Best Thing/worse thing and what did you learn today????? #4
Best Thing/worse thing and what did you learn today????? #4
101...Remember..friends are just strangers you've not yet met...we've all taken the initiative and we continue to meet such great friends here at DG..Love the photo's of the tomatoe cages..is this a type of hydrophonics ..is that why they are planted in boxes???
Tell your DH he's doing a great job..now that's a lot of tomato plants is it not??? or, do you feed the entire neighborhood...lol
I can imagine why you are praying for warm weather..the conditions your in is prime fire conditions...is there any rain predicted by weatherman for the near future or is it just passing your area...
Re the hurtful thread..no previous post had been made before by this individual - only the 2 recent posts..that's why it was so surprising to see the post...perhaps the individual should have closed the thread and went on to another...I know a couple of my comments shortly after were not very christian like, which isn't like me, however, I get very defensive of people I care about ...I will continue my posts to her via d-mail...
Nap..makes you realize that your friend is as close as a phone call away!! Isn't technology wonderful..get yourself a labtec monitor and you both can gab back and forth... You must really have an allergy to those little critters...girlfriend does the same..has a barret and when she's out and about she attaches a couple of quality fabric softner sheets..she says it works great!
Liz..saved your dollars yet for another day of shopping???
Wonder..good girl..no sense getting yourself all in a tizzy and upset when they see you have wide shoulders and can take it, maybe they will adjust their attitudes...How's Rylie..bet big changes are taking place..No doubt you are gorgeous?? again, be as kind to yourself as you are with your friends...
Herbie43...thanks for joining in..know you will keep us on our toes and entertained..lol
Are you not feeling well...wow 101 lbs. congratulations...glad you are eating healthy foods..maybe you can offer some tips to the rest of us who are so envious...
Tropicana..sorry to hear about your 'old' boyfriends illness..no matter what went down years ago it's still makes you sad!!! That's a positive we all can learn isn't it...that maybe when we are confident in ourselves other see it iin you and can't help but stare and admire..I wouldn't say it was the skirt..unless it was a mini-micro skirt lol...just how you felt about yourself brought on the attention...
Gardengirl..Poor Murphy..what an ordeal for him and your family..what could he have gotten into? We never seem to consider the $$$$ amount when our pets are in need of care...hope all is well today..
Ves522...Glad you had a 'perfect' day yesterday..your rock garden will look great with all the flowers in bloom... I love company but am not a good visitor..always wanting to be doing something..so hope you can enjoy your day visiting and not thinking about the zillion things you could be doing at home...
Talk about eye catching - black hollyhocks and yellow petunias..not sure if I've seen yellow petunias..will have to check them out...hmmm..wouldn't they look lovely in my planter...
Darius..OMG..how terrible for you..is there any kind of supplement that might settle your tummy and keep your energy up...please let us know when you come in today as to how your visit to the surgeon went..we care about you and want you to bet your health back as soon as possible...and you are correct "aren't friends wonderful"...
Good Day to all-
Betty, Thank you, My kids all get along wonderfully with our guest-She is sort of like a big sister to them. Being Julia's BF she has been helping study with homework. Our family life has not changed what so ever other than just adding one very nice young lady. She has been filling out applications at the mini strip malls. A friend of mine also just gave me a great idea -to go to a temp agency! Wish i would have thought of it. So I will ave her check into that. Well, as you know she was to go home last week-the parents took her to dinner only to say they didn't want her back yet. Maybe this thursday. They are calling this "Tough Love" I call it abandonment-I sure can understand how you felt from that other forum because I feel the same over this situation. I can not stop them but I can be there for her and help anyway I can-I have told her that the only thing to do is take one step at a time. They think she is only going to fail-I think she is going to go home with a full time job-money in her pocket and hopefully a happier heart.
Tropicanna-Thank you for your support and suggestion-I checked with her today and when i asked she said she was just about to make the call. so i am keeping my fingers crossed. I think what you do is wonderfull! Social work is not an easy task at all- We had a beautiful SW whom I have sent this girl to-I also suggested maybe going to the school and find out if they can refer her. See part of the problem is she was stripped of everything, no money no car, no phone-I can see that as being the Tough Love not kicking her out of the house. anyway she has to find a councelor at a very low cost free would be better. I can take her to the appt-as long as it is as late in the day as possble-Then we can figure from there how she will get to the others-I think a bus goes in that direction.
