New blooms today

Cave Creek, AZ

Loren,
Wow, you're from Round Lake Beach? Isn't that near Crystal Lake? We'll be there on June 23, we'll be in Harvard. Small world. Want a seedling?

dbrooks'

When you need 100 pots the black nursery pots are beautiul. If I uses 10 or even 20 may be it would bea different case.

Mickey

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

Mickey: I would love a seeding, but, I'm afraid I will kill it. I am not a weather wise gardener (zone 5a). I still have the Hawaiian mentality...plant and leave em alone..lol. That's why I have Plumeria jewelry they don't dye.

Thanks, Loren

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

I was just looking at the picture of the rainbow plumeria and I can still smell them...To me they were the best smelling of them all.

Hey LeSnow................... taaaaaaake the gift of Mickey's seedling! I'm getting a gift seedling from the Plumeria High Priestess... Clara_CA! You and me can kill them together. Sisterhood! What fun! Please accept Mickey's offer!

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh L!!! If I killed it I would be so sick about it. I don't do well with death of anything....lol...I even buried my fishes when the electricity went out and the pump stopped. I even gave them mouth to mouth. I cried for days, honest. Sure miss them, Rhana, Pinky and Stinky.

Loren

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

L: Check your weather.....just got a weather alert...says we may get hit by some nasty stuff, possiby tornado.

Loren

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

Mickey....is you offer still good? Been thinking and thinking. I haven't seen a real plumeria since I moved from Hawaii. I had one of those plumeria trees in my yard and I just took it for granted and now I just melt when I see one or smell plumeria perfume. If it's okay....you're gonna have to hold my hand thru the growing process.

Loren

Ode to Rhana, Pinky and Stinky for Loren-

Our goldfish were named Frick, Frack, and Jack. Something went wrong one weekend while we were gone and the pumps went off. Needless to say Frick, Frack, and Jack were floating when we came home so we gave them a very prim and proper flush funeral and said prayers as they swirled down to the big fish heaven in the septic field. The kids took it hard.

We replaced Frick, Frack, and Jack (goldfish), with Frick II, Frack II, and Jack II (koi) but Mr. Heron came and ate them right out of my pond in three gulps. There was nothing left of them so we put out nice little mini grave markers to honor their departure.

We decided to try one last time and bought three more koi which were named in honor of their fishy brethren that had passed before them- Frick III, Frack III, and Jack III but our video cameras showed a raccoon getting through our obstacle course to teach her young how to eat so we gave Frick III, Frack III, and Jack III to a "safer" home before they became dietery supplements for Snowblackandbrown and her seven little dwarfs.

That being said, I don't kill tropical plants intentionally and I'm sure you don't either. I say you accept Mickey's offer and let's try to keep them alive! You can do it, just d-mail her and accept her nice seedling! It's not that hard, promise. I know you are all nervous about accepting a gift because you are new but she wouldn't have offered if she wasn't sincere. DO IT and stop dilly dallying around.

Oh, contact Clara_CA and get the overwintering instructions and links to some of the reading she suggests because it was a big help to me.

Have to go back to work now!
Lauren

Oh my, you were typing when I was typing! Way to go Loren!

Hi All,

I put a notice on my main page, but it is hard to read unless you scroll down. I'm going to be taking some time off from the talk forums for a while and won't be able to respond to posts or dmails to give advice. I've already changed all my threads to "Unwatch," and I'm just trying to notify everyone so that people won't expect me to respond to their threads. Here's the notice on my home page:

Announcement 06/06/07: I am retiring from the plant-advice business. I am only able to visit Dave's now on a very limited basis so I won't be able to read all the plumeria threads or dmail in the future. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause, but I want to spend my free time in my garden and in other ways like accomplishing my goals instead of sitting at the computer for hours on end.

I've enjoyed the people of Dave's very much, but the plant-advice business is time-consuming and doesn't pay well! I've written a FAQ's and an article on growing plumerias here at Dave's, and I hope that will help many in their pursuit of growing plumerias.

I will return to Dave's on occasion, as time allows, to post pictures of blooms on the Plumeria Forum, to update the Sticky Thread, and to continue to build PlantFiles. My best to all the people that I've come to know on Dave's over the years.

Clare"

Yuma, AZ

Well Clare thanks for all the good info and have fun gardening! See ya round.

Mickey, 100 cement pots definitely would not be feasible. I meant on the small scale.
Davie

You missed the u in my name little missy!

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

oops...sorry

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Davie;-) I'll see you around. Good luck to you, and I wish you the best with your new nursery.

Fulton, MO

Well, that's kinda sad...

This is beyond sad.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes...this will be a great loss - but true to Clare's unselfish nature we will all have the sticky that she spent so much time on to reference when in doubt. Sad that it had to come to this....I'll leave it at that.

