Has anyone heard of a "pole plant" or "oriental totem pole plant"? I had one as a child....typically it is sent to you as a log or stick with wax on both ends. You scrape the wax off of one end and put it in water until it roots, then plant in soil. I would like to find another, but I don't know what the real name of the plant is. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Could it be the Hawaiian Ti Tree?

Thank you very much!
You're welcome! I assume that was it? Lots of people grow that. You might ask on the Plant Trading board if anyone has one you could get for trade or postage. If I hadn't recently killed mine, I'd offer you one. LOL Good luck! :o)
Upacreek,
I have two myself. I love them. I purchased mine from QVC online. They are from a Co. called Rebecca Farms I believe. They call them Oriental Totem Pole. I hope you are able to find them.

r8rwoman: I also purchased one from QVC. My question to you is at what point do you remove them from the water and plant them in soil? Mine have been in water for over 4 months but I still do not have roots. The two main stems are rather long, however. Also, what kind of soil have you found to be successful? Inevitably, I always end up killing all of my plants and I DO NOT want this one to pass. Thanks for your advice/expertise!

I waited until my leaves were about 4-5" long, then put in potting soil. The directions that came with mine say:
After leaves begin to sprout, plant the cutting in a 6" pot or larger.
Use a high acid fertilizer once a month.
Use 6" pots with drainage holes to start. Once they're in a 5 gallon bucket/pot they'll grow 4-5 feet high. They stay small in a small pot.
Use regular potting soil the is fast draining; something with perlite & sand premixed with dirt is the best.
Since I put it in dirt, it has been growing bigger and healthier, knock on wood! I recall white bumps and such on the bottom.....
Good luck!

The plant on QVC was from Roberta's. You scrape off the red wax & place in 3" water.