Darius-So sorry to hear of your illness-I hope they find out what is and fix it,feel better.
101 and Ves522 I love the tomatoe cages-DH did a beautiful job. And I love the Rock Garden it sure to be a show stopper!
Gardengirl-So sorry to hear about little Murphy. I hope he is feeling better.
Wonder-You are a gem! i have been reading you Whats sparklin...what fun!
Yesterdays Best-DH finished the 3x5 deck for BBQ kitchen-it's beautiful
Worst-Having the very bad feelings for "the Parents"
Learned-Taking the first step is'nt as scarey as I thought- You all are great -I thank you for the welcome.
Judy
Thought I'd share this before I leave the office for the day!
Sorry girls/guys had something beautiful to share but just can't get it..I'll keep trying..

Sorry..guess I can only send it via regular e-mail..it's on the bridges of life..if you would like me to forward it to you, you can d-mail me your e-mail address...won't share it with anyone..promise..did so try to make it work...
Back home from seeing the surgeon, and being at the hosp. all afternoon for pre-op tests... blood work, EKG, chest X-ray, urinalysis. My gall bladder surgery will be Friday, don't have a time yet as he has to change some appointments to get me into surgery. If all goes well, I'll be back home Friday evening. He did say that because of what shows on all the tests from last week, there is a possibility he may have to do a full incision rather than a laparoscopy, and if so, they will keep me.
I'm pooped, and got the upchuckies again, so I need to take a nap.
Darius..so sorry you have to undergo surgery...guess though with feeling as you have been this past while, you'll be pleased to get it over with and be on the mend...you'll be fit as a fiddle for summer....
Will include you in my prayers...off to bed and try to get a good nights rest...
Darius-can't help but stop and think about you, woman. I hope you feel much better very soon, you are certainly one of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure to meet recently. Next time we see you, we'll have lots of goodies! I do wish we were a bit closer.:)
Seedtosser-your friend may be able to get Medicaid, although I'm not sure if she is her own guardian, etc. It (not sure about your state) should cover any counseling, and possibly any additional services she might need. The school should be able to make a referral for counseling for her, but they don't always follow through. If it seems like she is slipping on making the call, it might not hurt to call the counselor's office and ask about sliding scale fees or if there is another way to access the system. I wish I could offer more, but every state does things differently.
Betty-haven't tried the mini-skirt-lol Not quite feeling that cute until I get some sun on these legs-lol!
Todays best: Got a bunch of packages in the mail and did a lot of late evening planting. Nice and peaceful.
Worst: Hard to say-someone I worked with called at 7 am needing something......not exactly when I'm at my best-lol
What I learned: I hate to say it, but I think I'm onto something with this skirt thing-lol! I looked just as cute today as I did yesterday, but no compliments, no opened doors.....
LOL here Tropicanna..maybe you should try opening the doors..have the upper hand...
Best thing that happened to me today was going out with the crew for buffet lunch..then boss left for the day..the girls are trying to con me again so I'll ask Paul if we can work from home Friday...right..pick the old lady to do it..Paul knows she'll cry if he says no....lol..well I won't and I will ask...and nice call from friends who live 200 miles away..they will visit on the 10th of June..it's their wedding anniversary and they want to spend it in the yard here enjoying my company..so nice...
Worse thing that happened to me today..broke out in poison ivy..was itchy this morning but my arms are covered, eye lids/back and stomach are itchy so guess who will look pretty tomorrow with calamine lotion on...
What did I learn..when you decide to shut water off after watering all the plants and drop the hose on the ground while going to shut it off ..you can get wet..oh well, no bath for me tonight..I'm already washed up...
Darius....our prayers and best wishes will be with you on Friday....get this over with so that you can enjoy the sunshine and flowers!! Just think, no more upchucks!!
Tropicanna....dug out my skirts today, you have started a fad!!
Judy.....good for you. I taught school for many years, and know how you feel when you see a child mistreated by parents. Just keep on letting her know that she is great and that you and your family love her.