Cave Creek, AZ

patootie,
You are in Arkansas aren't you? Are you far from Mountain Home? We're driving next week to look at a few homes there. Do you have many plumeria?
Mickey

Cave Creek, AZ

Lauren,
I lived for many years in Schaumburg and I had a beautiful plumeria tree for years. They're no problem! I would flower all summer.
Mickey

Round Lake Beach, IL(Zone 5a)

Mickey? is it Loren or Lauren? We live about 10 miles apart.

Cave Creek, AZ

Loren,

LeSnow, sorry I didn't get the spelling right. I use to live in Schaumburg. I live in Arizona now out side of Phoenix up in the foot hills.

Mickey: That looks almost like where I use to live in Hawaii. Up on a hilltop in Kailua, Oahu. It is dry for the Windward side, but, we always had the cool tradewinds off the ocean. The house was surrounded by Plumeria trees and Gardenia bushes. I remember that all the leaves use to fall off during the year, but I can't remember when.

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Sorry you are taking a break Clare but this was expected as you told me in advance awhile ago..
Good luck on the career see you around..
;=)

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Robert. I may pop in on occasion, especially if I see bad info. being given out. I found a few minutes to respond to some threads here on Sunday, but the sun is shining now so I am outta here! See ya!

Cave Creek, AZ

Clare,
I'm very sorry to hear that you are leaving and taking a break. I'm sure the site won't be the same without you.
Mickey

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Mickey. I had some time today and posted on some threads and still got some work done. Sunday may be a good day for me to catch up from time to time. I may check in here and there, but I just won't have the time for long posts -- reading or writing. I'll post some picture threads later this summer after more of my plumies start blooming. Kauka Wilder is blooming now.

Funny, never thought I would see tree envy!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

*cough*
..well since you failed to read the whole thread it was a joke!
I took a pic and edited to make someone laugh..
Now since you called me out allow me to say this...
I have given out and planted 100's of trees and been doing this since i was a kid..
Many on here have gotten big cuttings and hundreds of seeds from me and i am still working a big list for seeds to ship out..
I have ask for nothing and i have contributed to this forum unlike yourself..
I don't need to come here and brag or prove myself to you or anyone..
The 37 years experience was a reference to the thread itself so please read the whole thread..

Plenty of trees i have planted or my dad planted in the 50's and 60's easily dwarf any cali tree..
Now if your going to show me a tree please show me a real tree and not a bunch of twigs!!
17 years and all you have is those twigs?
I live in South Florida i am not used to seeing a plumie so bare!!
I see this forum has gotten thin skin and has lost it's sense of humor on top of that!
;=~

Since you don't know what real trees look like here ya go!
..Clare hold the door open please!

What an amazing plumie. I had no idea they got that big.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ditto dbrooks!!

akakoa - I hope you were teasing and maybe it just came across differently. If not, respectfully, that type of post is what initiates hard feelings - something not welcomed at DG.

Yuma, AZ

Nice tree Iopaka! Is that in your yard? Show us what it looks like when it blooms!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Kathy, is that you? You finally subscribe just when I'm taking a break! LOL! Now, Kathy, Robert, Robert, Kathy. You two be friends. Kathy was clearly just joking, Robert, but it didn't come through, and Robert's post was misunderstood by a few people who thought he was Ken that we were referring to earlier in the thread so it is all just a misunderstanding. We don't attack people here. It is a friendly place so all is well. Robert has a gorgeous yard, and Kathy does too.

Anaheim, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes Clare it's me....Kathy...I was joking as I did really find Lopaka's squirrel pic funny. I did not realize that new folks are not welcomed....Tree envy...not really there are even bigger ones in the hood, I just like seeing and smelling the flowers...Sorry my joking was mistaken for whatever else...This thread was intense...See ya....

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Kathy, we do welcome new folks that join us at the Plumeria Forum when we realize that they are new, but most of the time, we don't know who is new to Dave's without checking their home page. You are most welcome here! Everyone here is so nice, and you will be right at home here. This thread did get intense, and I wish it would die out now, but we normally do not have debates like this. I think everyone is just a little sensitive right now, including me, but that is not the norm here. I hope you will continue to post here. Don't let this little misunderstanding affect your view of Dave's.

Tucson, AZ

hi kathy,

different forum!
same plant!
different people!
same human condition!

it's all good. just a misunderstanding. you never know when someone is having a bad day. just dust yourself off and get back into sandbox. LOL oh yeah, use LOL a lot. haha!

just like the other forums. all are welcome here. take a seat at the table and share your socal and hawai'i growing experiences. i know that i've learned much from you on pals and i'm sure fellow plumeria enthusiasts here can, too.

5 weeks and who knows how many days at this hobby. I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I'm ready to perform brain surgery, defuse a bomb, and grow Plumeria. I may never have Plumeria that are tree size but that's ok.

akakoa! Welcome to DG. You are a sweetie. You're going to fit in real nice around here.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, you guys have convinced me that i never want to try and grow a plumeria......way too complicated.

Tucson, AZ

lou - it's not complicated. we just make it that way sometimes. haha! oh yeah, separate out the human condition and you'll find the harmony of growing sticks and getting beautiful blooms.
