed another day.
gita - glad your posts are not as long as your d-mails.
have a great day everyone.
Worse thing yesterday::::Ran out of garden time and had to go to work.
Best thing::::Got some plants planted.Today I have to run to town before work but have tomorrow off so I can get more planted. I should finally finish up this week!
What I learned::::That I really work better if I make a reasonable list of To Do's. LOL
Hope everybody has a great day and the weather they need.
Vicki
thanks herbie... i really do appreciate your support and understanding.
i go to a support club and we weigh in every week. it seems the dried fruit i had been snacking on thinking it was zero fat was in fact really high in sugar! go figure... grrr
good morning all,
best thing:oh my boss said just put out that shippment!!
we didnt have to check in every little peice
worst: winds are awful here cant spend any time outside, where's summer?
learned: when the doctor says no chilli spices. he means it!
darius hope your feeling better
betty, no, no more teeth that we know of yet lol
have a great day all liz
worst: abdominal surgery hurts like the dickens even if it's just 4 little slots to get the gall bladder out.
best: This too shall pass.
Learned: I need to engineer some sort of bar above my bed to help me get in and out of it with minimal pain.
Hi all, I was oblivious to this thread but now I see what all the scuttle is about.
Darius, hope each day gets better and easier for you. I found that most of the surgeries are the worst misery for the first 3 or 4 days and every day after is more managable. knock on wood.
Ok I learned today that a lot of people reach out if you give them opportunity to.
Worst thing today. I am not good at waiting on test result news.
Best thing is There are always some people that aren`t going to like me for whatever reason, but there are more that do and they are the people to put your energy into because they have invested energy into me too. We are never as alone as we feel sometimes.
Seedtosser1...how's that little one doing now that she's back home..sure hope they are treating her kindly...those pot supports are really EASY to do, am sure your hubby can figure it out..I'll try and post a photo of the unit to show you how it works...just have to see if I can find the material around here....so lucky to be going to a RU..you'll have sooo many stories to share...and wearing that new RU T-shirt your daughter did for you..you'll be the bell of the ball..lol..
Sharran...look at the memories this week has brought you...hope you took a lot of photo's..always nice to bring a smile when feeling blue.
Froggies_girl..how is the family doing..DH feeling a little better..know it will take him some time to get over the news about his Dad..and you, sweetie, not fretting I hope...
Herbie43..get all that planting done today? Can't travel every day...got plant while the sun is shinning ...lol...
Ves522..Vicki, your entire yard must be planted by now...I always find I get more when I challenge myself..just love putting a line through the 'to do' items..lol...but some do get transfered to next weekend's list...that's for sure...thing is, when you start getting behind, that's when you invite those friends over...
Wonder...wonder? wonder? wonder what her children's book is about...couldn't you just type out a few lines so we all can guess????
I'm sooo excited..never knew a writer of books...DO NOT be discouraged by putting on the additional weight..it's not a lot and you learnt where the problem was..you'll lose it and a few pounds more this week..How Leopold and Rylie....hope work has been going better for you and that hubby has the problem with tires solved....
Lizrainey..Liz, what's happening with that boss of yours..sure seems like you are all being buttered up..air conditioning, no checking items?? wow...must like you guys...
Darius...appt. tomorrow and Friday....hmmm...am sure you'll get a good bill of health..although, seems like you are doing a little more than you should...glad you had help today though..let us know how your brother makes out with his medical appt....
Hellnzn11..welcome, we've so many friends on this thread and visitors and maybe a lurker or so...just a nice place to sit, gab about your day..tell us what made you happy today, what did not go well and things you'll bring into tomorrow that you've learnt today...each one of us are trying to support each other, cry and laugh with each other and ALL are trying to make their difference felt in this world..so, you've come to join a wonderful group of individuals....wether it's for a couple of posts or every day, we welcome you and hope we can be friends....
Know you are finding it hard waiting for those results..perhaps you'll have them by tomorrow...and it WILL be good news! And you are correct, we are never alone, unless of course we've chosen to be....even strangers on the street when given a simple 'hello' smile respond to your reaching out......so many people just want to be needed, want to care, want to share, we just have to open our hearts and invite them in...
So everyone...it's now my supper time..will check in with my daily best/worse and what I learnt a little later tonight..wondered where everyone was yesterday but then some kind lady reminded me that as I was off for bed, it was only 6:05 in her neighborhood...told her it was time to relax, have a good night sleep and she thought it was a might to early for bed..lol.lol. the time of the posts show our times not the posters time...now that's what I learnt today..will I get away with that..not....talk later....soooo excited, another new friend on this thread...don't you just love it....
lol that is what I said to you too. I called you a farm lady because I thought you were going to bed at quarter to 7.
I'm really lol because here it's 8:08 and I'm rather tired this evening so I'm going to do my post, get my book and off to bed I go..will certainly feel like a farmer come 4:45 a.m.when the alarm goes off...oooops, neighbor just called, coming over with plants..so guess I'm planting..will do my check in shortly....(I hope)lol
I'm back...
Best thing...getting some painting done on my Blue Heron at work (boss called and won't be in tomorrow..soooo painting again) lol...and of course getting the plants tonight...
Worse thing..omg..Bernice from the Bread and Breakfast just brought me wheelbarrel full of plants...now my kitten 'missy' who's absolutely adorable was running around the yard like a crazy kitten, jumped at her foot, with her claw, clawed Bernice's toe...gash about 1"...bleeding to beat the dickens..had to come in and get first aid kit..cat chasing 'Sailor'dog/cat Riley around the yard..very,very unusual...Bernice helped me check some of the flower beds and there are mega plants of catnip...thought catnip had to be dry to affect cats...but guess not...if it wasn't the catnip then I don't know what got in to her...so embarassed...here she's over doing a kind deed and she gets attacked...hmmmmm...not nice!
What did I learn today...couple of things..of course one who owns cats shouldn't have catnip growing in all her beds....and....Sharran is quite the artist...I'm so very impressed...