Best: Cleaned house all day, AND we got much needed rain!!!!! My daylilies lifted their little heads and laughed out loud!
Worst: Nothing bad really, just realized my muscles are too old for all this house cleaning.....or maybe it has just been too long since I used those muscles to clean!
What I learned, can't say really, but I was as happy as the flowers to see the rain!
Whew! I can't keep up with all y'all!!!
Okay, who asked about my tomatoes? Those are EB's (earth boxes) They are extra big self watering pots. You can read about them here.
http://www.earthbox.com/
It makes it soooo nice for gardening. No weeding! LOL
Please excuse me for not speaking to all. Each of you mean so much to me ... but I seem to be brain dead!
Good thing today ... I had 3 extra special Dmails today. :) I just love all my DG friends!
Worse thing ... same ole thing ... no rain! :-(
What I've learned Patience!! Rain will come in God's own time. :)
Rats, 101....I told that rain to come south to you when it left me today...you mean it didn't get there? Must have got stuck in Tennessee!!!
Will try again tomorrow.
Was thinking I could just connect a loooooooong water hose from KY Lake and run it south........surely it would be all downhill, wouldn't it?
Best today - hmmm, that is a tough one - the day is over?
Worst - got about 3 hours of sleep last night and was up @ 5am cause I gave up trying to sleep.
Learned: I am sure there was something....anything....I survived another day.
G'night Gracie.
howdie...
wow herbie! thats cool.....got any good recipes?
gorgeous nah.... but thanks... just keepin positive.
best thing.....hmmmmm the day was pretty good, i was in an area where they just leave you alone and worked with a friend so it was a good day.
worst?.... well, dont have one today now isnt that a change!
what i have learned.... well what i am learning... like the little engine that could, 'I think I can.... I think I can.....
oh yeah and puppies pee a lot!
hello all. like 101 i can't remember names but will try.
darius - hope you feel better
rain - keep mailing those packages ladies. we at the post office like that. LOL
wonder - diet. the most important recipe is called STARVING LOL
best thing happend yesterday. my dw got all the clothes she ordered via the internet.
worst thing - i'm mailing back half of them cause she doesn't like them.
things i've learned today. never take my wife to a place called stew leonards (billed as the worlds largest grocery store) and take my checkbook with me. because i spent over a hundred dollars they gave me a free cup of coffee. somehow i think i got the worse of that exchange. LOL
havea great day.
good morning all,
garden girl, hows murphy doing after his ordeal
101, now those cages make more sence to me than fighting with those crazy metal ones that bend in every direction, im going to make some of those for next season good job.
ves ,thats comming along quite well, did i read you have batchlor buttons?there one of my favorites.
darius, sorry you have to go through all of this, when do they want to operate
herbie, how do you get past the headace to starving lol i've been trying but i always come to that obstacle.
betty, shhhhhhhh have you seen the cement bench at home depot its 49 or 59.99 im trying to figure out how im going to sneak it in and tell dh,he's crazy its been in the yard for years lol, how did you get poison ivy ?oh that stuff is awful take care of yourself,
best, we had good customers all day no crabs or issues make the day run smooth
worst: hot flashes are killing me
learned:there's just some days you sit back and really look at yourself and
your surroundings,i think im lucky in my own personal way.
everyone have a wonderful day liz
Worse thing yesterday::::Was on call for work and got called in early then planned. There went the morning plans.
Best thing:::: We got the truck unloaded and everything put out on shelves or hung up! A done deal!!!!!!!!!!!!
what did I learn:::: not a new one but if there is enough help and everyone works hard the jobe gets done fast!
The morning is just flying! Dishes are half done and a load of wash is almost done. The dog is bored! Was having trouble with DSL. Now it seems to be working.
Darius good luck with the surgery. My mom just had it a couple of weeks ago and is doing fine. Her biggest complaint is that food doesn't taste good after she eats it.
Betty I hope your poison ivy goes away fast. I am highly allergic and break out really bad. I try to be so careful wherever I go. I just noticed some new plants climbing up one of the pine trees.
liz my hotflashes have flared up again but at least they aren't as bad as before. But they have been going on for 6 years. Will they ever stop. I have the Bachelor buttons. I just love them. Will get pictures when they bloom.
Hi Wonder you sound so good and happy! Glad you had a good day at work. That can make anyone feel better. A manager I use to have always said to fake it and you will start feeling that way! Pretend you are feeling happy and upbeat and you will eventually feel like that and carry yourself that way! I so remember puppy days. Mine is going to be 10 months on the first. So glad he is potty trained.
l01 so hoping you get rain where needed in the south. I keep trying to send ours but it is not listening.
Betty the yellow petunias are called yellow madness. I grew them last year and just fell in love with them. I a;so found some yellow morning glory seed. I can hardly wait to see them. I grow Grandpa Otts and love them!
Hi to all! Have a great day and I hope you get the weather you need.
Vicki
Morning everyone...won't look in the mirror today for sure...no one here is paying much attention so I must still be pretty with all of this calamine lotion all over..itching to beat the dickens...keep scratching my eye - hopefully I'll not get it any worse than I have it now..yup, all that sod digging on the weekend but think it's more the dog / cats that run through it and then I pet them..oh well....
Tropicanna...by the sounds of it you do a lot of plant exchanges..nice way to get a variety!!!
Sharran...One of the larges Ontario Lily farms is just up the road from me. Frightened to drop in this year, goodness knows what I'd come home with!!! lol
101..The tomatoe earth box concept is quite fascinating..will have to see about getting some her the house..any new on rain coming your way...hight 80's here today..calling for some showers..tomorrow and weekend much of the same....
Bluekat76..Sorry you are not sleeping well..nothing worse then hearing the clock tick..watching the time and it never seems to move...nights are endless..do you think perhaps you could take something for a little while until you adjust so you can get good night's sleep?
Wonder, I'm impressed with your outlook on life..exercising/fun at work..lol..who would have thunk it.... really, I am so pleased that things seem to be going better for you...
Herbie43...I don't mind putting out the bucks, it's when most of it goes in the cupboards and you open the refrigerator and "NO FOOD"...but then I have a restaurant next door..guess who cooks? NOT..bad luck for the DW...hard to purchase garments by internet - right? manufacturers sizes vary somewhat now don't they...
liz .lol..didn't take you long to learn my most favorite shopping store is "Home Depot" ... will have to check it out..I have a mold for a cement bench..had it poured about a month ago..am going to make designs with my left over stained glass..won't happen tomorrow, but shortly I hope..know about those hot flashes..yuk..I'm hoping that they never return...even when things are at the worse, if you sit, take notice of your surroundings there is so much to be thankful for..should notice at least 3 things each day..soon shows you how very lucky you are....
Darius...you are in our thoughts and prayers..know you'll be busy getting things together before you enter the hospital...please have someone give us news if you can so we don't fret....
Ves522...not sure if I missed something..what were you unloading from the truck? putting on shelves? aren't I nosy...seems like you have a surge of energy..keep up the work..you'll sleep well tonight!! I'm going to a few nurseries this weekend and I'll check to see if they have either (in yellow)...I'm just so excited..Sat. morning is the big plant sale..8 am..I'll be there with bells on..have the area around the pond just sitting saying 'plant me/plant me' lol...
Oh Betty I was at work and it was truck day. When we get in our shipment and restock shelves! It usually takes 2 days!
Ves522..wow that sounds like a lot of manual labor..you must be aching today...
No actually it has taken me about 5 months to get use to it and an Aleve before work helps! LOL
WE'RE MISSING YOU ... HOPE ALL IS WELL!!!!!
Wuvie..Any more 'heart shaped finds?' is your 'yorkie' on meds and feeling better...wonder if you are still shopping for treasures and spending your $$$ wisely (lol)

Slept well last night. Thank goodness those sleepless nights are few and far between. I do take Trazadone at night to help get me to sleep just didn't work Tues night.
Bluekat76..so glad you got a good night's sleep..this is working...I work for my BIL and my only responsibility is answering calls re bankruptcy..I'm great at my job..willing to listen to those in need for however long they need to talk to me...so a call might take 20 minutes or so..when it's booked it takes Paul about 1 1/2 hrs. for consultation and then Suzanne will do bankruptcy and it might take her 6 or more hours do documentation and signing with trustee...then we also do mortgages in office next door...so, I'm the nice lady who makes you feel that we can indeed help you out!! Don't laugh..my office is virtually a craft room..I have my Genesis paint (heat set oil) and a project here/knitting/t.v. - cd player etc. so I entertain myself most of the day....so you guys are a lifesaver entertaining me during the day....lol....
IO1 - Those earthboxes look really handy. Thanks for sharing. I'm now wondering how I can justify getting some.
Bettypauze - Your posts always lift my spirits - and I'm usually pretty happy already.
Best yesterday - I found out that my oldest sister got married - in Vegas. She had been going through a long and messy divorce. I'm glad that she's now able to move on with her new husband - who's a really cool guy.
Worst yesterday - Neither store that I went to for whipping cream had any - and I had a bunch of strawberries and angel food cake that needed it. We made do with Cool Whip and ice cream though so we survived. If that's the worst though, I can't complain.
What I learned - GG's and Quickstop can not be relied on for whipping cream.
Best today - I received some mustard green seeds from my brother. I'm happier about the letter I received with the seeds. He lives in BC and we don't talk that often. I really should keep closer contact with him.
Worst today - I had a terrible sleep, DD2 did not sleep well at all. I think she might be teething because she just hasn't been as happy as normal.
What I learned - Chamomilla homeopathic pills really work for teething babies - I just wish I had clued in last night.
Gillibean so nice to hear from you..great new about your sister...nice to see her settled I bet..Where is Moose Factory-Ontario..would be great if it was closser to ME (lol) funny you should mention strawberries..went to Walmart superstore and bought a large box of them..counting the hours to get up north and spoil myself...my favorite...
If you don't mind my asking, what is mustard green seeds???? and thanks for the hint re Chamomilla homeopathic pills..my niece who is on maternity leave was in the office with her little one and he was teething ..you could just see the pain..so I'll call her tonight and let her know it's something she should have in the house..how do you give the baby pills though or do you crush it and rub it on their gums..can tell I haven't been around babies for a long time...I'M REALLY LAUGHING...something just came to mind..
When Greg and Melanie had their first child it took quite a lot to leave me with Kyle...I had him overnight, kept giving him the bottle, he'd cry, tried again, he'd cry..all night..walked him, sang to him he just wouldn't take the bottle..didn't want to call parents as they'd fret..I cried..omg..what a night..ONLY to find out I had forgotten to take the little white cap that's under the nipple to prevent milk spillage...DAH/DAH and more DAH...too a long time for them to let me care for him again...I'm great with young children, not so with babies as you can see...thought I'd give you a laugh!!
Moose Factory is on the James Bay coast - a 5 hour train ride north of Cochrane. We're not very close to anyone. We usually go down south to visit family in the summer though. I grew up in Bancroft and DH grew up in London. If I'm in your area I would love to stop in for a visit. Come to think of it mustard green seeds are probably just mustard seeds except you pick them before getting too bit. Seeing as this is a gardening site perhaps someone can tell us if I'm wrong about that. I really don't have a clue, I'm quite the novice gardener.
The homeopathic pills are quite tiny and they dissolve really quickly. I just give one or two to her whole and she seems to be okay with them. I'm always amazed at how well they seem to work. After being restless for much of the night and most of the morning I finally gave her two pills and she settled down within minutes.
You must have gone crazy wondering what was wrong that night with the baby. Isn't it always the things that seem so obvious when finally figured out?
Well, we're off to the dump now - getting rid of some junk and hopefully finding a couple tires for planting potatoes.
lia - since i get up very early in the a.m. i usually go to bed around 9 o;clock so i don't have time to cheat much. LOL
Wish I had the stamina to speak to everyone like Betty ... but I just can't do it! LOL Y'all will just have to be satisfied with a big ~ and a {{{ Hug }}} and know you're each special and I love this thread. :)
Betty, I hope your poison ivy will soon be well. I've never had it ... knock on wood. :)
Vicki ... I can not believe your puppy is already 10 months old. That just does not seem possible!
Wonder ... how is that new baby doing? You know we need updates! LOL
Herbie ... now that shopping trip is a small price to pay for all your sweet DW does for you. :) Besides ... haven't you heard the saying ... You make it and we'll spend it. LOL
Gee, that's about the best I can do. :-(
Okay, the best thing ...
I slept in late today.
The worse thing ... I thought it was going to rain. I went outside and actually felt a couple of drops, but it didn't rain after all. :-(
What I've learned ... well, can't think of anything earth shattering except I forgot to hit send and your post won't "post" until you do! LOL
OMG, Betty....your poison ivy reminds me of a time when I was about 10 years old.....loooooong time ago, anyway, some friends and I were going on a picnic. We lived in the mountains of eastern KY/western VA and we wanted to go to a rock cliff for our picnic. I wasn't the most graceful 10 year old and I was the one who fell side ways into a patch of poison ivy.
Got up, went on and we had our picnic.
The next morning Mom came to get me up, she started screaming......I was swollen, totally swollen from the top of my ears to my toes, but only on the right side. My ear was swollen, eye closed, tongue swollen, arm, leg and the side and bottom of my right foot......looked like a onesided troll for about a week. I'll never forget that episode of poison ivy.....couldn't even breathe out of one side of my nose.....it was miserable, horrible, awful!!!! Had to go in for shots every day for a week, but do you know...I never had poison ivy again...never. It was an awful time, but guess it made me immune. I hope that never happens to anyone else, because as ugly as it sounds, believe me, I was even uglier.
Mom had a picture of me from that week......yep, I snitched it one day and tore it to tiny shreds. Never wanted to see that troll ever again.
Funny memory now, but sure wasn't funny at the time.
Will be back later for best/worst......just had to share that nightmare with you.
Thank you Sharran..they would call me LouLou because I'd get it to bad my eyes would be closed shut..back about 15 yrs. ago an elderly indian woman took me on a walk through the bush and showed me a plant...for the life of me I can't remember the name..anyway, it's usually in damp areas, stem grows anywhere from 2 to 4 ft. or so..has a lovely orange/yellow flower and the stem is almost translucent..anyway, you open up the stem, rub the juice onto infected area and next morning no more poison ivy...towards the fall there is little juice left in stems so as my son gets it even worse than me I take the stem/flower etc..little water, boil it and put it in refrigerator..but as I haven't had it for awhile there was no need...I'm off in search of the plant this weekend I'll tell you...want to have bath tonigh but dampness makes it spread so I'll stay stinky for a few more days...lol...now I know you all wanted to hear that...
I'll also be back for my evening posting...
Can't even talk about poison ivy---I start itching!
Best: Overall, a really nice day! One of the people I work with who is normally very 'tough', came over and hugged me when I was leaving today :) It made my day!
Worst: Being the dork that I am, when I was seeing someone I pulled out some papers from my portfolio and some how managed to graze my eye. I can see and all so I don't think it's major, and you can't see anything cut in the eye. But it does hurt. Hoping it will feel better tommorrow.
What I learned: I would probably get hurt a lot less if I would slow down just a wee little bit :)
Elaine..how wonderful...just think what the garden will look like tomorrow...
Tropicanna..maybe you should have the eye checked out...you wouldn't want to leave something like that..perhaps you've done some damage...off you go, get it checked...we want a report back...eyesight is something you don't want to play with...
Told you I was sending it your way, 101......we got a little more today, but only a little, but sure am glad you got a bit. My flowers sure are happy, but my car looks like it has been through mud!
OK, today...Best: was invited to lunch with a friend, had a great time at a new restaurant close by, called Lilly Brock's.....now isn't that a neat name? Another best.......received a copy of a yacht club newsletter today and they had done a memorial for my husband, really lovely words and photo. Made me teary, but it was beautiful. And one more best: my nearly 3 year old grandson will be here in a couple of hours to spend some time with his Nana!!! Yayyyyyyyyyy.
Worst: the pollen and dust on my car mixed with the little bit of rain and looks like yuck!!!! Didn't have enough time to do anything about it today, so will plan that for tomorrow.
What I learned: Large hosta leaves make a great backing for 1 red daylily bloom in a dark red vase.
